Men (and boys) love gifts, but they get tired of the same old books, ties and socks, so shake things up a bit! Sometimes the best gift is the one you wouldn’t buy for yourself. These goodies for guys are pampering, perfect gift ideas to suit every budget and probably items they are waiting for you to buy them!
Babor makes lovely, high end skincare and makeup for the ladies, but they have a lovely line for men, as well. And topping the list of holiday gift ideas for the guys is Babor for Men Eau de Toilette Natural Spray $64.00 3 3/8 fl/ oz This light, refreshing fragrance has a unmistakeable, masculine scent, with a citrus-y top with fresh bergamont and lemon notes, a spicy heart blended with woody accords and musk. It is clean and pleasing and not overwhelming. If you are a young man, it will feel modern and sexy, and for the more mature man it is still appropriate and significant. The Bronze metallic box is square and impressive looking, and the fragrance bottle looks surprisingly like a frosted jar of face cream. In fact, that is what you would think is is, until you pull off the top and realize that there is a spray diffuser! I personally didn’t think much of the bottle, but guys will probably love the strong, simple and masculine look of this fragrance flacon. There isn’t much written about Babor for Men, but you can find more about all the Babor for Men products at: http://www.babor.com/category/BABOR_for_Men.html
Francisco “Paco” Rabaneda Cuervo, more commonly known as Paco Rabanne, is a Franco-Spanish fashion designer known for many things, including being the creative behind costume designs for such films as Barbarella. He is now a senior statesman in the fashion industry but his designs, and fragrance, continue to be an influence on fashionistas both male and female. One of the more extravagant, especially in packaging, is 1 Million and Lady Million (reviewed in another advicesisters.net post on December 6th), his latest, inspired by the eternal glamour of gold and diamonds in blends and bottles that are extravagant, and striking. From couture to prêt-à-porter, accessories to perfumes, Rabanne has never stopped innovating. “Design is not about seduction; it’s about shock.” —Paco Rabanne. If you are seeking a special and extravagant, but still reasonably affordable gift for a man this season, the Paco Rabanne Gold Fever 1 Million Gift Set ($75.00) is sure to be a rich choice (sorry, pun intended). But seriously, the gold ingot packaging (designed by famous industrial designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance), will entice any man who seeks to improve his fortune be it in life, love or career. Who wouldn’t want to hold a gold bar in his hand?! The nicely boxed gift set contains a gold ingot key chain that he will definitely want to use, and the now iconic, gold bar flacon filled with – 3.4 oz Eau de Toilette Spray of 1 million fragrance. The scent is unusual, and it smells expensive. The overall feeling is spicy, but not in a grandpa’s cologne sort of way. It is light-ish, modern, sexy with a hint of spice and of leather. The actual notes are: Frosted Grapefruit, Blood Mandarin, Peppermint, Rose Absolute, Musk, Cinnamon Bark, Blond Leather, Tonka Bean, Patchouli, White Wood, Amber Ketal. You initially smell the Tonka bean and fruit, but then the florals, woods and patchouli come together as with the last, resounding notes of a powerful symphony, to produce something not quite as definable, but lasting in both memory and on the skin. For those with less expansive budgets, or to give a special gift for a road warrior, the The Paco Rabanne 1 Million Travel Spray $36.00 offers a 0.68 oz Eau de Toilette Spray in the gorgeous, gold ingot case, but you can pull out a glass flacon to take with you “on the road” or to the gym, etc. You can find Paco Rabanne and 1 Million in a number of places, includingSephora, and Macy’s, among others.
Strapped for cash and perhaps, shopping at the last minute. My final suggestions seems to good to be true, but is isn’t! Put some swagger in a man’s step, and do it for under $9.00. Yes, truly. You don’t need a miracle, you just need an Old Spice Gift set. There are three that can be had for an SRP. of just $8.99. Choose Old Spice Fresh Collection’s Fiji Scent that is fresh and slightly not overly, fruity, Old Spice High Endurance Sport Scent (clean, crisp and sporty) and my favorite, Old Spice Red Zone’s Swagger Scent (manly and sexy, full of promise)! There are several different sets. The one the Advice Sisters male reviewer tried was the Swagger set including: Old Spice Red Zone Swagger Body Wash (12 oz); Old Spice Red Zone Swagger Deodorant (3.25 oz); Old Spice Red Zone Swagger Body Spray (4 oz); Plus as an added bonus — trial size versions of Old Spice Fresh Collections Body Wash and Deodorant. While our guy wasn’t sure about the Body Spray, he loved the deodorant and body wash and was curious about the other items. Swagger was the type of scent “I can understand, and it smells manly” he said. He immediately grabbed the travel sizes exclaiming: “these are perfect for my next business trip.” Yes, Old Spice has hit a home run with these easy to wear, easy on the budget, scents for guys. Why make him use your body sprays, washes and deodorants? These are all just for men, with bold packaging and scents guys like. If you are a woman, you probably won’t want to borrow his Old Spice fragrance items, but you will want to smell them on him! Need another idea for a stocking stuffer? The gifts are nicely boxed and will give him a bit of affordable pampering. Old Spice’s holiday gift sets, available at Walmart, Target, Drugstore.com and other mass market retailers nationwide.
