New York Fashion Week A/W 2013:REED KRAKOFF, DIESEL BLACK GOLD Redken’s Runway Report with hair by Guido

Redken Creative Consultant Guido sent the models at the Reed Krakoff Fall 2013 show down the runway this afternoon with clean, rich blow-outs that complemented the designer’s polished, well-cut collection in a variety of rich textured materials from cashmere to leather.

“I didn’t want this blow dry to feel too fresh or perfect, I wanted it to feel a little old, like it might be on the second day. It’s straight, but still with the memory of the shape [made by blowing drying with a round brush], so it feels luxurious but not in an obviously luxurious way. It’s a minimal idea for hair. Reed Krakoff is a newer New York designer who creates very modern styles, so there’s not a larger conic reference, and this hairstyle is thus really for a woman of today, and is more about a feeling than it is about a set style.”

Redken Products Used:

  • powder refresh 01 aerosol hair powder/dry shampoo
  • NEW Diamond Oil Shampoo & Conditioner (launches MAY 1)

Create the Look:

  1. Wash hair using Diamond Oil shampoo and conditioner to start the style with clean, fresh hair.
  2. Create a messy center part.
  3. Section hair and blow-dry with a round brush, letting each section cool on the brush.
  4. Guido then blow-dried the hair again quickly once done and added powder refresh 01 aerosol hair powder/dry shampoo to the lengths, to create a more “lived in” texture and a matte finish.

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a strong, modern update on the pony today for the Diesel Black Gold Fall 2013 collection. The hairstyle couldn’t have been more fitting to the collection, aptly named “Need for Speed” with tailored, close-cut pieces fit for the type of “biker girl” you might envision wearing the collection.

“This look is a little bit rock n’ roll, created with the sort of tough Diesel girl who wears the denim and leather in the collection in mind- she wears a simple, easy, but sexy hairstyle. It’s also update to the ponytail that’s a good option for a woman who wants to pull off a wet, shiny look but finds it tough to wear that look with her hair down- in a pony the look feels more controlled. By overusing Redken’s new control addict 28 hairspray the finish looks wet, for a just-out-of-the shower feeling that adds to the whole cool-girl vibe the line has as a whole.”

Redken Products Used:

  • full frame 07 all over volumizing mousse
  • NEW control addict 28 high control hairspray

Create the Look:

  1. Starting with slightly damp hair, saturate with full frame 07 mousse working section by section and adding most on the crown.
  2. Rake style back with fingers and secure into a low pony with an elastic.
  3. Clip the sides of the pony in place and gently pull hair up at the crown so that it dries with a little height.
  4. Let air dry. (Guido used blow dryers given timing guido diesel 2 at the show, spraying control addict 28 high control hairspray into the style as he dried.)
  5. Spray control addict 28 high control hairspray all over finished style for extra hold. Guido “overused” the hairspray for a laquer-like finish that would stay in place for the duration of the show.
