What’s new in MAY from MAC Cosmetics? Brooke Candy? Fiercely independent digital sensation Brooke Candy is back to M·A·C with a transformative colour collection that unites the past, present and future of her creative spirit. Illusions melt away with brazen shades for eyes, lips and nails that dare you to stand up and stand out.
In this, a second collaboration with MAC Cosmetics, Brooke Candy does punk colors that might shock some, but are fun to try. The American rapper’s father is, most note-ably, the CFO of Hustler magazine and CEO of Hustler Casino, and Candy herself has been employed by Hustler as a mannequin stylist. Before becoming a pop singer, Candy worked in a strip-club called Seventh Veil for eight months. Perhaps that’s why metallic purple lips and nails are not a shocker, and the collection, while small, channels the likes of other MAC Divas such as Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, and Nicki Minaj.
I tried just two pieces, both lipsticks and quite different.
Brooke Candy Lipstick ($18.00) MIND CONTROL Bright cherry red [Amplified]
Brooke Candy Lipstick ($18.00) WITCHING HOUR Rich Purple [Matte]
MAC Cosmetics says: “Four hues of Lipstick make a boldly confident statement….Unique chrome packaging featuring a graphic black splatter with Brooke Candy’s signature.”
Here’s the thing about the collection and about MAC Cosmetics collections in general. Don’t say NO until you try them. Mind Control is a totally gorgeous red. And honestly, while Witching Hour is very dramatic for someone used to conservative colors like me (red is my signature), it’s kind of fun. Give Brooke Candy’s colors a try! You’ll be pleasantly surprised. Here’s a list of the entire collection:
Edgy, new, exciting…the newly released mascara from MAC features something different (of course)! This time it’s not so much the formula of the mascara that’s different, as it is the wand itself. The wand looks like a pipe cleaner and bends like one, too. Bend it any way your want up to 90 degrees.
The idea is great, because not everyone’s eyes and lashes are the same shape. Ideally, you can shape this wand and even the brush, so it will conform to exactly the way your eyes need it to be. However, doing so can be a bit messy, since you can’t get the wand back into the tube unless you straighten it back to the point where it will go back in…and once you do, you have to re-shape it all over again. With black mascara on the wand and the brush, the only way to do this neatly is to hold it with a tissue or something else. It’s not the cleanest or most hygienic way to work a mascara miracle.
We’re not going to get our knickers in a twist about this, because the mascara is really good, as long as you’re not fussing with the wand too much. For $22.00, it’s still one we’d recommend to put into your mascara collection.
