Pain. Everyone has it now and then. When your body is aching, heat can help. Brookstone’s Body Bean ($29.99) can help make the hurting, stop. The Body Bean  is a cordless, re-chargeable heating pad that deal with aching muscles and can even heat up chilly extremities. So comforting on a freezing cold day!  The quick, 15 minute charge-up time means your aches won’t have to wait for long to be pampered and soothed. Once fired up, the body bean keeps offering warmth up to four hours. The saline filled bean fits into a luxurious cover, and the bean design lets you curve it around your head or neck, or anyplace you need a little TLC.  This modern design looks so chic. The Body Bean is definitely not your mothers heating pad! There’s also a wall adaptor for warming, and unlike some “cozy partners” that might not recover so instantly, the body bean will be rarin to go again, when you recharge it! While a heating pad may not sound like such a sexy gift, trust me, a happy body is a sexy body!  Athletes and weekend warriors will love it, and so will everyone else. At under $30 it makes an affordable gift that will offer benefits for many years. Stock up at your favorite Brookstone store or at www.Brookstone.com

Glamour and romance can be yours for just $24.99 with this truly lovely, sheer dress-up wrap from Dress Barn. The “Wrapped in Roses” sheer wrap is available at your local Dress Barn store and at dressbarn.com.  I haven’t been to a Dress Barn in a long while, but after seeing this wrap in person, I realize I’ve been missing something great.  It’s worth a trip to one of the retail stores to stock up on one for you, a lot for gifts.  The 100% polyester wrap is wide enough to cover bare shoulders and arms to ward off a chill, but not cover up your party clothes underneath, and the long row of delicate, black flower “roses,” each petal rimmed with a subtle, silvery sparkle of metallic thread, picks up the light to add glam sparkle.  Dress up your weekday outfit for a quick glam touch for an evening out, or wear it as a very glamorous neck scarf, too.  Honestly, I felt so glam I felt ready to walk the red carpet wearing this shawl.  I admit that I had a bit of a bias about Dress Barn.  I thought the fashions would be a bit dated or dowdy, but I stand corrected.  Dress Barn is definitely worth a visit. This particular shawl really looks like you probably got it at an exclusive boutique, but for under $25.00 it really makes a big impression. Wrap it around anything from a LBD to an evening gown, and you’ll get an inexpensive, easy update.  Great for you for the holidays, or as a great gift.  Wrap one up for someone special! Visit you local Dress Barn store or http://www.dressbarn.com/

While candles are a traditional gift, they are also a “can’t miss” when you’re not sure of someone’s size or preferences. Let’s face it, everyone loves candles to set a mood, or just to cover up the cat box! SpaRitual’s Holiday 3-piece Candle Trio is just $36.00 for a beautifully boxed set of soy votives with 100% cotton free wicks. These are also environmentally friendly in recycled glass. Totally non-boring!  When you open the gold box you almost expect the gift of the Magi, and in a sense, you get it. Each of the three, ivory, hand-poured candles feature a different rare and exotic scent from SpaRitual’s essential oils.  The three votives feature a delicate design in a subtle taupe, along with the name of the scent, right on the top of the votive:  Close Your Eyes – featuring Geranium  (bursting with sexy spice); Look Inside – featuring Frankincense  (soft and spicy with a hint of exotic incense);l and Infinitely Loving – featuring Chinese Jasmine (rich and floral, sweet and spicy). These three are strongly scented so they’ll make it through the holidays and beyond, even if you don’t light them often. The waxes are Soy, Coconut, and Apricot waxes. Use the fragrant, melted wax for massage, if you wish. This is the type of gift you can give to anyone and they’ll know you selected something very special to make life more relaxing, gracious, fun, and beautiful.  SpaRitual fuses a mind, body, spirit connection with healing spa traditions to create a world of Slow Beauty. Specially sourced vegan, certified organic and fair trade ingredients from around the world are used to create SpaRitual products for body, hand and lifestyle.  These are not ordinary candles and they’re boxed and ready for a bow and a gift card. Opening up a new calendar is always exciting, because you never know what the year is going to hold. Putting up a new wall calendar is not just a welcome ritual, it is a sure sign that the new year has begun. Calendars make a great one-size-fits all gift, too. One that I particularly like for 2012 is a companion to the book: Unlikely Friendships – 47 Remarkable Stories from the Animal Kingdom, by Jennifer S. Holland (Workman, 2011). The book, which I reviewed in Julyoffers 47 seriously remarkable accounts of friendships among animals, with photographic evidence. The book isn’t fiction, it shows real and sometimes startling relationships such as a cat licking an iguana, a leopard sitting cheek to jowl with a serene cow, even a snake with a hamster. The photos and stories prove that under the right circumstances, not just people, but animals, will bond together in genuine love and support. The beautiful photographs and feel good vibe of the book i snow also in Unlikely Friendships 2012 Wall Calendar (Workman Publishing Ci, $12.99). The large, full color wall calendar will inspire you every single day of the year.
