Les Cinq Amandes features almonds, but not just any ordinary Jordan almond or chocolate candy you’d get in a wedding favor or a regular gift box of chocolates.
These are succulent, tasty, and enrobed in sugars, flavors, colors, and chocolates that delight the eyes and of course, your tongue. Les Cinq Amandes may not be a household name just yet, but this luxury confections designer is exceptional, featuring high quality European dragées, chocolates and custom gifts and favors from around the world.
At a holiday preview, editors were treated to a vertible treat for the eye, with sugar coated almonds of almost any color you might desire (and if they don’t have the specific color coating you want, they can make it), and a display of other candy delights (I tried quite a few and all I can say is that they were delicious), including: Artisanal Chocolates, Hand Painted Chocolate, Hand Wrapped Chocolate, Crazy Clusters, Truffles, Chocolate Covered Dragées, Chocolate Covered Nuts, Sugar Coated Dragées, Almond Dragées,Chocolate Dragées and Other Sugar Coated Treats,Specialty Dragées, items for weddings and events such as Renaissance Favors, Colorful Dragées Favors, Baguette Pearls, Lovely Little Things and signature gifts such as Corporate Gifts, Cocoa Books, Fine Boxes Special Prices, Custom Gifts and the ability to Create A Custom Box (*some of these on display included high quality art boxes with prices to match real art, but you can also get inexpensive gifts as well).
Lina Ariss-Abdo was inspired by her daughter, Lara, to start Les Cinq Amandes, and did so from her kitchen in 2007. The name, Five Almonds, is a nod to the mid-16th century Florentine Medici Family who introduced the dragées to all the Royal European Courts, at the wedding of Catherine De Medici in 1533. It was an instantaneous hit, and the dragée became a special candy for special occasions given in groups of five representing the five wishes for happiness, health, wealth, longevity and fertility – this tradition has spread and continues in many parts of the world. Lina updated the tradition by adding innovative flavors and colors of dragées, creating couture, modern and outstanding designs, and renewing the set of wishes to Peace, Health, Happiness, long life and of course, Love. So when you give a gift from this company you are not just providing something delicious, but also wishes for the things money can’t buy, throughout the year.
I can’t tell you how delicious some of these high quality almond and chocolate confections are…the printed page, the computer screen can’t convey it. But believe me when I tell you that there were unique flavors to entice everyone. But I think in this case some of the photos I took at the preview are probably worth 1,000 more words. Visit Les Cinq Amandes to see just some of the possibilities at various price points, whether you’re a bride to be, an event planner, or just someone who wants to give a very special gift — or a stocking stuffer. If you don’t see what you want you can create almost anything your heart desires.
