QVC amazes me, not just because they have a huge range of boutique beauty brands and well as the more “beloved” ones, but because they manage to get special editions just for them, and they get new products delivered to QVC customers faster than a lot of the bricks and mortar and other online retailers. So I’m always excited to be able to share “newbies” for QVC from brands I really like, but that you might not have tried yet.
Koh Gen Do is unique and upscale, created by an actress in Japan who was concerned about the health of her skin. The mineral makeup was made for high definition television, so you know that you will look good even under scrutiny, close up. The products do not contain Artificial Colors, Synthetic Fragrance, Mineral Oil derived from Petroleum, or Parabens. They are also gluten-friendly, and not tested on animals.Launched just this March on QVC is Koh Gen Do Moisture Foundation with Brush and Color Base QVC Item #A262887 ($59.00 + $3.00 shipping & handling – value $92.00) configured specifically for QVC with a fabulous brush and a small quantity of Pearl White Makeup Color Base -(the base is a cream-based primer that helps add the look of luster to dull skin).
The Koh Gen Do Moisture Foundation is a cream foundation in a tube that you apply (with a stipling motion) with the included foundation brush (or however you want to apply it, but the brush works best) and gives you the look of a smooth, poreless finish with a natural-looking luster. This foundation is not heavy. In fact, your skin will look like it naturally does, only with lines and imperfections, blurred. You don’t need a lot (just an amount about the size of a large pea) to cover your face. Think about stenciling techniques when you are applying the foundation. Put the foundation on your hand, dip the brush in it, and then “stiple” or lightly push the foundation onto your face, blending it in with your fingers for a final touch if you wish. The end result will be a sheer look, but you can add more layers for additional coverage if needed. You can also set this with powder if you wish.
The little tube of Pearl White Makeup Color Base is really a very pearly white highlighter. I wondered why QVC and Koh Gen Do included such a small tube, but after using it I realized that you really need very little and if you add too much or use it all over your face it will make your face look very “white” and kind of wierd. Use it sparingly if at all.
Another thing to note about Koh Gen Do is that the colors are deceivingly light. If you can’t find the color that suits you, you can blend two together. QVC has a chart that lets you choose from Porcelain to Deep, but on the Koh Gen Do website it’s by numbers. I received OO2 as a sample, which I assume is “Fair” on the QVC chart, but it was quite light. Still, it’s sheer and blend-able so wear-able. This mineral makeup cream foundation actually turns into liquid foundation when applied, infused with 80% moisturizing ingredients into the formula to give you the superior coverage of a cream foundation and a smooth, sheer finish like a liquid foundation. The minerals also help reflect light so it appears that your skin is more flawless than it really is (let’s face it — no one’s skin is naturally flawless).
You may be going out to greet the day, and not under the lights of a studio and high definition cameras, but the formula will stand up to heat and humidity without feeling at all heavy (thanks to T3 Oil Blend to hydrate and provide long comfortable wear). That’s a real plus if you are busy all day long and can’t stop to touch up. And your skin will appreciate the nourishing ingredients in this fine foundation including Hydrolyzed Yeast Extract (Collagen) and Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract to hydrate and condition your skin.
The set includes: 0.71-oz Moisture Foundation in Porcelain (001), Fair (012), Light (002), Medium (013), Tan (023), or Deep (003)/ 0.11-oz Makeup Color Base in Pearl White/ Foundation brush
