Bombshell is a new line of hair foundations, thermal rollers, pinks and clips, all designed to help you get pro-style results, at home. I am particularly impressed with the Rubberized Bobby Pins and U-Pins that help secure everything from a chignon, to wayward bangs. These Bombshell products are coated with a no-slip technology that really grips hair (plain metal pins are way too slippery) and the coating comes in a variety of colors that blend in with different hair types. I love the fact that they come in sets of 10, in flat, cello-type packages that are perfect for travel. The cost? Just $1.79-$7.99 depending upon the style.
Another thing that’s easy to use, inexpensive to own, and indispensable if you really want a perfect bun, is a “donut.” I’m not referring to the type of sugary treat you get at the coffee shop. This donut is made of sponge-y material. It comes in large or small (the large opens and closes thanks to a large snap). Place your ponytail through the donut, or snap the large one around the base of your ponytail. Secure the donut with a few of those rubberized, U or Bobby pins, and then wrap your hair wrap hair around the donut form. Pin and tuck in the ends of your hair in and around the base. A large donut will make an impressively large bun, while a smaller donut makes a ladylike, ballerina bun. For more information on how to make a ballet-style bun, without the aid of a donut, check out a previous how-to I wrote on the subject of ballerina buns. You can certainly make a decent bun without the donut, but at just $4.99 for the smaller size (shown in the photo here) and $11.99 for the large one (which is about the size of a New York bagel), you will get a perfect result every time without a struggle.
If you’re going for an updo or bun, or even a simple, sleek look, you need a good brush as well as good styling products to tame those tresses into submission. One that is just $28.00 and will last, is the Hotheads new 3D Grooming Brush (that’s the green one on the far left), uniquely designed with three different bristle patterns to keep hair shiny, frizz-free, and smooth, and also exfoliate the scalp, improve circulations, and remove product build-up, dirt and excess oil. There are short, white boar bristles to control frizz and add shine and black boar bristles that grip for great smoothing, volume or curls, and then there are single-pinned, firm nylon with round tips grip all hair types. My hair is very thick, so most brushes don’t really hold the hair well, but this one gets the strands and holds them fast. Still, those bristles are gentle on your scalp and your hair won’t get stuck in the brush. I also like the smooth, curved handle that is easy to grip. Why just use a brush to smooth hair when you can use one that actually helps your hair health? Getting this multi-tasking brush might just be your next, “must-have.”
