These new scents are a re-imagination of Emilio Pucci’s iconic Vivara fragrance that he introduced way back in 1966. It is also the name of a re-invented version of the fragrance from 2007. The name VIVARA, I’m told, comes from the rugged island near Capri which inspired the affection and creativity of the couturier.
The three Eau de Toilettes of Vivara Variazioni were created by François Demachy, Senior Vice President, Olfactory Development for Perfumes – LVMH, in close collaboration with Annick Ménardo, Louise Turner, Michel Girard and Christophe Raynaud. They’re also a tribute to Capri with scents that capture the sun, the water, and the sand. Even the beautiful (and collectible) Vivara bottles are a nod to their individual aspects of the island. The bottles look to me like 60’s style mushrooms, sort of pop-art-y. They’re very tacticle. You see them and you want to pick them up and nestle them into your hands. The colorful lids are in Pucci prints featuring marine blues, sunny yellows and sandy oranges. Each of the Vivara Variazioni fragrances are also slightly tinted so the “juice” shines through the oval facets of the bottles.
Here’s a bit more of a breakdown on what you can expect in each scent. You can wear these individually, or layer two or all three for your own signature:
Yellow-themed SOLE 149 is an aromatic floral– a “sunny” that has an unusual top note: tomato leaf. And you can really sense a “green” or garden scent. There’s also galbanum, with a heart of sambac jasmine and a base featuring vetiver and a hint of patchouli.
Blue themed Acqua 33- is a marine scent with a hint of floral that you sense immediately from the top note of violet leaf, a floral note that resembles the coolness of water, with the water theme strengthened by an aquatic accord. The heart has jasmine and frangipani flower, tinged with “salty” ntoes of iodine, while the base has musk. I’m sure there is more in there–the scent has a lot going on, but it is mysterious and ever-changing, like the sea.
As dazzling as sunlight in the middle of the day”
“As refreshing as the sky’s shimmering reflection in the sea”
“As enchanting as the sunset over sandy horizons”
