There was a time, not too long ago,
when nearly every woman on the subway in NYC, or walking to work in a gleaming
high rise, or pushing a cart in the supermarket, was wearing one of the
hottest, new scents around: Giorgio
Beverly Hills. This fragrance became so
popular, it seemed like all of New York city was bathed in it.
Created in 1981 by M.L. Quince, Francis
Camail, Harry Cuttler M.L. Quince, Francis Camail, it brought
the glamour of Rodeo Drive to women who might never actually get there. The
white and yellow striped carton was a beacon, enticing women to indulge in
luxury, if only a little bit. The powdery
floral was powerful, but so pleasing you could really smell it as a woman
walked down the street. As far as I can tell, it’s the kind of fragrance that
everyone liked, and no one wrinkled up their nose and the ninetieth woman
walked by them and Giorgio Beverly Hills, wafted by.
a while, instead of dreaming of
shopped there. A ton of
indistinguishable, fruity floral celebrity scents arrived. But Giorgio Beverly Hills by the house of Elizabeth
Arden is still a lovely, distinctive fragrance that will wow new, young fans,
and still delight its original ones. You
can’t help but think about where you were and what you were doing when you
first smelled this now, iconic, fragrance.
450 precious ingredients. That many florals could make it smell old fashioned,
but there bottom notes are sensual, and at dry down the fragrance is almost
powdery, inviting you to come closer.
The top key notes are Orange Flower, Bergamot, with a heart of Tuberose,
Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Gardenia and Sensual bottom notes of moss, Patchouli, Sandalwood,
Cedarwood and Vanilla. The jasmine and
the sandalwood are the notes that my nose discerns most quickly. But everything
blends together to create a scent that is utterly feminine – no man would ever
want to wear it, but he’d like it mixed with his own scent on his skin, or on
Moisturizer with Vitamin B5, to aid in the natural moisture renewal process
of the skin, and a Body Wash that has s Vitamins A and E to help keep skin
supple and soft. Because this is a
powerful fragrance and a little goes a long way, the Body Moisturizer and Body
Wash may be all you need to enjoy
Giorgio Beverly Hills, but the fragrance, in it’s clear, Rubenesque bottle with
faceted gold top, will beg you to spritz just a bit more.
