Who wouldn’t be captivated by an eye shadow palette called Mermaids Forever? The palette above celebrates the launch of London’s Makeup Revolution in the USA Mermaids Forever Ultra Eyeshadow Palette ($15.00). 32 highly pigmented colors dazzle with blue, green and beyond. Beauty Tip #1: Here’s how to create a “mermaid” look: 1. Line your inner eye with a blue liner; 2. Apply a neutral tone on the brow bone blending the color to the end of your brow line. More highlight? Use a light shimmer applied in a thin line directly under the tail of your brow, 3. Apply one of the sea green tones over the entire lid and blend using circular motions to above the crease line; 4. Apply a thin layer of the same tone as in step #5 and line the lower lid, 5. In the crease area, apply a soft stroke of cobalt blue for contrast and definition, 6. Finish the Mermaid Eye with black liner on the upper lid, followed by mascara. For an added pop of color select from one the ultra-pigmented shades from the Mermaids Forever Ultra Eye shadow palette (e.g. cobalt blue or copper) to line the eyes.
This BellaPierre Lip Contour & Highlighting Kit ($74.99) was one of the products the Advice Sisters received at the most recent BeautyPress event containing five must have items to make lips look perfect: two pencils, a gel lip primer “Natural” (dark beige) and an ivory highlighter pencil, plus a light flesh-colored lip make-up base, and (in our kit–there are four different ones) a browned rose lipstick called “Envy.” There are also directions on the box, but I’m including them here: 1. Prime your lips with the lip primer to ensure a soft and smooth base; 2. add a bit of the lip highlight right above your cupids bow to enhance the v-shape; 3. Line your lips with the lip contour pencil to your desired shape and add two horizontal lines on the top lip and three lines on the bottom lip to create depth and dimension (this takes practice); finally, apply lipstick straight from the tube or with a brush for a more flawless application. Noteworthy is that Bella Pierre is made with 100% minerals and for those who tend to “eat” lipstick off their lips, we’re happy to see that the Bellapierre Mineral Lipsticks are formulated with natural waxes and mineral pigments, iron oxides and antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E. The mineral pigments also provide natural protection from the sun. Mineral Lipsticks do NOT contain lead, lanolin, parabens, or other harmful ingredients. One of my personal favorite brands is Smashbox. Crafted for photo shoots in a studio, these products always deliver high performance as well as great color and style. New and quite impressive is the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water SPF 30 ($42.00). The first thing to note about this is that it has a unique, dropper top which gives you just the right amount for your face, without ever having to stick your hands in a jar or bottle thereby immediately contaminating it. But the product with SPF 30 (5% Octinoxate, 3.1% Titaniumn Dioxide, and 2.1 % Tatanium Dioxide) offers sheer to medium, natural and build-able coverage in a matte BB Cream with a water-like texture. Some BB creams give you a sticky feeling, but this one feels like you’re wearing nothing at all. It blurs small imperfections while it protects you skin from the sun. The reason it’s called BB Water is that is has elements of Primer Water in it (the technology gives the BB Cream a silky consistency that blends easily and “moves” as your face moves). It is also oil & alcohol free . The key here is to select the right color. We judged the colors from online swatches and selected Light Neutral and Fair/Light. The Fair/Light looked medium light but even as a sheer BB cream it was too lite for our skin. The Light Neutral was a better choice. The best way to try any foundation is on on your face, not from a color swatch! To get this fabulous BB visit the Smashbox web site, or Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom and select Macy’s stores.
FACE Stockholm makes many mascaras, but we really like this Volumizing Water Resistant Mascara ($32.00). It is high end, but if your lashes are less than lush, consider that this one has the pampering benefits of Vitamin E, Panthenol, Bamboo and Olive and Rice waxes . The water-resistant formula shapes and separates lashes to increase the appearance of length and volume. The slim wand and tapered elastic brush have a design touted as not just unique but the easy way to get maximum definition and to coat even those most resistant lashes. There will be no smudging or flaking from this one, and you can even sweat or cry with looking like a ghoul!. Beauty Tip: No matter what mascara you use, an eyelash curler will help make your eyes look bigger and your mascara, even better. Try this FACE Stockholm eyelash curler in a classic shape with comfortable, rubber linings and coated handle grips for control and comfort. If you use the eyelash curler daily, the rubber will wear down in about 3 months but no worries! You can a replacement, too. This nicely boxed curler makes a good stocking stuffer too at just $16.00. For more information and to order go to your favorite FACE Stockholm boutique, or order it online on the FACE Stockholm website.

