That’s why I was really surprised, in a good way, to learn about the Febreze Home Collection from Procter & Gamble. I have seen Febreze in a spray bottle, advertised on television, to get “odors” out of your home. But this new home collection consists of a re-useable votive lamp, a soy candle on a wooden base, a glass bottle of scented oil with diffuser reeds, or a spray can of scent.
I tried the re-useable votive. On the surface, it looks like a spa-style luminary on a square, wooden base, with a paper shade. But this votive doesn’t use flame or candles, it is a battery operated light. There’s a decorated, paper shade that fits over a pyramid-shaped light rising out of the base. When you turn on the light( it uses two AA batteries) and place the shade on the base, the light immediately activates and flickers like a real candle. And there’s another surprise: the paper shade is permeated with scent, so as the lamp heats up the scent is diffused throughout your room.
The scents are not the usual ones, either. I tried the Green Tea Citrus scent–a mellow blend of soft citrus with the distinctive scent of green tea. It definitely did not smell like the supermarket brands I’ve smelled in the past. The other scents are more sophisticated, too: Willow Blossom (leaf buds, citrus fruits, muget and violet, and musk, sandalwood, and cedarwood); Pomegranate (pomegranate, melon, floral notes); Caramel Crisp (Macintosh apple, caramel, cinnamon and clove); Orchard Cider (apples, sinnamon, nutmeg and cloves); and Vanilla Frost (vanilla with sheer florals, spice, coconut and peach, plus jasmine, lily, musk, cedarwood and amber notes). Each shade features a different design to match the scent–pretty!
The votive diffuser is re-useable. Simply purchase a refill packet in whatever scent you desire, rip open the envelope, unfold the square paper shade, and place it on the lamp base to start scenting your room again. You’re supposed to change the shade every week to keep the scent strong, but depending upon how much you use it, one paper shade can last longer than that. The flickering light really looks like a scented votive luminary, but this one “burns” without the fear of flame – particularly great if you have small children or pets running around.
