Is it embarrassing to admit that I am kind of crushing on is from Redken?
Well, call me crazy then, because frizz is really my enemy and if there’s anything I can do about it, and it works, I’m a fan!
Redken’s new Frizz Dismiss Haircare collection offers a whopping seven new ways to ditch frizz with products that are safe for colored and chemically straightened hair and that doesn’t have any sulfates or sodium chloride. In fact, this collection isn’t even one size fits all, it is based on something called FPF or a “Frizz Protection Factor” scale that measures your hair type and the humidity level so you can select the right products. Imagine having up to 82% less frizz after just one use of Frizz Dismiss (Sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner $18.50 10.1 oz for the shampoo, $19.50 8.5 oz. for the conditioner and there’s a Frizz Dismiss Mask ($20.50 9.5 oz.) It is possible according to Rodney Cutler, Redken’s Brand Ambassador and Owner of the Cutler/Redken Salons in New York (I go to the one on 57th Street) who explained the collection to editors at the launch at a really fun restaurant/bar called ‘The happiest Hour.”
As someone whose hair frizzes up if someone cries nearby, I was really psyched about these products. The star ingredient is a Humidity Resist Complex, which comes from Redken’s labs in Brazil. Without going into too much tech-speak, this contains a combination of “Aquatoril” which is a molecule that repels humidity and locks in moisture, and another Brazilian wonder products: Brazilian Pracaxi Oil, which helps to smooth, nourish and strengthen hair and yes, help banish the frizz.
The product line-up is impressive. Some products that are good for everyone include the sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, plus a smoothing and nourishing mask. And my fave product is something truly novel that no one with frizz is every going to want to be without: the FPF 10 Fly-Away Fix ($25.00/50 sheets) These are “finishing paper sheets” that work for all hair types in all humidity levels to get rid of static and fly-aways on dry hair any time of day or night. Essentially they look like dryer sheets, or like very large sheets of oil-absorbing beauty papers. But have you ever been out somewhere and looked in the mirror and realized your hair is just all over the place, or you sensed your hair was just getting “bigger” by the second? Take one of these oil infused/enriched sheets from the lightweight cardboard package, swipe it over your hair, and presto-change-o your hair starts to go back to normal again! It’s genius!
The rest of the collection depends upon your hair types (fine, medium, or coarse) and the humidity level (low, medium or high). There is FPF 20 Smooth Force ($22.00 5 oz.) , a lightweight smoothing lotion for fine/medium hair in low to high humidity. The leave-in spray detangles, and helps protect against heat stylers while offering frizz contgrol. FPF 30 Instant Deflate ($22.00 4.2 oz.) is a leave-in smoothing oil serum in a pump for medium/coarse hair in low to high humidity. This products smooths the hair cuticle and adds shine while protecting against heat stylers and of course, de-flating frizzies. you can use this on damp hair or on dry hair as a finisher. For those with coarse hair in medium to high humidity there is a “bigger gun” in FPF 40 Rebel Tame ($22.00 8.5 oz). This product is a leave-in smooth cream in a tube that packs a punch against frizz on unruly hair that would otherwise have no luck against frizz and humidity. With this product you will get heat protection, but you are urged to use it with a blow dryer for the best result.
They key to success with these products is to find the ones that suit your particular frizz issues, the best. Ask your stylist, or consult the chart. Don’t think that because your hair tends to frizz a bit that the Rebel Tame, for example, will be your best bet. You may find that it just is “too much” and the one that helps your hair look and feel its best is one of the other products. I liked FPF 20 and FPF 30 but planned to wash my hair more quickly when I used the product with the higher number. The shampoo and conditioner and the masque are lovely….new favorites.
