4 fab products that will UPscale your skin
The Advice Sisters swear by drugstore brands, but we also love new and innovative products that help UPscale your skin. UPscaling skin means treating it with products that might be a bit pricey, they do very specific things, often with unique ingredients you won’t find anywhere else. Here are four for your face, that we’re loving right now:
No matter what the season, but especially when it’s hot and your skin is exposed to a lot more environmental saboteurs, lips can get dry and chapped. One effective way to smooth them out is with an exfoliator, but most of these are abrasive, so you’re literally rubbing the rough surface skin off. If you are not careful, you can do more harm than good, ending up with sore lips and skin that’s lumpy. However, there’s a “lip mask” that does the job a lot more effectively.
The Kaplan MD Perfect Pout Lip Mask & Lip Balm Duo ($23.00) hydrates, plumps and protects with mini-sized but fabulous products: exclusive to Sephora, this treatment for lips in a square, blue box contains the Kaplan MD Perfect Pout Lip Mask in a 0.32 sized mini jar (Step #1), and a 0.17 sized Kaplan MD Lip 20 Balm with SPF 20 in a tiny slant tube (Step #2) . *The Advice Sisters reviewed the full sized Perfect Pout Lip Mask in 2013 – read the review and our user experience.
To use this spread a generous layer of the Kaplan MD Lip Mask on your lips about half-inch beyond the natural lip line. You will feel a tingle because there are papaya enzymes in it along with 22 certified organic extracts (including marine collagen) to nourish and soothe the skin on and around your lips. Low weight hylauronic acid lets the product penetrate deeper into the skin to provide intense hydration at the cellular level, while the high weight hylauronic acid sits on the skin’s surface to instantly smooth, hydrate and plump the skin. Let the mask sit 3-5 minutes and then tissue it off to find smoother lips that make deeper (or any) lip colors look so much better. Immediately apply the Kaplan MD Lip 20 Balm to soothe and seal in hydration and also to protect that new skin on your lips from the sun’s damaging rays, with SPF 20. Before I forget to mention it, the products don’t ahve any sulfates, parabens, petrolatum and they’re gluten-free. This is especially good because we all end up ingesting at least some of what’s on our lips.
This is a great way to be introduced to the Kaplan MD brand of products. I am quite addicted to the Kaplan MD tinted Lip Balms and Glosses which add a finishing touch. Elegant and well worth your consideration is Teint Absolu Treatment Foundation, ($70.00 1.0 oz.) by Orlane. A visit to Orlane in Paris is the highlight of any trip, but the DIY home products are amazing, excellent, effective. Orlane is aleader in anti-aging skin care — on a personal note I have never tried an Orlane product that was disappointing. This Moisturizing treatment foundation has three levels of hyaluronic acids to deeply moisturize, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and help to re-define facial contours. A combination of vitamins B5, A and E strengthen while Ceramides-2-like antioxidants protect against harsh external factors and accentuate the skin’s barrier effect. As tp the feel of this, it’s lovely, lightweight and formulated with micronized pigments that add a light touch along with radiance, to even out skin tone and make skin look much better than bare. Orlane’s color matching effect blends the foundation into your skin so if you go a bit off on the color, you’ll still look fine. I tried the lightest:11 Beige Absolu: Naturalness and elegance for fair skin tones. There’s also 12 Beige Sable: Enhances tanned light skin tones; 13 Beige Dore: Gives a kiss of sunshine to olive skin tones; and 14 Beige Noisette: Brightens amber skin tones. The only thing that could make this better would be some SPF protection (although then I think it would be considered a CC Cream — it has all the other attributes)! Orlane is available in fine department stores and on the Orlane Official Web Site.
