Two NARS Cosmetics newbies, Contour Blush and Reformulated Lip Gloss . This is exciting news! With Spring comes new products from some of The Advice Sisters favorite lines. Here are two of our favorite new from NARS items to try now and enjoy for months to come!
The Contour Blush comes in the iconic black matte compact with interior mirror featuring the distinctive, NARS logo in white. The minute I heard Contour Blush ($42.00) I was concerned, because contouring a face is best left to skilled hands. If you don’t contour correctly the results can be very dramatic, or just make your face look like it was painted in an unnatural way. However, these blushes with a strip of light contour powder nestled again them, are subtle. There are three (light, light/,medium and deep). Olympia is the lightest, a rose blush with ivory contour. Paloma is billed as a deep rose with a pink beige contour, Gienah is a very deep amber blush with a honey contour (for deep complexions only).
The thing that is striking about these blush/contour compacts is that the lighter two look like they’ll blush beige on your skin, but they have warmer color than that, although the look is still beige-y rose and beige-y pink. The blush is fairly intense, best diffused on skin with a NARS Blush Brush #20 ($42.00). You can use them as a natural blush, buffed well and made natural. However, if you decide to contour you must use the correct tool, in this case the NARS #21 Contour Brush ($42.00) that is angled to help you get the right effect. I also used the #11 bronzing powder brush ($52.00) with natural hair and that worked really well, too, especially if you prefer a dense concentration of color..
Francois (NARS) suggests creating a sculpted cheek this way: ” Apply the deeper shade of the Contour Blush to the hallow of the cheek with the Contour Brush #21. Using the Blush Brush #20, sweep the lighter shade across the cheekbone towards the temple to soften and highlight. Finish the look with a pop of your favorite Blush shade on the apples of the cheek. “
Contouring is fun, but it take practice unless you just have an innate skill for makeup application of this sort. Contouring can do all sorts of great things to seriously sculpt your face (just ask any drag queen), but unless you have practiced with the products you want to use and looked at the results from all sides, keep the look in “draft.” until you get it right, or simply use the contour/blush as a blush.
NARS Lip Glosses are already coveted items with cult status, but they’ve been reformulated with a silky texture and a new applicator that makes these glosses longer wearing with a lots of color choices, and natural shine.
With a new formulation that feels silky, light, and luxurious, NARS Lip Gloss ($26.00) lavishly coats lips in a full spectrum of shades with sophisticated natural shine – perfect for everyday glamour. The silky texture and new doe-foot applicator provide precise application and longer, more comfortable wear.
The lip glosses are not particularly “patent leather” but they do offer a lot of pout-perfecting natural, glossy shine. In addition, the glosses have good for your lips ingredients that hydrate and help smooth fine lines (e.g. itamin E to to hydrate), while sea lavender provides anti-aging benefits. The collection includes 30 shades from light to dark; plus 7 additional fashion-forward new shades and 23 iconic favorites.
I tried three shades in light, medium and dark. All look intense and almost opaque in the tube, but really they are still sheer-ish lip glosses. “Wonder” is a sheer mandarin orange with pink and gold shimmer, it’s not intense so it is a user-friendly way to wear the orange lip trend, without looking clownish. “Risky Business “is a shimmer formula and very sheer. While the lip glosses are touted as highly pigmented, Wonder and Risky business were really more like a light lip tint with lots of light reflecting line. ” Sixties Fan” however, looks like it will be a deep berry on your lips, but it is more like a shiny and semi-intense lip stain. In short, although there are lots of other colors, the three I tried were not intense, but offered enough of a tint to add color. Layering these glosses really didn’t make them more intense either. They’re perfect for Spring and Summer, when you want to lighten up the color on your lips, but not go bare or “blah.”
Here is the rundown on the 7 new shades:
