Fragrance for “hot” bodies! (when the weather heats up)
Fragrance lovers don’t give up wearing scent when the weather gets warm, they just change fragrances. The more intense perfumes that smell great when you’re cold, change character (and sometimes, not for the better) with hot skin. The best way to wear scent in Summer is with lighter, fresher fragrances, or fragrances notes that just work well with your personal body chemistry. Here are some fabulous fragrances that The Advice Sisters have selected specifically to work with “hot” bodies. They’re luxurious and elegant, gfit-able, romantic enough for brides and for all your special occasions to come this Spring and Summer:
Cartier: The name alone oozes luxury and glamour. Last year Cartier did a re-envisioning of the original Panthere by Cartier from the 1980’s with La Panthère EDP ($110 1.6oz, Macys.com) described as a “radiant floral accord, both magnetic and luminous.” This floriental fragrance has key notes of gardenia and musk, with a three-part accord of chypre, floral and musk. In fact, it’s a lighter and less oriental version of the original Panther perfume which I adored. But now, there’s a new and modern twist on the new version of the Panther perfume classic called Cartier La Panthere Légère Eau de Parfum Spray, 1.6 oz (srp. $102 at Macys.com). The nose that created this scent is also the in-house Cartier perfumer,Mathilde Laurent.
Cartier La Panthere Légère has as a star, a mix of tiaré and gardenia with musky accents. The fragrance takes the 1980’s Panther another step away the intense oriental spices and closed to a lighter and more feminine floral chypre. The gardenia is still very evident, and tiaré gives it even more romanticism. According to the press literature it is a “captivating fragrance revealing a free and passionate woman.” The Panthere woman is romantic (not a cougar either). She will smile and flirt, but she’s no pushover for a fast-talking Lothario. The floral accord is a mix of tiaré and gardenia with musky accents in which the gardenia and velvety notes of musk stand out, with just a hint of the tiaré flower coming through. It’s a bold choice of notes, because both gardenia and tiaré flower notes are strong and frankly, you may love one but not the other. Together, they work well. The romantic scent stays on your skin, but doesn’t overwhelm it. Perfect for date night and for brides who aren’t going to have time to re-apply a scent and want something spectacular. The faceted bottle looks like a jewel and, it’s spectacular too!
A bust of exuberant fruit from rose tinted juice rises to excite your senses, sprayed from an extraordinary star shaped bottle. That’s the first impression you get of the Extraordinary Petale by Oscar de La Renta, the new Vaporisateur Natural Spray 1.3 fl. oz. This new fragrance is a new take Extraordinary by Oscar De La Renta 2015. Crafted by IFF perfumers Carlos Benaim and Laurent LeGuernec, the light, fruited floral has some surprises. It begins with a literal bust of Bergamot Champagne enhanced with a vibrant Zesty Mandarin and Sparkling Aldehydes . The heart is a romantic bridal bouquet of Rose LMR, highlighted with luxurious hints of Orange Flower Absolute and bright Jasmine Absolute. But the bottom notes are sensual, with Couture Amber, creamy Vanilla Orchid Petals and a sheer veil of Radiant Musk. The overall effect is floral with a hint of musk, soft but not forgettable.
According to the press literature, the woman who would wear Extraordinary Petale is a “present-day ambassador of Oscar’s trademark joie de vivre and impeccable style. ” Just FYI, “extraordinary” is the word Mr. De La Renta loved to use to describe things of quality that he appreciated, and especially as the ultimate compliment to a woman. It is definitely a “happy” fragrance, uplifting, light and you can smell the “petale” in it. The original Extraordinary features a soft pink juice and a silver cap. For Extraordinary Petale, Creative director Peter Copping designed a hot pink cap atop the bottle with hot pink juice, hinting at the Oscar de La Renta Spring 2016 collection “combining the youthful femininity of translucent, botanical lace with the timeless elegance of vibrant color.” This would also make a lovely bridal fragrance, and a special occasion scent for a woman of any age who has elegance and joie de vivre. She may kick off her Louboutins before stepping delicately into a fountain at midnight, but won’t mind getting her hair and designer gown wet in the spray! Lovely Extraordinary Petale by Oscar de la Renta is available at Oscar de la Renta Boutiques, Macy’s, Dillards, Lord & Taylor and Belk (Extraordinary Pétale Eau de Parfum (90ml) – $88.00; Extraordinary Pétale Eau de Parfum (40ml) – $58.00

It’s heavier than some of the other fragrances but like a woman who is focused on business during the day, on drydown the softness and femininity of the rose makes it’s presence known.

It’s almost time for that playground of the rich and famous to open it’s door to the Summer crowd, polo matches, and glittering parties. What better scent to wear then, than a fragrance inspired by the beautiful beaches of eastern Long Island and the luxurious, elegant lifestyle that surrounds them. The Hamptons Sun brand of Suncare and skincare products is delightfully fragranced with the signature Hamptons Flower, the “Privet Bloom.” There is an accompanying fragrance as well, which is the perfect Spring and Summer scent both clean and green, with a hint of the floral privet bloom.
Privet Bloom begins with top notes of white florals of White Hyacinth, sweet and romantic Lily of the Valley, and Jasmine. The heart has Sea Spray: crisp, green sea and lively marine bursts, Dune Grass: a warm scent which captures the essence of the beach, and in the bottom, there is orange blossom and the namemsake of the scent, the Privet Blossom: a captivating white flower, plus the warm fruit of blue plum. * The rollerball has notes that are similar, but also listed on the notes on the Hampton Sun websites is gardenia instead of Blue Plum.
I tested the rollerball, a type of fragrance packaging perfect for popping into your weekend tote or purse. The scent is a happy one that even in hot weather is light enough to work with an overheated body chemistry. Wear it to your next outdoor wedding, or to the beach. Like a crisp linen sun dress, it works for everything. Privet Bloom is available in a 1.7 spray flacon for $68.00 or a .3 oz. roller-ball for $23.00 at the Hampton Sun Web Site
Claude Dir. Perfumer Mane and Creator of CLEAN Blossom is quoted as saying: “Blossom is based on one of my favorite flowers, neroli (orange blossom). Its distinctive aroma fills the air of my childhood places—the south of France, the French Riviera, and the Italian Coast—as well as my current home in Arizona. The name ‘neroli’ is a tribute to Princess Nerola, who made this flower essence famous by using it as a perfume at the end of the 17th century.”
Well, that’s certainly romantic, isn’t it? If you’re seeking a romantic but fresh floral for Spring and Summer, CLEAN Blossom delivers. The top notes are Tunisian Neroli, Seringa Petals HP, Yellow Freesia, with a heart of Orange Blossom, Rain Lily HP, Georgia Magnolia, Blue Dianthus, and a bottom of Skin Musk, Cotton Wood, and Sensual Sandalwood. The square. peach-tinted glass bottle with delicate floral design and tall silvery cap is light enough so that you don’t have to use it so sparingly, but it has some staying power, especially due to the bottom notes. When it dries down it leaves a floral bouquet that is feminine but in two words: “clean” and “feminine.” The CLEAN Blossom Eau de Parfum 2.14 oz. is $72.00; 1 fl. oz is $40.00.’ rollerballs are $20,00 for .34 fl. oz. and $10.00 for a .17 fl. oz. size.
