You can have the happiest healthiest hair in the world (and you will if you read yesterday’s post – part I of Hair Helpers), but if you don’t style it, it looks like you don’t care. Guido, one of my favorite stylists who works with models and fashion designers around the world, Says if you don’t want to fuss with your hair, at least make a little effort. Hair that looks good requires some care, and styling tools and products to make the job easier. There are products that really do improve the look of your hair, although not everyone needs exactly the same products. Part I was about shampoos and conditioners. Part II is about styling products, hair accessories and tools to make your job of styling, easier and more effective. The Advice Sisters tried every single product sent to us for consideration, and we’ve picked the best of the best for Fall 2015, no matter what your style is!

Heat styling tools are an investment, but they make all the difference in how your hair looks. Flat Irons can make even the most unruly hair look sleeker and shinier (use heat protecting products before you use a heat tool). One that’s been on the market less than a year, but is quickly winning rave reviews and a lot of fans, is the 6th Sense Professional Flat Iron Hair Straightener w/FREE 2-in-1 Mini Iron & Heat Resistant Case (Approx $114.00) . This heat styler (it’s a flat iron with curved edges) has 1′ floating tourmaline ceramic plates. By now you probably understand the benefits of Tourmaline and ceramic technology, but just in case you missed it: When tourmaline is heated, it emits negative ions to neutralize the presence of positive ions commonly found on damaged or dry hair and as a result, you get shinier, smoother smoother hair without frying it to a dry straw. You can also pass it through your hair less often (causing less heat damage) because it is more effective than old fashioned flat irons. While you can’t see it, this 6th Sense Flat Iron takes crushed tourmaline and infuses it into the ceramic plates.
This particular flat iron comes with two bonuses: a fabulous heat resistant case (a must have especially when you travel or you want to keep a hot tool away from pets and “little curious hands”) and a mini flat irons (for bangs and small areas). Our review sample didn’t contain the bonus mini flat, be we did appreciate the heat resistant case. The flat iron has plenty of thoughtful details. There is a locking mechanism on the unit. The on/off button took me a minute to find, but one click turns it on, hold for 2 seconds and it’s off. An easy to understand + and – turns the temperature up and down. There is a big and easy to read digital temperature read-out and something I think is very nice: a strip with LED indicator lights (red/blue/green) on the top of the tool, so you know exactly when it’s ready (about 40 seconds). The unit also comes with a 4-year warranty (a hologram ID sticker has the unique serial number of our tool, for warranty registration and authentification). I found the iron to be a pleasure to use, and my hair felt shiny while my frizz was conquered. The curved edges can help you make a bit of a wave, but practice with it, because I ended up with some “crimps” until I got the feel of the styler. The company claims to bring “hair happiness” — nicely done! To learn more visit www.sixsst.com
everyone needs a brush, whether it is for wet styling, with a blow dryer, or a flat iron or curling iron. I personally love Cricket products, and now they’ve come out with an innovative collection of styling brushes that use the heat of your dryer to help style your hair more efficiently. The Heat Boss Brush collection is a series of round stylers ( 1.5″, 1.75″ and 2.0″) which use ceramic and tourmaline bristles infused with ionic technology that help keep frizz down and can be heated up to 570 degrees Fahrenheit. But the real star of these brushes is the Heat Force Dial at the top of the barrel, that opens and closes to lock heat into the barreel for styling or release it out with a twist to cool it down.It takes a bit of getting used to, but the results is shinier, smoother hair with the bounce you crave. I tried the 1.75″ dial and got sleek waves and it was easier than I thought! Beauty Tip: thick/coarse hair (open heat force dial on high heat point dryer nozzle down the barrel, then close the dial; Medium to Thick heat (keep the heat force dial closed) , Fine hair, keep the heat force dial open, The price goes up as the size increases: $21.50 for the 1.5″, $23.50 and $24.95 respectively.
Designed for stylists, the Cricket Ultra Smooth Cutting Comb ($6.00) is enriched with argan and olive oils plus keratin protein. While it was specifically designed to help stylists keep control or hair during a haircut it is also a good finishing comb for home users, as it glides through your hair and helps add shine and smoothness while reducing frizz (it wont’ leave a residue on your hands) . We’ve reviewed a lot of great Conair products in the past (just put “Conair” into our search box) . For heat styling we have previously reviewed the, infiniti Pro by Conair™ 1875-Watt Salon-Performance AC Motor Styling Tool and the Infiniti Pro by Conair 3Q . However, Conair has lots of othre hair products as well, including several unique hair brushes. One I really like is the Conair Infiniti Pro Finishing Brush (approx. $6.50) that has both ball headed nylon bristles on the outside of the paddle brush, and natural boars bristles in the middle. But at the very middle is a pink strip with a plastic cover on it. That’s the key to this brush. It’s the replaceable Argan oil treatment strip that smooths and adds maximum conditioning. It comes with a purple, pink or turquoise handle. This is not a styling brush, it’s a finishing brush that will smooth down even the most resistant frizz.
Conair’s Dry Shampoo brush (approx. $6.50) is another specialty brush that you might not have thought about, but once you try it, you realize you really need it. It also comes with a pink, purple or turquoise handle. This brush also has nylon all tipped bristles on the outside, boars hair bristles in the middle of the brush that really help to distribute dry shampoo your hair while getting rid of the oil and residue. The brush’s outer nylon bristles add lift to maximize volume. use it with any brand of dry shampoo and suddenly, dry shampoo is going to be taken up a notch. You can find Conair products online and in drugstores and mass market retailers. Learn more on the Conair Website.
Wella is known for salon products, but now they’ve launched another haircare styling line: Wella “EIMI.” EIMI offers a wide range of choices for styling and three different levels of hold. As you can see, there are a lot of different products, each with a specific hair issue focus. What’s nice about these pro-style products is that they are not very pricey. For example, I liked the Root Shoot Precise Root Mousse that gives your hair a lift just where you need it. Ditto the Dry Me Dry Shampoo that did a good job of freshening up limp hair that had gone at least one day too long without cleansing. The Sugar Lift Sugar Spray For Voluminous Texture boots body and texture, and Perfect Me Lightweight BB Lotion did a nice job of moisturizing while adding some shine and protecting hair from heat damage (without suffering limp hair less than an hour later)! The prices seem to vary depending upon where you get them but at the BeautyBrands.com website most are just $12.99. Learn more on the Wella Web Site
This Summer, in June, we reviewed a remarkable hair dryer: The Phuse Quiet! Dryer (Srp. $125.00) that is not just quiet, but has a power nozzle “Accelerator Shot” that boosts the airflow. With the attachment on it, the dryer packs a wind force punch up to 50 MPH while reducing drying time. What we forgot to mention in that review is the excellent Phuse can’t Take the Heat Thermal Protection with Argan Oil which is a lightweight serum that protects your hair when you heat style and heat dry. Use just a little when you dry and definitely when you are using heat tools, and you’ll see hair that looks less “baked” in your mirror when you’re done. Phuse Beauty is sold through shopping parties or online . Note: If you want to buy any of the 38 Phuse Beauty products you must Visit the Phuse Beauty Website and sign up as a customer (to get the prices). You can also opt to attend or host a Phuse Beauty party or give one, yourself.
