There are some works of art that are completely iconic, and when you have a chance to see one it really sticks with you. I will never forget seeing the stele of Hammurabi at the Louvre or Whistler’s Mother when it visited the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville. Recently, I had the opportunity to see some of the iconic rock and roll photographs of Joel Brodsky at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in SoHo (116 Prince St, New York, NY 10012 – (212) 941-8770).
Brooklyn born Joel Brodsky is best known for his photography of musicians, particularly his album covers and iconic photographs of Jim Morrison and the Doors, many of which are currently on display at the Morrison Hotel Gallery right now, along with the Brodsky’s images of Isaac Hayes, Booker T and the MGs, among others. And while the price of the original photographs (between about $8,000 and $12,000 depending on the subject), may not be in your budget, more affordable prints are available too, including prints of the famous “Young Lion” photographs of Jim Morrison. But if you want to see this particular exhibit, get there before “the music’s over ” (exhibit runs March 26th to April 14th, 2015) and the next exhibit starts!
