Do you love the look of lush, thick, dark lashes, but loathe having to remove mascara? Do you have lash extensions and find they fall out before they should? Whether you hate the struggle and mess to remove long-lasting mascara, or you’ve used an eye makeup remover that has weakened the adhesive bond between lash and extension washing off more than just your mascara, there is a solution! The Talika Oil-free Lash Conditioning Cleanser $24.00 3.4 fl. oz. gives your lashes, natural or extension, the TLC they deserve. The gel formula removes even stubborn to remove, waterproof mascara, without pulling your lashes or lash extensions out.
This clever cleanser arrives in an elegant, frosted plastic, oxygen-free pump tube, showcasing the ice blue, gel/liquid formula inside. The product is so luxe, it even comes with an attached mini-nozzle to put over the pump, keeping it clean, and then there’s an additional clear cover of that. If there is a downside, it’s the smell: light but with a whiff of something medicinal. But you won’t be smelling it for very long, because just two pumps on a cotton pad or ball will remove stubborn mascara fast, without a struggle, and without leaving an icky, oily residue in, on and around your eyes. The product is primarily an eye makeup/mascara remover but it’s a multi-tasker. This Talkia makeup remover also as lash conditioners (protective silk proteins and softening cornflower extracts) to help make lashes stronger, longer and healthier.
Another unusual, luxe, multi-tasker from Talika called “Smile & Kiss ($35.00) pampers your lips and teeth on the run, or anywhere you wish. Made in France where they know how to “do chic” so well, this shiny, silver, dual-ended wand has a “Smile” product to help instantly mitigate teeth stains, thanks to a non-abrasive gel enriched with safe, hydrogen peroxide. This formula, delivered by a brush-tipped wand, also has essential mint and lemon oils for mouth freshness any time, any where, but it’s recommended for use morning and night after brushing your teeth.
The “Kiss” side offers dry lips a nourishing balm, delivered by sponge-tipped wand, featuring a natural formula of peptides, marine collagen, plant extracts, and ginger and cinnamon essential oils. The balm is moist but not shiny, so you can apply your favorite gloss or lip products over it. Apply Smile any time you wish. The product feels really great and soothing, and over time might just reduce lines and lip creases, even revive the natural color of your lips. It’s a perfect travel companion, and this two-in-one may truly have you smiling more often!
If you have dry skin, you probably know about Shea Butter. It’s one of the most soothing, healing and moisturizing ingredients you can use, to help bring dry, cracked, irritated skin back to life. Shea butter can be formulated in a lightweight manner, bu often, it’s heavy and leaves a coating on the skin. One company with affordable, user-friendly, shea-butter-centric products, is Shea Moisture, established in 1912 (according to the label) . It is a line of natural, organic, personal care products that use Shea butter as the star ingredient. Sold in Walgreens, Walmart, and Target, it is also affordable. While the natural, certified organic products arrive in simple plastic containers, the products inside do not have: phthlates, paraffin, parabens, gluten,
propylene glycol, mineral oil, synthetic fragrance, PABA, synthetic color, DEA or sulfates. These are also cruelty free with no animal testing . www.sheamoisture.com There are several different types of scents, but the most popular seems to be the Egyptian Musk that is dexotifying and healing, with the addition of Red Bush and Sage. Personally, I’m a fan of the Lemongrass & Ginger with Orange Peel that is purifying and uplifting, lemony and happy!
There are products for every member of the family, from baby, to kids and moms, to dad. There are, for example, organic products just for baby. I’d put the, in a pretty basket along with some little toys and trinkets, and give it to a new mom as an affordable, “welcome new baby” gift. For Dad, there’s a shave line. Teens might like the Organic African Black Soap with Shea Butter (Srp, $4.99). This hefty soap bar for acne prone and troubled skin looks cool, and helps keep skin looking healthy, featuring Palm Ash, Tamarind Extract, Tar and Plantain peel, used in Africa for centuries to treat eczema, acne, oily skin, psoriasis, hyperpigmentation and other skin ailments.
My personal favorite is the Exfoliating Body Scrub (srp. $9.99 12 oz.). The exfoliating power comes from sugar crystals that you can really feel as you massage the product (gently, please) into your skin. As the crystals dissolve, taking dull, dry, dread skin flakes along with it, you get to smell the light and clean base. One tip: this is an exfoliator with a lot of “liquid oil” in it, so be sure to mix it up first before you apply it. Also be sure to wipe down your tub or shower after you’ve finished, because the oil in this product can make your tub or shower, slick. A 12 oz tub of scrub for about $10.30 will last you for a while and is a great deal! Visit Walgreens and Walgreen.com, and also Target and Walmart.
There are not too many products that The Advice Sisters would say are more than “hope in a jar,” but AVON ANEW products offer more than just a hope and a prayer, they offer results. And even more amazingly, they manage to do it at a reasonable price. On January 25th, Avon ANEW celebrated its milestone 20th birthday with a trip down memory lane, back to 1992, the year ANEW launched. Supermodel and ANEW spokesperson, Paulina Porizkova and 90’s TV icon, Alfonso Ribeiro (aka Carlton Banks from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air!). were there. Paulina says she has used ANEW for years.
One newbie from Avon is ANEW CLINICAL Resurfacing Expert Smoothing Fluid ($38.00 1 fl. oz). The product is formulated with professional-grade ingredients that exfoliate, retexturize and replenish, skin. According to Avon, this exfoliating liquid in a fancy pump bottle is “79% as effective as a professional microdermabrasion.” (*Based on a clinical study vs. three professional microdermabrasion treatments over 12 weeks). I didn’t try this for that long, but what I can say is that you’ll see skin peel off gently, without the irritation of a full-scale, professional treatment, and you’ll get results for much, much less.
If there are any downsides, it’s that it actually works, and that means your skin may be flaky as the dead skin is sloughed off. Moisturizer helps, but if it’s too much dryness, try using it just once a day. Avon says you’ll see dramatically re-texturized skin in three days, but for more dramatic results you have to use it morning and night. Then, you may see pretty dramatic changes, even fewer fine lines. But while this is a DIY resurfacing treatment, it’s still a chemical-based “peel.” Those with sensitive skin need to do a patch test first to see if their skin can handle it. (Ingredients listed are: WATER/EAU ; SD ALCOHOL 40-B ; GLYCOLIC ACID ; GLYCERIN ; PVP ; THIODIPROPIONIC ACID ; TRIOXAUNDECANEDIOIC ACID ; SODIUM HYALURONATE; ARGININE; ASPARTIC ACID; CARNITINE ; CARRAGEENAN ; HYDROXYETHYLCELLULOSE
POLYSORBATE 20 ; PARFUM/FRAGRANCE ; AMMONIUM HYDROXIDE ; and DISODIUM EDTA). For those who can, used with ANEW GENICS moisturizer or one of Avon’s excellent night treatments, you will literally see dead skin coming off with a gentle scrub or a wash cloth. It’s easy, fast, and effective. I love the idea, and also the silvery, high-tech packaging that just looks expensive, elegant, and simply, cool! Visit www.avon.com to get yours, and all the fabulous ANEW products that Avon offers.
