there is NO need to do this…it is way too much!!!

The holidays are really a great time to rock your hair.  But, that doesn’t mean that you have to change your entire look. As Redken’s Creative Consultant Guido Palau is fond of saying, special occasion hair should look like you made an effort, not like you made yourself entirely over.  Big bunches of lamb curls or a fussy updo are not what dreams are made of!   Add a sparkly hairpin or two, a pretty hairband, make a braid or do something a little out of the ordinary, and you’re ready to party.

The beautiful Jenny Balding, who is also my favorite hair stylist  and a Senior Stylist and Grooming & Styling Expert at NYC’s Cutler/Redken Salon, has been kind enough to also share three 15-minute festive do’s for holiday soirees that can easily be created on the go, even in the office powder room!

You’re pressed for time before a party and need a chic, modern look—fast! A fixture on the runway this season, the
is ideal for long hair, and even better for when hair is greasy as it looks sleek instead of unkempt. Use a straightening iron to smooth hair from mid length to the ends and then gather up into a ponytail right above the nape of your neck, which will enhance your cheekbones. To finish, brush from top to tail and mist all over with a strong hold hairspray like Redken Control Addict 28 –  Voilà!  An instant facelift!

faux bob

If you want to vamp up your look before a night on the town, sweep your hair into a Faux Bob. This style works best for wavy hair, jaw-length or longer and is a great alternative to a basic blow out. Tie your hair into a low, slightly loose ponytail and then fold the tail up and tuck underneath at the nape of your neck. Pin using a few large bobby pins. Gently loosen a few strands around your hairline and in minutes you have an elegant, new look for the evening.

Spray all over starting at the roots and massage lightly with your fingers throughout. Backcomb a few small sections at the crown and hairline to create a little extra volume. Finally, mist all over with a light hairspray like Redken Fashion Work 12. This will give your hair a quick, all-over volume boost before you head out to a holiday bash.

rock your hair

While I personally use and have endorsed a lot of  Redken and Pureology products (and Redken is coming out with a lot of exciting new styling products in 2014–more on that in a few…), I also recently tried a really fun line of hair products called Rock Your Hair,  that come in hot pink containers with sparkling rhinestone hearts on them.  The Michael O’Rourke Rock Your Hair Miracle Leave-In Conditioner Weightless Detangler, 7.5 fl oz  (price seems to vary from $15.00-$20.00) is Paraben, sulfate and formaldehyde free and made my hair soft and shiny without any residue. but it also helps to protect your hair from heat stylers, and it is particularly essential when your hair has been color-treated and/or  chemically processed hair. Soy, wheat and oat proteins reinforce hair from shaft to ends, and add moisture and shine, even if your hair is dry. As a reviewer, I got plenty o fproducts that make the promise to make my hair shiny and soft, while protecting it, but many of them really don’t deliver, or they do, but then I end up with slimy, limp hair in a short while, This product really does deliver. And, for extra hold,  the  Spray it Hard Big Volume Hairspray ($22.00 10 Oz.) is a nice finishing spray that dries fast, keeps frizz at bay, and still lets you work your hair so it isn’t crunchy or heavy and thick. There’s nothing worse than a man in a moment of passion reaching for your hair, and getting his hand stuck in it!  This won’t happen with Rock Your Hair.  The line has plenty of other good products, too.
