I’m not going to lie. I have been obsessed with Shiseido makeup, skincare, fragrance….everything since I was a teenager and I first discovered the Shiseido makeup counter at A&S in Brooklyn. One of the ladies at the Shisedo counter took pity on my sister, my friend Helayne Silver, and I, and constantly gave us samples of things to try. I was smitten, besotted, completely hooked. You might say that Shiseido started my life-long love of cosmetics.
There are many other reasons why I have a love of Shiseido. Their products are of the highest quality, with cutting edge technology married to performance and beauty, such as the White Lucent skincare The Advice Sisters reviewed last year. Each color cosmetics collection also offers something special for various skin types and complexions.
I am a bit late in reporting on the Shiseido Spring 2013 Makeup Collection, but the products are available on counter and online at www.shiseido.com now and it’s not too late to dig into the delights they’re offering.
One of the truly exciting (and new) products is the Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lip Color ($25.00). According to Dick Page, Shiseido’s Artistic Director, it is his creative color vision mixed with technology, that brings the unique colors and intense lip colors, to life. I honestly like all of the Shiseido lip formulas, but this one gives you a coat of opaque, intense color that literally seems to glow with moisture (and it feels really silky). There are 15 shades, so there is at least one thing you are going to love, and probably a lot more. I was sent #347 Ballet, a deep pink that looks almost like a deep rose. As I swiped it on my less than lovely (and dry) lips, they were literally transformed. Hyaluronic acid helps hold in moisture and Shiseido’s Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE to also locks it in, so even Winter weary lips look smooth. Color technology: Red Illuminating Pearl, adds strength and vividness that creates truly brilliant color definition, and the instant you apply it, vibrant color blooms on the lips. Here’s the rundown on the colors as described by Shiseido: BE 740 Vision – a modern rose beige, wearable, super chic; RS 745 Fantasia – a deep, bruised rose, a dream of wine; OR 341 Fleur – an optimistic bright coral shade, fun and sun!; RD 346 Bedtime – a warm, romantic rose, subtle and bare; PK 307 Tourmaline – clear, soft grey pink, freshness & clarity; RS 711 Venetian Rose – deep grey rose, sophisticated & discreet; RD 142 Sublime – all about daily glamor, and confident romance; RS 320 Fuchsia – brilliant blue pink. Punk or couture?; PK 343 Secret – a discreet, quiet peach, subtle and suggestive; RD 304 Sweet Pea – fresh, soft red, clear, sweet and floral; RD 514 Dragon – dramatic blood red, sexy and intense; RS 347 Ballet – an ecstatic, energetic pink, electric, forceful; OR 544 Tiger – an aggressive bold orange, it’s tiger!; RS 448 Sensation – a dose of bright pink power! It’s all about energy; PK 417 Bubblegum – bright warm pink, fun sweet
There is also Perfect Rouge Tender Sheer ($25.00) that gives you the moist and glowing finish of the intense, opaque Perfect Rouge, but in a lighter, more sheer version that even minimizes the look of vertical lip lines. I love the eye=catching, metallic red case (so Shiseido!) and the moisturizing, silky finish. This lip colour also has Shiseido’s Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE + Hyaluronic Acid provides a long lasting moisture effect improving roughness and flaking. There are 10 shades in user-friendly pinks, primarily, I was sent #506 Foxy. The silky, hydrating formula and the deep rose color was similar to the Perfect Rouge #347 Ballet, but just a little less intense. Loved it!
For something even more dramatic, there’s a liquid lip color called Lacquer Rouge ($25.00) also with the comfort and moisturization of Shiseido’s Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE + Hyaluronic Acid. But this product isn’t a lipstick bullet, it is a liquid in a wanded tube. It’s inspired by Japanese Laquerware, and you only need one coat to get a very intense and sexy color. There are a dozen shades, but I tried #310 (Amethyst), a light pink (you can see it in the photo above). Like the other lip products that Shiseido is offering, this one has skin loving benefits. It helps to deal with dry, rough or peeling lips. With continued use, it will actually leave your lips looking better, smoother and softer, as well as dramatically colored.
The eyes are one of the most important features to focus on in every season, and this Spring is no exception. Shiseido fans will be excited to learn that there are also two new shades of the Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio ($33.00). These chic black mirrored compacts how three complimentary shadows that can be worn in various ways both wet and dry. The shadows are lusterious, but not overtly pearly or shimery, and they slide on with a fingertip (best to use a brush or sponge-tipped applicator). The shadows have micromatic color pigments that reflects the light and to deal with Winter weary and dry skin, the benefits of Shiseido’s Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE. They’re long wearing, and simply the most luxurious shadows you can find. The new shades are Beach Grass (RD299) – cream, bronze and dark mauve shades inspired by beach grass near an old island fort in South Carolina; and Pink Sands (RD711) – pink, grey-brown and peach shades inspired by sand dunes in the setting sun. Shiseido’s descriptions may be very poetic, but as I see it, the warm shades of Beach Grass will flatter those who want a bit of a sunny glow, and Pink Sands is a brighter, cooler effect with pink and peach to warm up those pale complexions before the Summer sun, hits for real.
Also for Spring are two new two shades of Lumizing Satin Face Color ($30.00) . I didn’t try these personally, but, like the eye shadows, these have a soft as silk, blend-able texture and the skin loving benefits of Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE. The Spring shades are: Medusa (PK107) – illuminates with a delicate bluish radiance; and ; Starfish (OR308) – naturally fresh and sun-kissed.
I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention that Shiseido has an Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector with Broad Spectrum SPF 43 ($30.00). It’s oil free and water-resistant up to 40 minutes. A tinted moisturizer gives you a lot of value and performance for your dollar, plus beautifying bennies. You KNOW you should wear sun protection ever day, and you’l love this product, especially if you liked the Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector SPF 42 PA++ ($30.00 1 fl. oz.) a water resistant sunscreen that is packed with powerful protection, and gives your skin a matte finish, that The Advice Sisters reviewed (and loved) last July. But this tinted moisturizer gives you sun protection, moisturization, and comes in three colors (light, medium and dark, essentially), but all can be blended to nearly invisible, or just, sheer. The sample I was sent is the medium shade . It contains SuperVeil-UV 360™ offering comprehensive protection of the skin’s surface, and Profense CEL™ which protects cells and DNA, and helps inhibit enzyme activity—the causes of wrinkles and uneven skintone. This product also has the skin-repairing antixodant ingredent, Thiotaurine, along wit rose apple leaf extract to help inhibit oxidation caused by external environmental factors. The actives are 2% Enssulizole, 7.4% Octinoxate, and 7.2% Titanium Dioxide.
The oil-free formulas is fresh smelling, and has no Parabens, Sulfates , or Phthalates. This tube of skin-caring goodness can be used as a makeup base, but as’is, my test of it smoothed blemishes and redness, but wasn’t at all shiny or mask-like. It’s light, portable at 1.1 oz., and pleasant to smell, use and wear. If you’ve been making excuses that you don’t want to wear sun protection because it doesn’t smell, look, or feel good, or that tinted moisturizers make you break out or break through with oily shine, you’ve just eliminated your last excuse! Well worth the money and the investment, in my opinion.
