Although the company has stayed true to its original concepts and concise branding, it is constantly developing new products and staying current. Clarins has an almost dizzying array of products! In addition to maintaining a consistent level of quality, Clarins Laboratories was founded on the principle of taking beauty seriously by creating lavish products derived from plant extracts. For 20-somethings seeking the latest and hippest new thing, Clarins may not be the first product line that comes to mind, but perhaps it should be. There is a lot for women of all age to love in this brand.
For example, not all skincare is for the face. Even younger women want to create and maintain a firm and youthful, bust line and a toned body. Clarins’ “Tonic” Body Treatment Oil ($50.00 .17 fl ) is designed to firm and tone your entire body. Upon first glance, this adorable little bottle looks like it holds enough product to use on one leg, one time only. However, a little goes a very long way. The oil smells delicious and natural, formulated with geranium, hazelnut, rosemary (a key scent), sage, peppermint (also prominent in the product’s fresh smell), and rosewood. Each ingredient serves a specific function in soothing, invigorating, tightening, toning, and firming the skin. The recommended routine for this product is to apply it to damp skin after a shower or bath, concentrating on problem areas. Once the oil is completely absorbed, Clarins recommends taking a cool shower afterwards to maximize results. In the winter months, the cool shower is probably unnecessary, but the oil feels wonderful on the skin, and smells like an herb garden. When used sparingly, the bottle should last for several applications, and layers very well with almost any perfume, given its simple, bright aroma.
If the oil treatment is not enough to really target the “problem areas,” Clarins has designed a High Definition Body Lift ($65.00 1.06 oz ) to target hip and thigh cellulite. Their advanced formula is covered by three patents. Intended for daily application on any areas between your ankles and thighs that need a little extra attention, this product is intended to stimulate your skin into releasing excess fat. Natural ingredients in the Body Lift cream include blue button flower, sunflower, escin from horse chestnut, caffeine, and pycnogenol from maritime pine extract. These special treats from Mother Nature, in conjunction with what the smart scientists at Clarins create in a lab, all serve to smooth and firm your skin while visibly reducing signs of cellulite. The smell is a little strong, so this might be best used in the evening. What better time to work on your secret dimples than while you sleep?
As an extra bonus, there’s a product that protects and maintains the shape and firmness of the bust line. Bust Beauty Extra-Lift Gel ($58.00 .53 oz) is marketed as a “natural bra” for its ability to minimize skin slackening and revitalize elasticity. This light, gently-scented gel goes on cool and dries quickly, leaving no visible trace. It’s best used in the morning, concentrating on the bust support areas. Natural ingredients in this formula include oat sugars, oat kernel, katafray (a natural moisturizer), and vitamin E. *note; Marie Castano, Clarin’s “grande dame” who looks amazingly fit and whose skin is youthful and glowing, told editors that she has used this product for some time, and swears she doesn’t need a bra (but does wear one when appropriate). While it’s unlikely that you’ll want to ditch your underwire after using this product, it’s always nice to know that there’s a” little something extra” helping in our struggle against gravity.
Clarins’ Vital Light Day Illuminating Anti-Aging Comfort Cream ($85.00 1.7 oz ) is deliciously thick and creamy, goes on cool, and absorbs quickly. It’s not too heavy to use for hints of fine lines, but it’s targeted as an anti-wrinkle cream that plays with the skin’s ability to reflect light to give skin a youthful glow. The Vital Light cream harnesses the power of three plant extracts, all with international patents pending. Cochlearia officinalis & Waltheria work together to strengthen collagen and restore luminosity and Spergularia reduces the appearance of dark spots and unifies skin tone. It’s nice to know that these powerful plants are lending their natural street credit to the cream, but more than anything, it’s just a great moisturizer that strikes the perfect balance of being creamy without leaving any oily traces.
….and for any time you want your face looking flawless with a quick “pick-me-up,” there’s Clarins Beauty Flash Balm ($45.00 .53 oz.) It’s marketed by Clarins as a “pick-me-up” because it tightens and firms instantly. You apply this balm without rubbing it into your skin, and the key ingredients of witch hazel, elastin, milk proteins, and rice starch go to work immediately to create a short-lasting, subtle, and very effective mini facelift. It can be used before of after day cream, but works best as the last skin product used before applying makeup. It may not be something you want to use daily, but it’s a fantastic quick fix to throw in your bag on a night when you know the “paparazzi” will be focused on you.
