When I think of neon, I think of pop art, the ’60’s and colors so blinding you need shades. But Essie’s Make Some Noise “neon” Collection for Summer, 2015 isn’t anything like that. The colors are bright, but not blinding, in cheerful but wear-able shades that would even inspire Pop Artist Extraordinaire, Peter Max! Wear these to the next festival and be a “flower child” made modern!
Check out the photo above of the entire collection on my hands (I did this look for review purposes, but it was kind of fun!) and the bottles in the collection above. The Essie Make Some Noise Collection satisfies your wish for Summer brights, for and inspiration (make combinations as I did, and use them for Nail Art). Some of the shades are more opaque than others. The greens and blues slide on with just one coat, and they lasted. My favorite? Lime green, of course! But if you want something more subtle, try the light pink on my pinkies called: “Groove is in the Heart.” If you love the purple and hot pink, be prepared to put on two coats, or more. The result though, will be fun nails all Summer long!

When you are newly engaged, or it’s your wedding day, you don’t want your nail polish to compete with the hand the holds The rings! But you do want nicely polished nails. Save the brights for the honeymoon — brides prefer pales on their nails! The Essie Bridal Collection for 2015 gives anyone who wants subtle color and lots of shine, a half dozen beauties to choose from in the palest shades from nearly nude to lilac, caramel and pink.
I have tried all the colors on my own hands as you can see in the photos above. All the shades are super sheer, which means if you want a wash of color, a coat will work, but if you want the color to show, you will need two coats. The most noticeable of the Bridal Collection colors (after two coats is the lilac “Hubby for Dessert,” but even with a couple of coats your hands will still look demure.
But note my thumbs! There are two brights in this collection to slide on after the ceremony and reception are over. “Brides No Grooms” is a bright hot pink that can be swiped on with one opaque coat, but do use two for additional depth. My favorite (for anyone, not just brides) is “Happy Wife Happy Life,” a bright orange that looks simply sexy for that honeymoon or beach vacation this Summer, Add a clear top coat for extra shine.

Essie summer nail collection. Pinky to thumb: Pret-a-Surfer, Saltwater Happy, Chillato, Peach Side Babe, Sunset Sneaks
Stop The Presses! Just as I was finishing up this feature, I received yet another fantastic collection of Nail Polishes from Essie. The Essie Summer 2015 Collection is a rainbow of sun, sea and sky colors perfect for fingers and toes, no matter where you go. Inspired by the longer days that let you have longer nights,, these day to night polishes are perfect for your weekend or your work-week. As with the Make Some Noise Collection, some of the colors are more opaque than others. I’m not a nail tech and I dashed these polishes on my hand, taking a shaky selfie, so I could add them in time for this review to publish on time. The two Blues, “Saltwater Happy” (a light soft blue) and “Pret-a-Surfer” (creamy marine blue) plus “Sunset Sneaks” (creamy coral-y red) are the most opaque, if all you have time for is one coat and go! I love lime green so “Chillato” is my Summer pick, but you need several coats. “Peach Side Babe” is a light peach that’s perfect for days when you need to be more “demure.” “The creamy white “Private Weekend” is really best for tips and nail art, but I used it as a base for a lot of overlay coats that are so popular now. Just use a steady hand and let the polish dry enough between coats so that if you add overlays, they won’t get gloppy and refuse to dry properly!
All Essie nail polishes are DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde free and each bottle is $8.50 available at your favorite nail salon, target stores and Essie.com
