M.A.C. nail polish swatches new colors (reprinted from Temtalia)

Some things you just don’t want to take for granted.  Nail Lacquers by M.A.C Cosmetics, for one.  They have a dazzling collection of “lips & tips” that are not just the limited editions, coveted by collectors, but tried-and-true classics that M.A.C. fans can’t live without.

But now, there are a whopping 31 more M.A.C. Nail Lacquers ($16.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) being added to the permanent, I’ll be there for you always, range of colors. Some are brand new, some are beloved parts of previous, limited edition collections. Obviously, I didn’t try them all, but I did get four: Snob, Girl About Town, Skin, and Fiestaware.  I’ll be providing a few words about each, with some personal comments about the ones I actually tried.

Before I do, let me say that I am a big fan of the M.A.C. polishes. There is such a wide variety of formulas that don’t chip easily, and that won’t let you down. But not all the formulas are created equal. I like a glossy polish in an intense shade that needs no coaxing to coat my nails, but some of the colors need to be layered.  What’s great and what’s not is highly subjective. Some of the more sheer colors may be the thing you love the most. When you’re paying $16.00 a bottle, the choice to “invest”in a specific color has to be a personal one.

Here is a look at what’s going to be in the permanent collection, new colors noted, and the four I tried, with comments:

Mac Fiestaware

■Fiestaware looks like a light peach, but it’s a tangerine orange with a cream finish. *this is a bright orange, and perfect for Summer’s citrus trend. you’ll need a few coats to get an intense finish, but it’s worth it

■Rougemarie is a medium-dark blue-based red cream

■Flaming Rose is a bright, medium red cream * new shade

■Sparks on Screen is a red glitter polish with multi-sized particles of ruby red, crimson, and lighter red with a perle finish *new shade.

■Deep Sea is a deep, dark blue-teal with a hint of green with a creamy finish

■Midnight Tryst is a bluish gunmetal gray with fine teal and silver micro-shimmer

■Formidable is a dark purpled burgundy base with a duochrome of blue-teal to fuchsia-purple and a perle finish. .

■Mean & Green is a dark olive green base with a duochrome of rosy plum to golden olive green and a perle finish.

■Vintage Vamp is a dark burgundy-red cream.

■Shirelle is a brightened orange-red cream.

■Soiree is a champagne and copper shimmered frost

M.A.C SKIN

■Skin is a light semi-sheer flesh that looks like beige skin. *this new shade is a semi-sheer that will warm the hearts of those who like a true, nude look

■Faint of Heart is a soft ivory warm cream *new shade.

■Delicate is a pale white-pink with a cream finish.

■Impassioned is an orange-coral with a cream finish.

■Morange is a nice, medium orange with a cream finish.

■Girl Trouble is a silvered, pale purple with a perle finish. *new shade.

■Snob is a slightly warm, mostly neutral light-medium pink that is semi-sheer. *I needed three coats for coverage, but the result was a ladylike, easy to wear, medium pink that works on every skin tone

■Screaming Bright is a muted metallic gold-champagne *new shade.

■Saint Germain is a cool, light-medium pink.

■Steamy is a creamy, medium-dark blue-based pink with a cream finish.

■Quiet Time is a gray–tinted light-medium beige with a cream finish.

■Anti-Fashion is a frost formula with a soft, smoky purple and subtle red-brown undertones *new shade.

■Dark Angel is a deep purple with red undertones and a cream finish.

M.A.C Girl About Town

■Girl About Town is a bright, intense, fuchsia pink with blue undertones. *this rich cream covers in one coat, but add another for instant “wow! The blue-based tone flatters cool skin the best, but it looks flashy and interesting on pale, warm skin as well.

■Spirit of Truth is a brightened navy blue with a cream finish.

■Coffee Break is a cream, medium-dark gray-tinted brown *new shade.

■Discotheque is a metallic light silver perle with silver shimmer. *new shade.

■Nightfall is a frosty, dark, gunmetal gray with silver shimmer.

■Nocturnelle is a sleek, dramatic, glossy black cream.
