international adventurers, your quest for dual voltage, travel friendly hair tools is over!
We have reviewed plenty of lovely hair tools and heat stylers for hair for the Advice Sisters Beauty, Fashion and Lifestyle Website. The thing is, when you are traveling overseas, your favorite heat stylers and other types of electronic hair tools probably won’t work. You need dual voltage, travel-friendly appliances. Like unicorns, sometimes we think they’re almost mythical. Most of the heat styling tools we review, no matter the cost of the quality, are just made for the United States market. If you’re looking for a specialty item or a mini-sized one, dual voltage is amazing difficult to find. The good news is that we’ve found two companies, Head Kandy, and BedHead TIGI that do have dual voltage heat styling hair tools, and they’re nifty, new, unique and travel-friendly. Your quest for hair straightening tools that travel, is now over! The hair straighteners we’re reviewing in this feature are those you can use them internationally, as long as you have an external power plug adaptor. They’re travel-friendly, too. So few heat styling tools are dual voltage: 110V-240V. We simply adore this!
The Head Kandy Straightening Brush (srp. $59.95-$79.95) saves you a bit of space and a lot of time. The company was founded by hair stylist, Kayla McNeill and her husband. It lets you quickly and easily brush your hair and straighten out the waves and frizz in one step. We’re suggesting Head Kandy’s straightening brush for yourself or perhaps for the upcoming Mother’s Day as a treat in teal, limited edition Apple Green, and Stole My Heart Pink. If you like it a lot, Head Kandy will be producing even more products on the way this Spring 2016.
The idea is simple: plug in the brush, press the power button (a nice lighted panel springs to life). Choose the temperature you want up to 450 degrees (easy to see on the lighted panel),. brush hair. The rubber bristles massage as you brush, too. According to the Head Kandy website, the ceramic ion brush increases natural shine and seals the hair cuticle reducing frizz. A long swivel cord and auto shut off are important benefits. The suggested heat sets are auto keep constant temperature at 365℉ for all types of hair, 410℉ for naturally textured hair and 450℉ for thick or wavy hair. The latter two are quite hot (use heat protectant spray first) but if you were using a flat iron with these hair types you’d probably need that much heat as well.
Leave your paddle brushes at home, just take this heat styler and you’ll always have smooth, frizz-free hair. However, keep your expectations reasonable. The Head Kandy Brush Straightener is not a flat iron nor is it a substitute for blow drying your hair. I see it more like a finishing device for smoothing frizz, and ironing out kinks when your hair if it’s been messed up a bit from sleep, rain, humidity, travel, etc. In my test, I ran the brush over my already washed and dried and flat ironed hair that had been frizzed up a bit from a restless night’s sleep. The Head Kandy Brush Straightener worked well to smooth out the kinks really quickly when normally I’d have used a brush and a flat iron. This time, all I had to do was run the heat brush through my hair with a couple of passes, and I was good to go. If your hair is really curly and thick, it cuts down on straightening time with a flat iron too. It’s a good tool to start younger girls off with since the plates are not as exposed as a flat iron’s. A BIG plus is that this is dual voltage for overseas use. Get yours at
Bed Head Minis are Mighty: There is no doubt that flat irons are the “steamrollers” of choice for ironing out kinks, frizz and unwanted waves/curls. But when you’re taking a flat iron to the gym, or away for the weekend, toting a big flat iron may not always be your tool of choice. enter Bed Head Minis. Bed Head has introduced a line of there ceramic flat irons that have full power, but half the size in length. They heat up to 400 degrees, and can be stashed into their nifty, heat-resistant drawstring pouch.
We tested the Bed Head Attitude Overhaul™ Pinkaholic Mini Ceramic Straightener ($19.99). Looking at it initially you might think “How is this 1″ mini going to work on my long, thick, curly hair?” It will, as long as you section your hair to use it effectively. That’s because although the plates are a full 1″ they are shorter than a normal flat iron, so you can’t use as much hair in it in one pass. You give up a bit of speed if you’re used to a fast swipe one and done, but for the compact size of this mini flat iron (approx. 7″ from, tip to cord) that literally fits in a small purse, that’s hardly a deal breaker. It heats up hot, and fast and goes with you everywhere leaving room for lots of other things and reducing the weight in your luggage. The Green Bed Head Line Up is a 1/2 inch size which we didn’t test, but we’re assuming both it and the Bed Head Power Lift 1/2″ crimper are both just as effective to take on the road with you. A BIG plus is that these are automatic worldwide dual voltage for overseas use so you’ll never be without straight shiny frizz-free hair again when you’re overseas.
