The Strawberry Laser Can Help You Lose Inches In Just One Session
By Alison Blackman, Editor in Chief, advicesisters.com
Can you lose inches with a strawberry? A mere fruit can’t slim inches of your waist on its own but the Strawberry Laser certainly can.
I know, because I tried it.
The Strawberry Laser Lipo treatment is a non-invasive, fat burning, pain-free treatment that melts fat and inches within an hour. It was featured on the television shows EXTRA and The Doctors. It uses a cold laser that you can’t feel on your skin but that doesn’t mean it’s not working. As the cold laser beams penetrate the skin just deep enough to reach the layers of fatty tissue (9-13mm), pores form on the cells causing them to spill out. The water, Glycerol and fatty acids move into the interstitial space beneath the fatty layer in the skin and additional water, fatty acids and Glycerol spill out. The adipocyte (in other words, “fat” cells, shrink). This activity doesn’t affect other structures such as the skin, blood vessels or nerves. The lymphatic system then removes the fat through the liver and kidneys, where they are processed and removed by your body’s lymphatic system in the same way as fatty foods. Basically stated, you urinate them out.
The Strawberry Laser Lipo has been accredited by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These types of procedures can be expensive, and if you don’t know what to expect, maybe a bit daunting. I went to find out for myself what the Strawberry Laser treatment was like, and if it would work. Here’s how my Strawberry Laser Lip session at Medi Spa 44 (144 E 44th St, New York, NY 10017) went:
The Medi Spa 44 is a busy place with lots of treatments to try but I was immediately whisked into a quiet, semi-private waiting room, filled out a bunch of requisite forms, and finally was introduced to my Aesthetician, Carmen Fernandez, who was very reassuring. She took some basic measurements of my waist and hip area. I loosened my pants but otherwise was fully clothed and invited to lie on a table. Carmen answered all of my questions, and told me that she’d been working with this equipment since it was accredited for use, which made me feel a lot more confident about the treatment. One of the things I caution you as consumers,of any beauty or medical treatment, is to make sure that you know who is doing that treatment, whether it’s a laser treatment or an injectable, or something else. This is not a place to be shy so don’t be afraid to ask questions about qualifications and the procedure. Just because a sign says the venue is a spa or a salon, or even a medi-spa or doctor’s office doesn’t mean that the person doing your treatment is skilled in that treatment. If something or someone doesn’t seem right to you, walk away. The only thing that will be harmed is someone’s ego perhaps, but at least your body won’t be!
Obviously, I felt very comfortable with Carmen. She took a strip of paddles/conductors and affixed them in a long row with a velcro strap against my skin, with two electrodes placed against my groin area. Since we were focusing on the abdomen, the treatment is done is two parts, first the upper abdomen and then the paddles are moved down for another treatment. I think mine were about 15-20 minutes each. I lost track of time! I was given blue goggles to wear to protect my eyes from the laser, but mostly I just kept them closed. It was very pleasant, no heat, no cold, no noise, nothing much except a chance to relax. By the time the second treatment was over, I felt sleepy,
It wasn’t time to take a snooze! Then Carmen insisted I get onto a vibrating platform for another ten minutes and let it “shake” me from side to side. I am not sure if this is always standard procedure, but I think it was to wake up my bladder, which really, needed no coaxing. The vibrating platform is actually some kind of exercise device and I kept trying to keep my bent legs steady. Honestly, it wasn’t painful but all that shaking wasn’t particularly pleasant and I was more than ready for that to end. Afterwards Carmen took my measurements. I’m not sharing the numbers, but (in total) the loss was a whopping six inches!
The Bottom Line: I lost 6 inches overall in my first treatment, but did I really look any different? Yes. and no. My jeans felt a little looser and I felt great when I left. Alas, like the Zerona laser treatments I tried in 2010 for advicesisters.com (read my Zerona Laser treatment features), success was fleeting. I was given a “diet” to continue and more treatments were suggested. The diet was quite strict and I was traveling and couldn’t realistically follow it. In fair disclosure, I felt some mild pain in the area of my lower abdomen for a about a week after the treatment, which, since nothing else had changed, I attributed to the treatment. I wasn’t alarmed by it and it went away and didn’t return. I also didn’t return for more treatments.
So is it worth it? Yes, and no. The Strawberry Laser can help you lose inches in just one session. I know because I did it and I did lose 6 1/2 inches in one session. BUT: before you book and appointment, there are a few things to keep in mind. One is cost. The Strawberry Laser Lipo treatment costs around $1,600 for the eight FDA-recommended sessions for one area of the body, like the abdomen or back. At the MedSpa 44 a single treatment runs $250 and there are packages of 6-10 that run about $150.00 each. Obviously, a single session is just a pick me up and you shouldn’t expect a dramatic loss that will last.
And there’s more: I was handed a diet to follow. Like any other treatment, if you don’t follow a healthy diet and exercise, the fat will return and your slimming will be temporary. Looking at the diet, it was fairly spartan (e.g. a boiled egg and a piece of brown toast for breakfast, a fruit for a snack, home made soup or a salad with tuna/chicken or fish for lunch), sliced veggies or fruit for an afternoon snack no dip, fish or grilled meat and veggies or salad for dinner). No fat, sugar, nibbles, cream, fried foods, processed food, chocolate or alcohol is allowed. None of this is “bad” but if you go on a diet this strict, you will most likely lose inches without a treatment at all. I would like to say that I stayed on this diet, but I didn’t. I would suspect that a lot of people do the Strawberry laser hoping for a miracle, and then they go back to their old ways and the treatments go in the proverbial trash. You need to commit if you want to look fit!!!!
I would be remiss if I didn’t add that the Strawberry laser is one of those things that is gaining interest from men. For starters, they like a quick fix. Men will do something if it doesn’t hurt, doesn’t take long, and they can get a result that they can see without any stress. It’s an amazing return on investment for them if they stick to any kind of diet and exercise (see above).
I asked what was the most dramatic inch loss and I was told “one whole dress size” (after a series of treatments) but that isn’t typical. Still for doing nothing but lying on a table, even if it lasts for just a day or two, for those who can afford it, treatments like this are fabulous right before a special event. If I had to wriggle into a red carpet gown or another special event outfit, I’d so do this. But what seems like a miracle rarely is. This is NOT a substitute for lipo or a long term diet and exercise solution. To look your best before a big event, to lose a few inches before a honeymoon or because you really want to feel more confident before you start a new job, re-enter the meet market, or for any reason at all, it’s fine.