Men love the energizing smell of spicy ginger, and the uplifiting feeling they get from the scent of citrus. Put them together in bath and body products, and you’ve got a winning combination! Although the Arbonne Ginger Citrus bath and body products were NOT specifically for men, I believe that Arbonne’s Ginger Citrus Luxury Gift Set ($70.00) will make luxury bath & body product converts out of even the most reticent male, so I am including it in this “goodies for guys” review. Women, of course, will love it too. The nicely boxed (in cheerful lime and white with orange accent) trio is an $82.00 value, and includes nicely-sized products in simple bottles and tubs, with cheerful, citrus-colored labels that are attractive but also very unisex. The Ginger Citrus Body Wash, 12 fl. oz. arrives in a clear, plastic bottle with a screw cap and inner seal, but also with a pump top for one-handed application in the bath or shower. The scent is very light, just a bit zesty and nothing too heavy or sweet — just great for guys to share with their special ladies. There is also a generously-sized, 16 oz tub of Ginger Citrus Sugar Scrub, 16 oz. The scrub is gritty enough to slough off even the most stubborn, dry, deal, Winter-weary skin, but the soothing oils and citrus-y scent will make exfoliation, a pleasure instead of a pain. It might even get your special guy to take better care of his skin, more often *note: mine arrived in the gift box with an outer plastic seal and an inner seal, but the oil did leak out a bit (perhaps in transit). Be careful when closing the jar so all that emollient goodness stays put! Finally, there is a very moisturizing, Ginger Citrus Body Butter 12 oz. also lightly scented with the ginger citrus scent. If he’s not into slathering it onto his body so much, you can always suggest he slather it onto yours! But I’m willing to bet that once he feels softer and less irritated skin along with that ginger citrus scent, he will use up the tub, and go out to get another on his own! Visit the Arbonne website or contact an Arbonne representative.
Some men already know that skincare is vitally important, but others? Well…they need a little push in the right direction. Affordable but highly effective skincare that every man, young or old, can embrace, is the simple to understand, simple to use, multi-tasking Triple Protect Face Lotion SPF 20 from Neutrogena srp. under $6.00 for 1. fl. oz. It arrives in a striking, grey box with purple-ish blue, red and white accents. Inside, a “Greige” tube with the same accents holds a multi-tasking sun protection lotion that heals dry skin. soothes razor burn, and helps defend against the signs of aging — all in one easy application! All he has to do (other than remove the cap, is apply the gel to his face and neck after shaving, or when he feels that his skin needs moisture. While the razor burn soothing and moisturization is great, it’s the broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 20 sun protection that might ultimately help him keep his boyish, good skin!It won’t sting or clog your pores. Our guys liked the light and pleasant scent, too. You can get Neutrogena for Men products in your favorite mass market drug and retailers, and on many online retailers as well.
Curtis Jackson (aka.”50 Cent”) has followed in the footsteps of other rappers like Diddy, and has created fragrance for men, in cooperation with Lighthouse Marketing Beauty, called Power by 50 Cent. Unlike a lot of celebrities who just put their names on things without any real input, Curtis himself participated in design. The nose behind the fragrance is Harry Fremont. The masculine but modern fragrance is definitely fierce, and not just for “youngsters.” The notes include accords of lemon leaves, black pepper and artemisia, a heart of dark wood, coriander and nutmeg and base notes including patchouli, musk and oak moss. You can’t help but admire the bottle. It’s dark glass and has a very unique, silver, metal stopper inspired by design of 50 Cent’s favorite Audemars Piguet and Hublot watches. To me, the top looks like part of a spaceship! While 50 cent’s watches cost many Benjamins (hardly fifty cents), and they may be out of your reach, the Power fragrance is fairly affordable with a two piece gift set with 3.4 fl. oz. Eau de Toilette and After Shave, at an srp. of $68.50. I believe the set is sold out at Macy’s but I did see it online.
