Scent is something that everyone likes to give and get, but mostly, we think of scent-ables as being gifts you spritz on your body. Here are four scentSational gifts of fragrance for home, not skin. These are unique, and budget friendly, too!
There are the candles you can give to just anyone, and then there are some candles that are reserved for very special friends, a girlfriend, boyfriend, or lover. One such candle company that I have fallen in love with myself, is Diamond Candles Ring Candle ($24.95) (see our previous review of Diamond Candle by typing “Diamond Candle” into the search box on the upper right hand side of this page). Let one of their candles that contain a costume jewelry ring embedded in the wax say: “you warm my heart” or “you set my heart on fire” with one of their special ring candles. The Advice Sisters reviewed one of these deliciously scented Diamond Candles for Halloween that smelled just like candy corn, and there are plenty of other fragrances and themes, but there are a couple just for the Winter Holidays, too, such as Christmas Tree. The bright green candle in the tall glass votive (with nice rubber stopper in the top to keep the scent fresh) will scent your home for weeks with a lovely pine fragrance….not a knock-your-socks-off like air freshener scent either. The scent is light and refreshing, almost herbal .
As a gift in itself, the candle is well worth the nominal $24.95 but with the added excitement that something even better – a ring– is hiding inside, it’s really two gifts in one. Every Diamond Candle hides a special ring (in popular sizes 6 and above ), valued between $10 and $5,000! If you discover a 14k symbol inside the band you got the real thing (I haven’t yet, but the rings are really quite nice as costume jewelry goes). You can normally “unearth” the ring in about two hours burn time, (you can see a little foil circle near the top of the candle from the outside, to let you know when you’re getting close to the foil packette inside).
Once you see the foil exposed, use a pencil or something with a tip, to lift the foil bag out of the candle. The 100% soy candles will burn for weeks, maybe months depending upon how often you use it.
For the holidays, you can also try the Winter Festival Ring Candle A blend of spiced fruit, crisp citrus, fresh cinnamon and clove balanced with a subtle hint of winter sage and rich woods. Fresh Snow features holiday-centric Peppermint, patchouli, and eucalyptus– and there are plenty of other holiday scents as well. Home Scents don’t just fragrance the air. Something new and unique that is great for holiday gifting, but also to wow your own guests this season, Botanical Essence Sprays for Chefs from Natural Perfumer Mandy Aftel add scent and taste to your food and drinks
Not too long ago The Advice Sisters featured Mandy Aftel and her all natural fragrances (for your body) on our website. We were particularly excited about her unusual, small-batch fragrances made in both solid and liquid form from her Berkley, Calfiornia Studio. However, Mandy also creates a line of botanical essences for chefs and we were excited to try them, so Mandy graciously sent us one of her most popular — her Fresh Ginger Essence Spray ($22.00), with essential oil from Indonesia.
The idea of spraying an essence on your food is just a new way to take an herb or another item you’d normally add to food, and concentrate it. The spray is just an easy way to control how much you add at one time. The Fresh Ginger Essence Spray, for example, is intense and smells so good and gingery and fresh, you might be tempted to wear it. I have heard a few sheepish comments that a few people have actually done that (it certainly won’t hurt you, but these really are meant to enhance your food– for Mandy’s fragrances, visit Mandy Aftel’s web site).
The sprays are diffused in organic grain alcohol, you simply spritz it on your good, or in your cocktails. There are 230 + sprays per bottle. Try some to liven up a soup, a salad, or I like mine spritzed on a martini. Of course there are plenty of other sprays from blood orange to herbs, and you can use them as a substitute for the fresh ingredients. The sprays run $16-$24 depending upon the essence being features. Check out Mandy’s Chefs Essences here and be sure to check out some of the suggested recipes that go with each! *you can also get dozens of chefs essences in bottles )$12-$24). Be sure to visit Mandy Aftel’s web site and check out all her amazing fragrances, as well…they make amazing gifts.
Budget Minded? You might be amazed at how great the Airwick Candles from the Good to Be Home Collection ($4.99 each) smell. The graphics on the front of the jars are beautiful, and if you didn’t know these were under $5.00 you probably wouldn’t believe it. For example, you will delight the kids with the candle in Frosted Vanilla & Cupcake Delight that will make peoplel happy at any price let alone just $4.99 (no, it’s not a typo). The clear glass votive with shiny top contains a creamy vanilla tinted candle that smells sweet and soft, like vanilla cupcake. It contains natural essential oils and will scent your home with the smell of delectible edibles, even if you never bake a thing! While I personally found it sweet, you will enchant your children with it. For more adult noses there is also Evergreen Adventure (the smell of pine and Christmas trees) and Mrs. Claus’ Apple Pie (baked apple and warm spices). There is a playfulness about these candles that may be budget priced but smell like premium. They’re available at Walmart but you’d better hurry because they’re going to be snapped up quickly. — there is a yfulness about it that will delight young and old.
Candles make an ordinary event more special, and they set a mood. They are a safe gift of scent, especially when you don’t know someone’s size, or specific interests. But a really nice candle that is eco-friendly, is the kind of gift hipsters and milennials really love, such as this amazingly great smelling candle from Pacifica which comes in different sizes to suit different budgets. The beautifully boxed 3 oz. candle is just $6.00! But you can also get this scent in non votive pillar candles: ($8, $16 and $22). Clean-burning, natural soy wax with lead-free cotton wicks.
The fragrances in these candles are made with plant aromas and pure essential oils – no phthalates or other known carcinogens. For those who generally can’t deal with scented candles because they are allergic to commercial fragrances, these are a safer choice. Pacific products are also environmentally responsible, with no animal testing.
I chose this softly scented sandalwood candle as the perfect unisex choice. it’s fragranced with Pacifica’s signature perfume blend of Indian Sandalwood with top notes of Tangerine, Sweet Orange and Mandarin. For those who need to know, it is 100% vegan. Pacifica has literally, dozens of different scents of boxed votive candles. Check out everything for home and beauty on the Pacifica Web site. The Advice Sisters are big fans of Pacifica’s cosmetics as well (type “Pacifica” into the search box on the upper right hand side of this page to see what else we love from this brand). You are sure to end up purchasing some lovely things for yourself, as well.