Phuse Beauty makes all sorts of interesting and excellent skin care, hair tools and other products (see our search box at the right hand top of this page to check out those reviews), but they also offer 6 different makeup brushes. We tried two of them “Sweep that Crease” crease brush and “Double Duty” eyebrow & Lash Comb brush. These brushes come nicely boxed in black and sea green and the brushes have synthetic bristles. Sweep That Crease does a great job on lids or for eye shadow contouring. Duty Duty is your classic brow comb and brush. Both have rounded handles that are easy to grip. If you are interested in purchasing these brushes, Phuse Beauty is sold through shopping parties or online . If you want to buy Phuse Beauty products you must Visit the Phuse Beauty Website and sign up as a customer (to get the prices). You can also opt to attend or host a Phuse Beauty party or give one, yourself
Skinn by Dimitri James has won our hearts constantly, with makeup that is high performance and user-friendly, plus it’s full of anti-aging and other skin loving benefits. This first-ever Plasma Fusion Full Coverage Foundation ($32.00) stick is water-resistant and provides full coverage, but it’s easily blended and surprisingly lightweight. The core has skin loving bennies such as Vitamin C for brightening, Hyaluronic Acid for maximum hydration, a Peptide blend for anti-aging effects, as well as Grape Seed, Argan and Rosehip Oils for antioxidant and skin conditioning benefits. We like the portable, swivel up stick formula which is great for purse and travel. The only thing you need to know is that the color names can be confusing: (e.g. “Fair” is lighter than “Light”). Once you find the right color you’ll be in foundation heaven with a flawless look that lasts and doesn’t get “greasy.”
Do you eyelids need a setting powder or primer? Yes, they do! Skinn by Dimitri James’ Plasma Fusion Eyeshadow Primer & Setting Veil ($22.00) offers your skin antioxidant-rich Grape Seed Oil, energizing Ginseng Extract, and Vitamins A, C, and E and it primes your eyelids for longer wear and to blend out freckles and other imperfections and the powder is used over your shadow colors to help them last longer. The travel-friendly two-part compact will help you “set it, and forget it!” For more information on the great Skinn by Dimitri James Products, Visit the SKINN Web Site
From Rimmel London we’re suggesting these budget worthy dual ended Provocalips 16 Hour Lip Colors (Srp. $6.99). Provocalips has as it’s muse, Georgia May Jagger. You can’t help but notice that her amazing lips were inherited from her Daddy, Mick Jagger. You might not create lips quite as lush, but you can certainly color them with intense tones from nude to red, and keep the look going all day long without having to re-apply. We love long lasting lip colors like this, but many of them are very drying. This one isn’t, and it looks moistly matte thanks to the wanded tube of clear moisturizer you apply after your lip color has set (about 60 seconds). There are very intense colors (we tried “Little Minx” a hot pink) which makes the longwear even more essential (no movement into lip lines). If you like nude but they make your lips too pale, the longwear formula means you can play with lip gloss over the colors.
For those who love intense color that’s matte and made to last, try Rimmel’s Show off Lip Velvet (Srp. $5.99) . There are 5 colors that are moisturizing but also last up to 8 hours, giving you a matte finish and wildly intense color. We tried Orangle-Ology which is a seriously bright orange, but tempting for Fall into Winter to brighten pale faces with drama. Apollo is the lightest: a soft nude pink that has enough color to softly glamorize lips.
Rimmel London is available in mass market retailers and for more information visit the Rimmel London Web Site.
Butter London has a bunch of lovely lip colors and an eye palette to covet. The Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon ($20.00) follows the trend for intense color and shine. The pencil has a built-in sharpener on one end of the pencil, and the other side has creamy, opaque color coverage with lots of shine. The pencil is so perfectly portable! Even better, these lip crayons enhanced with Mango Seed Oil and Marula Oil to keep lips soft, antioxidant protection and Niacinamide, which helps to maintain the skin barrier for smoother, more even lip tone. There are eight colors, almost all bright and bold (we loved Ladybird, a bright, warm, tomato red). For those who need the nude look, try the opaque light nude called “Tea With the Queen.”
