Although the official start of Summer isn’t for a few more weeks, it feels like it is already here. A perfect fragrance to “let the sun shine in” every single day from now on until the Summer is gone (and into the Winter) is a sensational new scent: Bronze Goddess Eau Fraîche Skinscent $49.50 3.4 fl. oz. by Estee Lauder. Some say this limited edition scent is meant to be a replacement for the popular Tom Ford-designed “Azurée Soleil,” but I’d never call this sensational scent a “replacement” for anything! It’s a solo hit all on it’s own, without any additional association.
The clear rectangular bottle with shiny gold cap and an eye-catching bulls eye of orange, turquoise and beige, bears the “Bronze Goddess” name in the middle.
The scent itself is appropriate for summer–a “beachy gourmand.” While I usually think of some of the notes as being classic for cooler weather, this blend simply alights softly on your skin and blends with your body chemistry. Top notes are: coconut milk, sandalwood, vanilla, vetiver, myrrh (and that could be intense) but it is sassed up with a citrus heart of golden amber, juicy mandarin, Sicilian bergamot, lemon blend, and pulpy orange . The beachy, summer vibe comes from the subtle, caramel-y, creamy coconut, and a floral bottom of exotic Tiare flower, Jasmine, Magnolia petals, orange flower buds, and fresh lavender.
What I like so much about Bronze Goddess is that it really is unusual. It reminds me of some of the exotic, spicy, tropical scents you might find in Hawaii, instead of the light and fruity florals, or overly-vanilla-y or musk-y scents that are related, but not more than distant cousins. This one lands light as a kiss, and begs others to come closer, to take in the florals and spice. While it’s a bit hard to categorize, it’s definitely complex, subtle, almost buttery, delicious!
Although the scent lasts a long time, you can layer it with Bronze Goddess Scented Body Oil Spray $29.50 3.4 fl. oz. , alas, also a limited edition (so stock up). You’ll be reminded of the warmth of the sun, and a beautiful day at the beach, even when the ski jackets come out of storage. I’m not usually a fan of hydrating oils, but this one is great. The dry oil formula means it won’t feel sticky or greasy on your skin, but it will make even sun-parched skin feel soothed, hydrated, and smoother. It will also leave that lovely, sunshine-y scent to linger on your skin.
Spray Bronze Goddess on before you put on that sundress –you will feel like a goddess– bronzed or not.
