Light up your life, literally! LIT NYC! is inspired by wearable technology and New York City, the city that never sleeps. The nail polishes and lip glosses feature an LED lighted cap, and the lip glosses have a mirror on the side of the wanded tubes so you can polish your lips, even in the dark. You might be wondering why you’d need extra light if you’re not polishing or primping in the dark, so let me shed some light on this (pun is intended)! Nail salons are usually quite bright, and a lot of professionals use lighted mirrors so they can see all details. The LED light on LIT NYC caps puts a spotlight on your nails or lips so you can see precisely where to apply the product, and you can really see the color too. You will be amazed what a big difference this little thing makes. , and it also lets you check out the color It’s a little thing that really makes a difference, especially I think, with nail polish application. It’s not like you’re paying more for this benefit, either, as both the LIT NYC Nail Polishes (24 shades) and the LIT NYC Lipglosses (12 shades) are just $7.50 each. The polish is formaldehyde, camphor, DBP formaldehyde resin, and Toluene-free.
Ours, from the initial holiday collection included the “Sassy” nail polish, a sheer overlay of mostly coppery-gold with a hint of glittery parti-colored shimmer (by the way, it dries super-quickly). We tried our sample over a dark brown nail polish, and it gilded our nails with stunningly beautiful glitz in just one coat. The lipglosses are very silky and shiny. We only tried a few, but the formulas range from a sheet tint to opaque. For Valentine’s Day try something besides red, such as Lust,” a bright hot pink opaque with mirror-like shine, and the perfect name for a “hot” Valentines’ Day. These recently hit the shelves at CVS Drugstores.

Eyes are the windows to the soul, so they say. You don’t have to say a word, and you can say a thousand words. Frame your eyes with Boots No7 new Dramatic Lift Mascara ($9.99) that just launched. Inspired by hair care technology, this innovative mascara has flexible polymers and Keratin to volumize lashes, Boots claims lifting them by 70% . We can’t measure this, but we can say it helped us bat our eyelashes to good effect by making them deeper, longer, and more volumized. This budget-friendly mascara comes in black/brown and black, featuring a curved bristle brush that lengthens, separates and define without clumping. We actually tried to make it clump and it wouldn’t! . Here’s how to make the most of this new mascara: (1) begin by rotating the mascara brush in the barrel and load mascara onto the wand — this little step really helps (2) fit the wand to the shape of your lashes, lift the brush with the arched side upwards and brush through lashes from root to tip (3) apply a single coat to create a natural look or layer with several coats for an evening look; layer coats as needed until desired lash look is achieved (if your lashes are super sparse, use a few coats). I can’t think of a more perfect date night lipstick than a sexy matte pencil called “Velvetease ($24.00) by M-A-C- Cosmetics. Launched in December 2015, the oh-so-portable pencils slide on silky and creamy, and luxuriously matte. You don’t even need to sharpen them (how smart is that)?! There are a dozen shades, something from nude to deep for everyone, but the two red pencils below are the ones we think will win hearts right now: “Anything Goes” is a rose red that shows your runway style. “Reddy to Go” is a brick red looks more sensual, just a bit more “dangerous” go for it! Not all budget lipsticks are great, but some are sexy and fun. Thanks to Hard Candy, you can get good quality and flirty lippies. All Matte Up ($5.00) are new, tote-able, chunky, lip pencils with a moistly matte look that doesn’t look harsh. They also have the benefit of tropical butters and oils that moisturize. During the Winter, this is really important. The pencils are fairly long wear (you’ll still have a bit of a lipstain left when it’s time to re-apply) in four unexpected shades that aren’t the same-old pinks, reds, and berries. Try “Venom,” a blackish purple for “your vampish” side. “Earthly Marsala” and “Berry Matte” are also deeper and more sophisticated takes on the traditional along with “Matterly in Love,” a deeper, brighter, rosed pink. For a traditional bullet lipstick, Hard Candy offers Fierce Effects Lipstick ($5.00) in a cute black case with shiny silver sparkles and a top that shows the color. These newbie lipsticks are highly pigmented and even more than that, you get argan oil for moisture and shine — very much appreciated by those of us dealing with chapped lips. ” Budget priced they may be, but they slide on in one stroke and feel very velvety and luxurious — a nice surprise for the price. “Show Off” is a bold red that’s Valentine’s Day ready, but if you want to try something a bit more trend. there are nine shades. Try a bold color like “Thunder” (a bright purple) or “Black Diamond” (a nearly black purple). Find Hard Candy exclusively at Walmart, and on the Hard Candy Web Site
Sometimes you just don’t feel like wearing a full coverage foundation — there are lots or reasons (e.g. it’s a casual day, or you don’t want it rubbing off on the pillows or on your S/O during a romantic moment). Instead, try a BB creme like this fabulous Immortelle Precious BB Cream SPF30 ($24.00) from L’Occitaine which blurs imperfections, but also protects your skin with SPF 30 , but SPF. It’s not brand new, but it’s new to us, and we think you will want to wear use it year-round. For a casual look or when you just want light coverage, this is a perfect solution. The BB has 15.32% Titanium Dioxide to protect to SPF 30 which is acceptable for outdoor use. The cream itself is particularly good because it’s not sticky, or oily, has just a light floral scent, and blends imperceptibly into your skin. It’s part of the “Immortelle” line which is exclusive to L’Occitane. Immortelle is known as the everlasting flower that won’t fade even after it has been picked. You get the idea — their anti-aging ingredient is an organic essential oil harvested from the flowers grown on L’Occitane’s own large-scale, sustainable and organic immortelle plantation program in Corsica. There are three shades of this BB cream: Fair, Light, and Medium. L’Occitane suggests the medium shade for medium to darker skin tones or for a sunkissed effect, but my skin is fair/light medium and it was fine on me without looking deep or orange. The lighter shades are quite sheer and blend-able so if your skin is very light to fair, you can use either of the lighter shades. If you have skin that is fair to medium, use the medium and blend it out. Like many BB creams, there isn’t a very deep shade, but this BB cream still makes a nice base for a deeper toned foundation due to the skin benefits and SPF. Get yours and shop the entire Immortelle line on the L’Occitaine Web Site
Some products just make us happy, and the just launched Velvet Matte Skin Tint SPF 30 ($44.00) with an oil-free, blend-able formula that gives your skin a matte, but not too matte, finish is one of those. You get real coverage that looks radiant and with it, sun protection SPF 30 with 7.5% Octinoxate and 3% Octisalate (and Vitamins C and E for skin benefits). That’s not the “sexy” in this product, but it’s important for the future of your health and your skin. We love the natural and full but layerable formula (you really can control it) plus, the shine control, the good for all skin types formula (even oily skin types), and the way the cream-in-a-tube slides on like velvet and stays true to color blurring every imperfection in it’s path. The soft focus matte is just plan sexy. There are a dozen shades, and NARS always makes sure there are plenty of colors in the light, medium and deep ranges in various tones. The best way to choose yours is to try the shades on in person, not just from a color swatch. The flip tube tube and 1.7 fl. oz. size make it travel friendly, too. The Velvet Matte Skin Tint is available on NARSCosmetics.com , NARS boutiques, Sephora and specialty stores.