Butter London’s Pretty Proper Shadowclutch ($39.00) is pretty spectacular. You’ll find 6 eye shadows in shimmer and matte, that are not just pretty, but they are infused with primer, and they’re oil absorbing, skin-balancing shadow/ the black compact/clutch has a textured top and interior mirror, plus a nice, dual-ended brush for applying and blending shadow, effortlessly. The colors range from Chantilly Lace – Matte Soft Pink to Velvet- Deep Espresso Sheen. In-between tones are: Suede – Matte Stone Grey, Brocade – Cool Charcoal Sheen, Cashmere – Matte Cool Nude, and Satin – Cool Rose Gold Shimmer. Finish off your eye look with Iconoclast Mega Volume Lacquer Mascara ($20.00). The little ball at the top of the wand really coats every single lash, even those really tiny ones, better than any mascara I have tried so far.Patent Shine Fusion Polymers give your lashes shine and color, and the cconditioning formula thickens and separates very well. There appears to be more c color and length than thickening if you use just one coat, but add a few coats and you’ll get the look you want. Impressive and in one color “Brilliant Black.” Check out all the amazing beauty products offered by Butter London on their web site
Maybelline makes the most popular mascaras in the entire world, and I always look forward to hearing about a new one in a line of mascaras that never fail to excite me. I reviewed the original The Falsies mascara in 2010. The newest is Maybelline New York The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara ($9.49) which just launched. What’s particularly exciting about this one is the claim that you can get lashes that look like thick, lush falsies without the bother of having to apply them. The hot, pink metallic packaging gives you a hint that drama is going to unfold. A “push up cup” brush actually lifts your lashes and keeps them there. In all honesty, I have very thin, light lashes and I needed more than one coat, so while my lashes didn’t plump up as dramatically as the model’s in the Maybelline New York video, after a few coats, when I looked in the mirror I definitely saw seriously enhanced lashes. Now I’m reaching for this mascara above others! Get Maybelline products in drugstores and mass market retailers nationwide, and for more information visit the Maybelline New York Web Site.
Recently we reviewed Clarins fabulous Jolie Rouge Lipstick ($27.00) in a roundup of red and berry lip colors, but we saved one for this feature. The Jolie Rouge lipcolor in “Orange Fizz” is a Fall-perfect favorite. It looks bright orange in the tube, but the color of your lips will make it more apricot, and a great alternative to red when you’re looking for something bold (but not clown-ish) . There is a “Maxi Lip Complex” in the lipstick that helps plump and hydrate your lips with Vitamin A and C and mango oil, plus a bunch of other skin loving benefits plus color that will last up to 6 hours. Get yours at your favorite Clarins makeup counter or on clarins.com
Cleaning up! Makeup removers run the gamut from feeble to fabulous and everyone has an opinion about which one is best. My newest favorite, as someone who has sensitive skin, is the Derma E Natural Bodycare Eyebright Eye Makeup Remover – 4 fl oz ($12.95 4 fl. oz.) starriong soothing cucumber and chamomile that cleans off all sorts of makeup (even the long lasting variety) without stinging or irritating and without leaving a greasy film. derma|Eyebright extract shields skin from irritation and bilberry extract and green tea work to protect. Good to know is that derma|e uses non-GMO ingredients from all over the world from ethically-minded sources and the products are cruelty-free and 100% vegan. The company uses recyclable packaging and even has a wind powered production process. Green! This product is fragrance, oil, paraben, sulfate, mineral oil, lanolin-free, gluten and GMO-free. You might not think that it would work, but I tried it with really hard to remove foundation and longwear lipsticks, and it worked very well. You might have to use a few cotton pads soaked with the clear liquid if your wear very heavy longwear makeup, but your makeup will come off and best of all, not irritate your eyes and skin. If you’ve ever used an eye makeup remover that left a film on your eyes (especially if you wear contacts) you will be happy to know that even with lots of mascara, you won’t suffer because derma|e is gentle and pleasant. Beauty Tip: To remove makeup more easily, hold the pad over the eye area for 15-30 seconds before wiping away, then rinse your face with warm water. For more information visit the derma|e website.
