It’s easy to fall in love with pretty, girly things full of whimsy and glamour, and that’s just why The Advice Sisters loved Jessie Steele’s pretty girly things at affordable prices. A few years ago we gushed about their aprons and pajamas in adorable prints, with cute embellishments, and the way they make everyday items not just practical, but so pretty.
This season, the company has added a bunch of new product categories including fun and feminine iPhone cases: with sparkling rhinestones and cute prints (e.g. luscious pink cupcakes); Charms: to use as a keychain or to hang on your handbag, featuring enamel and rhinestone details, plated with 18K gold or sterling silver; Scarves: l 100% viscose and featuring a custom crochet cotton trim — these over-sized scarves can also be worn as a wrap; Pillows: Jessie Steele brings their new burlap series out of the kitchen and into the home with over-sized bow pillows; Jeweled Compacts: large mirrored compacts have enamel and rhinestone details to dress up “date night” or any touch-up time; Cosmetic Bags: padded 100% cotton with non-toxic wipe clean EVA coating featuring grosgrain bows and flirty details.
I think the reason Jessie Steele’s little goodies appeal so much is because they are not just luxuries, they’re practical luxuries. You can give up the guilt, and enjoy the “gilt,” because you’re getting things you need, And I really think another piece of the appeal is that Jessie Steele brings back joy in simple things. If you want to know what I mean by this, consider the video I got friend of her newborn baby girl. The baby is laughing at the word “Achoo!” over and over again. The look on both the mother’s face and the baby’s face is pure, simple joy All that was needed to produce this joy was the sound of a mother’s voice, and a baby’s smile. We might not all be able to approximate that every day, but you can get some of that simple joy when you exchange the purely functional for something that is really pretty. In fact, Jessie Steele’s motto is “Bring Happy Home.”
Just to give you an idea of the types of things you can get (besides the hostess-wear and PJs), I sampled the Compacts ($22.00/each). Beauty editors get a lot of these, usually at lounges during Fashion Week and in gift bags. But they’re usually thin, functional, and have someone’s company name and nothing more on them. The big pink enamel compact I received from Jessie Steele to wear test has a mound of creamy pearls and rhinestones pile high on the lid like the topping on an ice cream sundae. When you take it out of your handbag, the rhinestones sparkle. The interior mirrors are very clear (one 2x magnifying). Another style has a smooth, inky black (or red) enamel lid, ringed with two rows of rhinestones, It’s perfect for date night when you want to touch-up and feel special. *if I have only one request, it would be for Jessie Steele to add a pouch with the compacts, because they are heavily embellished and could use a bit of protection.
Everyone needs a keychain, but one that makes a statement is so much more satisfying! Jessie Steele’s keychains are called “Charms” ($22.00/each) because each has a substantial, embellished charm as well as a round keyring and a big lobster claw clasp. You can use these as a purse decoration as I did, or simply put your keys on them and enjoy the “pretty” every time you reach for your keys. These are beautifully made, and look like they should cost a lot more than they actually do. I wore the cherry keychain on my purse for several months, and it got banged around, especially while I was at Fashion Week. Not a single stone popped off, and nothing dented or scratched. The charm/keychain still looks like new. Get the bow or the heart for your BFF, the airplane for your favorite road warrior, the hair dryer for that beauty diva!
When it comes to fabric, Jessie Steele has prints to die for. Scarves as this season’s must have fashion accessory, and a scarf is a one size fits all gift that can’t fail to please. The Cream and Black Polka Dot Scarf ($40.00) that Jessie Steele sent me to wear test, works as a scarf, a wrap and as a belt. While I’m not a polka dot fan, this oversized scarf, perked up with a wide border of right pink lacey crochet, adds a whimsical touch to everything from a coat, to a sweater. You can wear it as a pareo over your swimsuit and then as a wrap at night, when you’re on vacation, too. Any one of the four different patterns will make someone very happy this holiday season.
There are so many cute things on the Jessie Steele website: http://www.jessiesteele.com/ I can’t put them all down in photographs, so go shopping and make yourself feel happy just window shopping. And DO get a few things for yourself, and for those special women and girls in your life now that the holidays are almost here.
