I wrote the review for the KISS InstaWave below in 2015. It’s a tool I still reach for several times a week in 2018. If you love curls and waves and you want them quickly fast, The KISS InstaWave is a “must-have.”
For some of us, hair tools are like shoes, — you just can’t ever have too many. However. some heat styling tools, like the KISS InstaWave, work amazingly well, much better than some of the others.
The KISS InstaWave ($59.00 at Target,Ulta.com) Automatic Curler lets you have the bouncy waves and curls that are always a trend
Getting the look, however, isn’t always so easy (or fast). The InstaWave is an automatic heat styler that not only makes curls and saves within seconds (it really does) but it does it safely and easily.
If you’re a bit nervous about using a curling tool that automatically grabs strands of your hair and spools it onto a curling iron with just the touch of a button, I don’t blame you . I’ve gotten my hair stuck in plenty of heat stylers and it’s not fun. But the “as seen on TV” InstaWave can curl you hair in four easy steps, and if you have an issues with it, there is a reverse button.
Who is the InstaWave For? Those with medium to long hair in one length (or close to it) will have the easiest time using the Kiss InstaWave. although you can work it with layers too. The longer your hair is, the longer you may need to keep it in the curler (you need enough length to spool it in the curler so if your hair is very short or you have a lot of short layered pieces this won’t work well ). NO matter what length your hair is or what kind of curl you want, practicing to get the look you like is essential. As with any curling iron, depending upon the length and texture of your hair, you will need more (or less) heat and time to get the type of curl you want and you need to use the right amount of sectioned hair. My hair is naturally wavy and frizzy, and it curls easily. But you have to use the right amount of hair for the length you have. Use too much hair at once and it doesn’t spool correctly, use too little and it falls out of the spooler. Using the photos above as a guide I tried ten seconds on the low setting for soft waves, but less than ten seconds on the high setting made spiral curls (which I really didn’t want). Had I kept my hair in the curling iron a few seconds more–I would have ended up with tight lamb curls.
I don’t want a lot of curl, but I love the look of a bit of wave and this took me less than a minute. That’s amazing!
Scared of the spooling mechanism? The Patent Pending Curl Dial works in both the Left or Right directions so you can always unwind and get your hair out safely. It also doesn’t wind hair that tightly. When you are ready to release the curl from the iron you simply pull the iron down and away and your hair drops out beautifully curled.
As with most new heat styling tools, KISS added a few pro-style bells & whistles such as a power light indicator, swivel cord, high and low temperature setting, auto shut off (within 90 minutes), and Diamond -Ceramic Ionic Technology that leaves your curls shiny and with less frizz and damage. The iron itself gets hot very quickly, so don’t touch it. There isn’t a “stand” on this iron but the way the barrel is designed the hot part of the iron will stand up and away from the surface of your table, desk, etc. so it won’t burn or damage your furniture.
It’s reasonably simple to use, and the results are pretty amazing.
