When Givenchy created a man’s scent call Pi in 1998, it invited men to go ‘beyond infinity.” Ten years later, Givenchy invites men who dream of the future as “Cyber-Travellers” to: “explore another place within the confines of time, space and matter, moving towards a fourth dimension” with a new interpretation of Pi called Pi-Neo Eau de Toilette $64.00 3.4 fl. oz; $47.50 1.7 fl. oz. (also a Roll-on Dodorant $18.00 and Soothing After Shave $45.00).
The scent, created by Givaudan’s Antoine Lie, was apparently named for the Keanu Reeves futuristic character (“Neo”) in the movie, The Matrix. Whether it is traditional or space age, or something else entirely, the fragrance is here today in 2008, and it it will capture your attention. It has smells good (and expensive), and has staying power.
The outer packaging compliments the futuristic theme, at first appearing to be a shiny, navy blue box with silver touches. From a distance, the box appears to be navy blue. Upon closer inspection you see pixellated graphic dots converging on a faraway point with an impression of light speed as if part of a sci-fi movie. The bottle inside is substantial, clear glass, glass bottle that looks like a pyramid, with a silvery Pi Neo logo captured on the front, left hand side. The silvery chrome ring top, shaped like an “Omega,” looks rugged and futuristic (flip it down to uncover the spray diffuser).
This manly fragrance starts with Italian bergamot and mandarin oranges — a start that makes it fresh and inviting. But quickly, you get neo-woodsy heart. There’s aromatic Cedar from Texas, but it retains just the clearest and best attributes of the wood. There’s Patchouli from Indonesia, stripped of medicinal, camphor qualities so it has the clearest attributes to display. The base notes are an amber aspect with vanilla that caress a man’s skin, adding a sexy drydown.
But that’s not all: the “futuristic” ingredients in the fragrance are three synthetic “captives” — the backbone” of the fragrance. They’re independent items, but they work together to help the scent retain a crisp, clean, almost refreshing feel. “Toscanol” is a sharp, cool, metallic note of anise; “Safraleine” enriches the woody accord with manly hints of leather, spice and tobacco; and “Cosmone” is a signature base note that with an ambergris aspect with a sensuality that influences all the other notes.
Givenchy has a long traditional of high-end luxury items. With natural and synthetic notes in harmony, Pi Neo moves Givenchy Fragrances light years ahead. For a discerning man, Pi Neo is the choice of holiday, 2008!
