Have a BALM-y Day: A Review of Three Special Lip Balms from Avon, Carmex and Lipzu
This feature is about lip balms. Not just any lip balms either. Each of these is uite different.
Avon’s got a new, beautifying lip balm with five gorgeous colors at an insanely great price.
Lipzu was created by a kid-preneur to remind us to be “kids at heart” (and still seriously protect our skin).
Carmex is our family-friendly lip that also has SPF 15 to protect our lips from the sun’s damaging rays, even when we’re under-water, (literally or figuratively).
The best part of this review is that none of these items costs more than a couple of dollars…so indulge!
The Avon True Color Lip Balm is a New Beauty “Find”
AVON is a color cosmetics and skincare innovator, and they’re come up with another winner: Avon True Color Lip Balm. These are exciting and really worth your attention so keep reading!
The Avon True Color Lip Balm is Avon’s latest and greatest, debuting now at an amazing introductory price of only $2.99 (srp. $4.00)
But that’s not the only reason to buy it.
Our lips need TLC along with color, and this budget balm beauty is formulated with Vitamin E. The balm feels soft and silky and very hydrating and that’s the main reason to use a lip balm in the first place, isn’t it? But this Avon True Color Lip Balm is also a bodacious beautifier. It’s available in five semi-sheer shades that offer build-able color: Cherry Kiss, Pink Pucker, Plum Passion, Peach Pout and Coral Crush.
I tried three of the five colors (see the photo above). All are pretty, but since I love red lipstick, Cherry Kiss, a bright red that leaves enough of a stain to go without additional lipstick, would be my first personal pick. The Plum Passion looks really dark in the tube but (no worries!) it’s really sheer so it leaves just a wash of color. The Pink Pucker is a bright pink but not garish, just a few shades more dramatic than most natural.
These are not organic or all natural or vegan (so if that’ is important to you, I suggest you look at all the ingredients here). What they do, they do exceptionally well. They keep your lips nicely hydrated and beautified with great color. For more, that’s the reason to buy them and wear them. Another bonus is that they are long lasting. The color in my test didn’t run into those tiny lines like a lot of tinted lip balms do. Also, these can be worn over or under another lip product to add hydration and a bit of shine. A Lip Balm for the Child in all of us (Created by a Child, No Less):
Lip balm isn’t a really serious topic, but keep your lips hydrated, is. So why would a child want to use a boring balm?
Well, some kids just have the knack of being creative.
For example, consider Daisy, the CEO of Lipzu. She is just 11 years old (she was 10 when she started the company). No, this isn’t a typo. Daisy looked at the effective but kind of boring lip balms adults make for themselves, and decided to make hers into adorable rolly-polly “animal pets” that beg to be carried in your purse or pocket.
The round lip balms are clear, and nurture your lips with 99% certified organic ingredients including Vitamin E, shea butter, and Jojoba Oil. They are also paraben and petroleum-free. LipZu comes in flavors such as peachy, minty tweetberry, cottoncandy, zesty, rosie and lemonpaw (just to name a few).
“Minty” a blue seal, with a slight minty taste, has been my little companion for a couple of weeks now, hydrating my lips whenever they feel dry, and I always crack a smile when I see him, but my lips, never crack!
“All of our pets came from our local humane society so I wanted to find a way to give back to them. I am really grateful for what they do every single day.” Daisy shares a home with her Mom, Dad, older sister and 4 pets – Squeak the bird, Liberty and Figaro the tabby cats and Huckleberry the dog. and a portion of your purrrchase helps the homeless (animals).
