FOR THE GIRLS AND WOMEN WHO DESERVE SOMETHING CUTE, AND COZY, BUT STILL SOPHISTICATED:
If there’s anything I hate, it’s cold ears!! Even though I have long hair, on bitter days, the cold makes my ears sting, and sometimes even throb. Covering your head and ears keeps your entire body warmer, too, but if when I wear a hat, my hair gets flat! Earmuffs are the perfect, cute and cozy solution. At a Winter preview for the Dorfman Pacific Hat Company event literally back in the dog days of Summer when it was searingly hot and it seemed like chilly days would never come, I spied these adorable plaid, faux fur earmuffs from Woolrich (suggested retail around $19.00) and instantly fell in love with them. What woman, girl or grandma wouldn’t want to wear these when the wind is blowing?. They not only keep your ears warm, they actually keep your hair from getting all tangled up in the wind. You can wear a hat or hood on top of them for double warmth, but for normal days walking around town, the earmuffs alone are sufficient, and they make a fashion statement, too! This set is not particularly padded at the top, but the earpads are soft and plushy and luxurious. The band is not adjustable, but one size will fit most adult heads. It’s made of 50% wool, 20% nylon and 30% acrylic. The ear muffs come in a few assorted colors in plaid patterns. Although Dorfman-Pacific doesn’t really have E-commerce on their web site, they will direct you to local retailers or websites that carry these, and you can find them on the Woolrich Web site: https://www.woolrich.com.
Teens are not the easiest people to buy things for, but any teen that loves makeup, jewelry, hair accessories, or little girly things, will be delighted when she opens up your gift and finds this adorable, hot pink, Caboodles “GoGetter” (srp. $9.97 ). The zippered mini train case from Walmart is smalll enough to fit in your carry-on but it is also sturdy enough to keep everything safe inside. It opens a ll the way around the top to reveal an interior mirror. Stuff if with the things you can’t stand to put in that stupid, clear quart bag, and pack it inside your checked bag. A teen will use it for her jewelry collection, hair accessories or other pretty things. .The one I got at the Fashion Week tents in NYC was pink glitter, but this train case also is available in faux patent pink. Of course, Caboodles has tons of other sizes and styles as well. It’s a great gift by itself, or put something else inside like a cologne, or a pretty pair of tech-touch gloves. For more information visit Caboodles.com or Target or Walmart

Scented soaps in pretty wrappings make little hostess gifts, secret Santa offerings, and can make more significant gift when given in multiples. One company with affordable, and beautifully scented soaps that also help hydrate Winter-dry skin with a powerfully-emollient cocktail of shea butter, olive, coconut, palm and essential oils, is the Soap & Paper Factory, with Anthropologie exclusives. While the solid fragrances and candle tins are $18.00, the the shea butter soaps are just $8.00 each, wrapped in eco-friendly parchment paper, and they’re available in three lovely scents: “Bella” , a fresh citrus with evergreen notes and a hint of sweet pepper; ” Midnight,” gardenia with jasmine for a sensual and feminine fragrance; and Close, an earthy fragrance of sandalwood, cedar and a hint of citrus. The latter is “holiday-ish” and fun for a guest bathroom or for a party, or just to get you in that festive mood and keep you there. The Advice Sisters almost never review children’s products, but a visit to the Nickleodeon Holiday Preview during Fashion Week last September left me feeling like a kid again. And while most of the items there really were for kids, these water bottles with Brita filters inside ($19.00 avg. price) are still great for kids and honestly, fun for adults, too. One (replaceable) Brita water filter in this BPA-free bottle can replace up to 300 water bottles (replace after 2 months or 40 gallons of water). Kids will love the designs, with the characters they know and love, but as an adult, why not add some fun to your own life by putting a Ninja Turtles in your tote (or Sponge Bob, Dora the Explorer. or these monkeys on your desk? Truly, they’ll make your day. The bottles are dishwasher safe on the top rack, and the tops come with a flip up “straw” that makes it ways to drink, safe to carry in your bag without spilling. The 15 oz. size is great for travel is is also lightweight, even when filled. You can find more kid-centric fun items at: http://shop.nick.com or visit Brita.com to learn more.
