DEX New York, in the heart of NYC’s fashion district, was created by Dexter Phillip, a fashion stylist and image consultant. I first visited Dex Studios back in 2009, for an Unvogue Magazine photo shoot, and then I had the opportunity to see some of the company’s amazing mineral makeup at the Loris Diran Runway Show during Fall 2009 Fashion Week. I’ve been eager to try some of the products for myself.
Mineral makeup is usually marketed as loose powder in jars, but it can also be pressed or liquid. Dex New York has both pressed and liquid types. Dex New York Modern Minerals collection is a line of natural mineral based makeup that is Paraben-Free, hypoallergenic, not tested on animals and provides anti-aging benefits. The product range includes Loose and pressed Mineral eye shadows and foundations, Tinted Hydrators, Mineral Glow, Mineral Blush and Bronzers as well as Mineral Illuminators. Carrie Underwood, Kellie Rippa and Kim Kardashian are big fans.
I personally am challenged by loose powder makeup, but those who love it know that it’s gentle and natural, and feels light on the face. Mineral makeup is generally water-resistant, so it’s longer lasting, too. Minerals naturally scatter light, so they are deflected from the skin rather than absorbed by it, giving the user a more luminous look.
The Dex New York Modern Minerals Loose Pigment Eye Shadow $22/each comes in 22 different shades in every color of the rainbow (and then some). These are not shy colors, and while you can blend them out to be sheer, the color is fairly bold. The powder is also infused with advanced anti-aging technology – palmitoyl hexapeptide-14 that stimulates eyelids and allows for cellular turnover. Fun for Spring is LS-07 “St. Patricks Olive” a fresh, clear, Spring green that looks pretty on lids. You can’t go wrong with color this season. Check out the Dex NY Web site and pick a palette of colors to please!
I also tried some face products. One that I really think is impressive is the Dex Mineral Tinted Hydrator $22.00 in a nice, pump/squeeze tube. This multi-tasker is a foundation, sunscreen (SPF 20) and anti-oxidant lotion. It comes in four light to medium shades, and it’s sheer, but it covers small imperfections. Good for your skin ingredients include a Multi-Mineral Complex of Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium, Zinc, Lysine and other vital elements, plus anti-oxidants, Gingko Biloba, Ginseng, and Vitamins A and E, Protect. The product is water-resistant, and when it quickly dries, you won’t even remember you have it on. If you’re the type that refuses to wear sun block on a daily basis, this is one product you won’t be able to refuse or resist! The travel-friendly soft tube with pump and 1.25 fl. oz. size makes it a perfect travel companion, too.
For those who like loose powder mineral foundations, however, Dex New York has a good one, too. Dex Modern Minerals Mineral Loose Foundation $30.00 in ten shades arrives in the traditional shaker jar. It is good for all skin types, and also features anti-aging palmitoyl hexapeptide-14. The powder is loose and super-fine, and it covers just as much as a full coverage liquid or cream foundation would. A micronized blend treats and diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while helping to conceal skin imperfections. Non-irritating, chemical-free sunscreen protects against ultraviolet damage (spf 15). It definitely keeps Kelly Ripa’s skin looking fresh and smooth!
If these are any indication of the entire Dex New York collection, I’m dying for more!
