There’s just something about Laura. Laura Mercier, that is. She has managed to continue concocting some of the most sinfully delicious fragrances for bath and body that one could hope to sniff. Her latest fragrance, Ambre Vanille, combines two of her favorite notes: amber and vanilla.
It’s a fresh, modern, sensual (yet yummy) take on these two notes. You almost want to drink in the creamy scent.
More Than Makeup
Laura Mercier makeup collections (e.g. Spring Garden from 2009) are always full of beautiful colors and high-performance products, but she’s got a lot more than makeup. The skincare is wonderful and so are the bath/body/home products.
Laura Mercier was not just one of the very first companies to ever extend samples to a fledgling advicesisters.net beauty review column, hers was also the first truly gourmand fragrance I ever experienced when the Advice Sisters reviewed Laura Mercier’s Gourmande Sampler for Holiday 2002, featuring Creme Brule Body Scrub, Honey Bath and Au Lait Souffle Body Cream.
The actual notes include a top of tangerine, coconut and almond, a heart of tiger orchid, milk flower, and heliotrope, and a base of vanilla beans, brown sugar and sandalwood. It is a kiss of scent that is soft, almost like a cashmere blanket of scent on your skin. Coconut and vanilla, amber and almond, can be cloying and almost annoying thick with scent on your skin. Ambre Vanille is softer. It smells expensive and elegant, not too obviously gourmand. The scent sticks around, but whispers on your skin!
Like most Laura Mercier fragrance collections, this one has several sophisticated versions of the scent, packed into Laura’s signature, square glass apothecary jars, inspired by antique French ones.
Glass Jars are Chic
I don’t normally like to put glass in the bathroom, however, a few jars of Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille products, lined up on your shelf or vanity, add a chic touch to any décor.
My favorite Laura Mercier Bath and Body product has always been the Souffle Body Crème ($55.00), a rich, silky, sinfully pampering moisturizing cream enriched with Vitamins A, C and E, antioxidant grape seed and rice bran oils, sweet almond and rice proteins, and Pro-Vitamin B-5 to moisturize, and vanilla extract and honey to soothe.
A close second is the Body Scrub ($46.00). This might be the only glass jar I have ever allowed in my shower. The scrub is effective in sloughing off dead skin cells and making skin soft and more glowing, but it is also nurturing, with crushed vanilla seeds and hydrogenated jojoba oil, shea butter, and honey, and sweet almond and hydrolyzed rice proteins along with Vitamin B-5 for moisturization. The scent is somehow magnified by the heat of your shower, making what would normally be just a dull chore, into a sensory pleasure.
The line also includes a Honey Bath ($40.00) with all the same skin loving ingredients as the products above.
I’m not sure if there will be additions to this lovely line for the holidays, but the trio, is terrific. Whether you indulge yourself prior to the holidays or pamper someone else with a gift of Laura Mercier’s Ambre Vanille, it will be a wise choice!
