Review: It’s Not At all Hard to Really Love Beauty Products from Hard Candy Cosmetics
Hard CandyCosmetics is one of those beauty finds that you can’t help but love…a lot. The products are high performance. The colors are always on-trend. And the prices are budget friendly. It’s just so easy to fall in love really hard, for Hard Candy Cosmetics. Here are three new essentials we really think you’re going to love, and none of them are over $8.00!
Learn to Sculpt Your Face with a Nifty & Thrifty Hard Candy Kit!
Let’s start with the very nifty (and thrifty) Hard Candy Look Pro! Ultimate Contour and Sculpt Face Kit ($8.00). Contouring is an art, and it takes practice. You don’t want to use up a lot of super-expensive cosmetics to learn how to sculpt skillfully. The LookPro! Ultimate Contour and Sculpt Kit gives you everything you need to sculpt, shape, and slederize your features, flawlessly, in colors that are completely coordinated. It is so affordable, you can practice again and again until you have perfected your technique, without worrying about “wasting” products.
Since one size does not fit all when it comes to contouring, the kit comes in a Light to Medium set and a Medium to Deep kit. Each kit comes with a really nice “vegan” dual-ended brush. This brush has a small, rectangular bristles to evenly disperse and powder, and the other end features a slated, slightly rounded bunch of tight bristles for cream application.
On the back of the kit there is a “Tutorial Guide” which could use a bit more information, but it does have a color coded chart that visually shows where you place the various products.
How to Sculpt Your Face in Five Steps:
How much or how little sculpting you want to do is up to you, but basically there are five steps for the full face sculpt.
Step One is a Prep Step, a powder you apply under (and inside) the eyes.
Step Two is a cream brightener for the cheeks
Step Three is a cream contour (in our Light to Medium Kit this appeared deep, but it is meant to be well blended). For this step you need some practice. The contour is applied and well blended to the sides of your nose, eyelids, and under your cheek bones. Add too much as you look striped, like an actor from “Cats.”
Step Four consists of a powder blender about a 1 1/2 shades lighter than the contour to apply to your hairline and cheek bones. Again, this takes some practice. I’d consult a video or two to see just how much to use and how to appy it skillful
The final Step consists of an illuminating powder, meant to be applied to the center of your forehead, bride of your nose, your lips and your chin.
If you do all of this correctly, you should have a modern, sculpted look. However, all of this takes some practice. I’d consult a video or two to see just how much to use and how to apply it skillfully.
Whether you sculpt a little or a lot, there are two additional “finishing touches” I think are essential. One is a great mascara, and the other is a fabulous lip color. Hard Candy has those, too!
A Unique Mascara:
Biggest Fan Volume & Effect Mascara ($6.00) is just another in a line of great mascaras from Hard Candy. This one features a brush with an unusual shape. It too, is “contoured.” The brush fans out in an arch on one side with a row of combs to get every lash coated, but it also what looks like a dual row to lift & fan out lashes so they don’t clump.
In our test we needed a couple of coats of “Carbon Black” to get enough volume, but the mascara wand worked amazingly well to separate each lash and instantly, dramatically lengthen them without clumping.
For Lips, the Loveliest Liquid Lipstick:
I couldn’t believe how much I loved the Hard Candy Velvet Mousse Matte Lipcolor ($6.00) in bright red “Tulip” when I reviewed some exclusive to Walmart Hard Candy products last April on advicesisters.com. Packaged into a re-useable tin with an interior mirror is an intense liquid lipstick in a unique, flattened oval wanded tube. The lipstick smells like birthday cake, and the intense color slides on flawlessly.
While the formula is moistly matte, it won’t dry out lips. Even when the lip color is gone, you’ll get a bit of a lasting stain, but the color does transfer so be careful when blotting on a napkin, eating, kissing, etc.
There are 7 colors: bold red Tulip, plus nude Daffodil, three pinks: Sweet Pea, Hibiscus, and Cherry Blossom, and two deeper berry tones: Dahlia and Wisteria. For Summer, Cherry Blossom is a deep warm rosy cherry berry that goes with everything and looks sexy but ladylike (an alternative to a big bold red) for special occasions.
The Hard Candy Collection is sold Exclusively at Walmart. You can also learn more about Hard Candy Cosmetics on their web site
