Beauty Review: A Trendy Fall Beauty Haul from Essence Cosmetics
That’s what we think of when we see the latest from Essence Cosmetics. These products always excite us because we can afford them all!
But that’s not all…
Essence Cosmetics may not be packaged in fancy compacts (but we like their simple packaging) but once on your skin the product perform. Essence comes out with products that follow the trends, but they are so affordable you can experiment without feeling guilty about loading up on new products.
There’s always something new to discover!
Now Essence has launched a new ecommerce website. Anytime you feel like you need a makeup boost, it’s there showcasing all the Essence Cosmetics products. Even better, the collection retails for $.99 to $9.99 so you can treat yourself without going broke. *you can also check out their new Instagram Handle: @essencemakeup!
The Velvets Eyeshadow ($2.99)
One of the things we have always loved about Essence eyeshadows is, surprisingly, the packaging. The compacts are completely clear on top so you can see the color of the shadow without having to open the case .
The Velvets are intense shadows that are available in 9 kitten soft shades of nude, beige, gray and brown that are soft but since they are intense color, they make a big impact. One swipe colors lids, fast.
Make Me Brow ($2.99):
If you want to go with the trend of defined brows, the “old fashioned” way is with a pencil, but tat looks harsh. The new way is to use a tinted gel formula. his one comes in a slim mini-sized mascara wand tube. The formula has little fibers to fill in gaps and make brows look fuller and smoother. Our “Blondy Brows” (there’s also soft
This brow mascara comes in a slim mini-sized mascara tube. The formula has little fibers to fill in gaps and make brows look fuller and smoother. Our “Blondy Brows” (there’s also soft browny, and browny) not only defined our brows, it tamed the “wild ones” down. Great for travel, too.
Invisible Kiss 2in1 Lipstick and Liner ($3.99)
This unusual lipstick/liner looks like a kohl Kajal eyeliner, thanks to the conical, ultra-pointed shape, but it is, in fact, a lipstick. Use the pointed tip to accurately outline lips and rotate to the side of the cone to fill them in. The problem we have with this is that there is no way to sharpen this nor retract it into the case. It’s a fun idea but it wears down quickly. Ours in “Invisible Kiss” doesn’t look anything like the Essence.com photo. Theirs is a bold rose, ours was a soft pink. Three other colors look to be brighter.
Forbidden Volume Mascara Collection ($3.99-$4.49)
We tried two of these mascaras, Forbidden Volume False Lash Mascara Top Coat and Forbidden Mascara Volume. The latter has a conic-shaped brush and a thickening formula which was perfectly nice, although nothing exciting.
The Forbidden Volume Mascara False Lash Mascara, however, surprised us with beautifully coated lashes that curled up nicely and looked thicker than they really were, thanks to tiny fibers in the formula.
Keep it Perfect! Make-Up Fixing Spray ($4.99)
A 1.69 fl. oz. bottle of clear spray helps to keep your makeup fresh and you can use it as a pick-me-up during the day. It has a slight chemical scent that dissipates almost immediately. If you use a primer on your skin before adding makeup we don’t really see the need for this.
However, if you’re one of those who perspires a lot or who has issues keeping makeup fresh, this is an affordable way to give your products extra life. *hold the spray about 6-10 inches away from your face to avoid a “blast” of liquid spray.
BB Beauty Balm Lipgloss ($3.49)
Who needs another lip balm with shea butter in a slanted tip squeeze tube? You do, (you will) after trying this BB Beauty Balm Lipgloss.
We may have found the perfect nude lipgloss in “O1 Keep it Real.” It’s not too light or “eggy” and the silky formula and high shine made our lips trendy but not so pale we looked washed out.
Shea Butter and Vitamin E are a plus, especially for dry lips. There are 5 shades from nude to bright red.
Prettifying Lip Oil ($2.99)
Lip oils are a “thing” right now. This one comes in three colors (red, raspberry, clear) and leaves a sweet taste and soft shine. Jojoba Oil helps keep lips moisturized. We prefer lip balms to oils, but there’s something for everyone. If you want to try this trend, yo can do it for under $3.00!
Mosaic Blush ($3.99)
This clear compact lets you really see the lovely embossed design of triangles. Wind-kissed, rosy cheeks available in 2 shades for this season. We tried “all you need is pink” featuring well…shades of light, medium and hot pink which translate on skin to a medium intense flush. There’s also a berry version. Both are generously-sized, blend-able and luxuriously silky.
What Wasn’t on the Essence Cosmetics e-Commerce Site:
We couldn’t find these particular products on the Essence e-commerce website. But they are available in Europe. We assume they’re comiung to the USA, soon:
The Porcelains Nail Lacquer:
The porcelain line is meant to mimic the glow of fine china. We hope it is available online soon. Meanwhile, the Essence polishes online are just $1.99 each with lots of color well worth exploring.
Essence Eyebrow Stylist Set:
A cute clear capsule holds two shadows of powder eyebrow shadow, 3 eyebrow stencils, and a mini-sized slant-tipped brush. Select the stencil shape you want, apply the shadow–voila! Travel-friendly, and you can use the shadows for your lids too in a pinch.
Rounding out the photo: Catrice Liquid Metal Eyeshadow ($4.99) in the color “Mauves like Jagger 080″ isn’t part of the Essence Cosmetics line. When we were shooting our Essence Cosmetics grouping it inadvertently was added incorrectly. e goofed and added it to our photo grouping. Then we realized that Catrice is a budget beauty line new from Europe that is also really affordable and trendy.
The shadow in our photo (under The Velvets Shadow by Essence Cosmetics) has a “lizard skin” embossing with glitter coating that gives way to a smoky mauve shadow that makes a modern smoky eye. It’s not all that “metallic” as advertised, but the smooth texture and long lasting, blendable and sexy color, sold us. For more on Catrice, click here.
