Garnet Hill Cashmere Ankle Socks $34.00 and knee socks ($38.00) are one of those little luxury she might not splurge on for herself, but that she would really appreciate when the weather is cold and damp. They feel so soft and warm on your feet, but they’re not bulky. The elastic band is wide and stays put. If you really want to pamper her, Garnet Hill offers a bit of a discount if you buy five (you get another pair, free). One size: Women’s 9-11. Garnet Hill cashmere is made from the fine, downy undercoat of Kashmir goats raised in Inner Mongolia. and the company uses only Oeko-Tex certified eco-friendly dyes, which means they use fewer chemicals, less water and less energy. And better still, production takes place under the glass roof of a world-class, eco-conscious production facility. That should really appeal to the hipsters and eco-friendly people on your gift list who want to do good things for the planet, but wouldn’t really want to give up luxury and creature comforts. For more information visit the Garnet Hill Web Site
Slippers are a classic gift, as are socks, but I was captivated by th display of Signature Sole Socks by Cozyins ($25.00) at a recent editor’s preview because these 100% polyester fleece knee socks are really lounging socks with no slip treads to be worn as slipper socks inside, and as boots socks and liners, when you’re ready to venture out into the cold. They are available in sisze small (equivalent to youth size 2-4 & women’s 4-6), Medium (women’s 6-8; men’s 5-7), and Large (women’s 8-10, men’s 7-10). They’re currently available in black, royal, pink and burgundy. What I like is that you can wear them so many ways, in a tall boot, or scrunched down over an ankle boot, or over shoes, or of course, just at home. Although there are plenty of slipper socks with treads you can purchase, the creators of Cozyins, Gia Yee-Lozicki and Debbie Klatt, are doing something extra special with their brand — they are providing some of their slipper socks to children you are away from home and in hopositals, and a portion of every sale foes to this charity problem. These soft, warm, colorful socks are a thoughtful gift and if you have a pair of boots that is just a bit too large, or perhaps some of those plastic boots that feel cold and uncomfortable against your legs, wearing these socks as boots liners really makes them feel much better, as well as look better. The socks are available for sale on Amazon, but we suggest that you first visit the official Cozyins web site
What’s better than one gift? multiples! Hanes has solid and printed tights at just $12.00 each of 2 for $20.00 you can gift a girl with a wardrobe of leg looks. Hanes has so many different patterns and colors from solids to pindots to plaids and animal prints, it would be impossible for me to tell you about all of them, so you should just visit the Hanes web site and oogle them all for yourself, or better yet, go to your favorite store and just buy them. But I’ve taken a photo of some of my favorite prints and a few solids, just to give you an idea of what’s out there. My suggestion? Plaids are hot this season, and also animal prints. A printed tight can take a prissy dress and give it an edge. It’s fun to play around with color, texture and print!
For those who don’t wear skirts or dresses, or who wouldn’t wear tights under pants, gift her with leggings. Who doesn’t love these four-season favorites for layering, lounging and traveling? There are so many different brands, at different price points, but again, I’ve wear tested plenty, and the brand that wins out for comfort and cost is Hanes. Their Hanes Cotton Legging $20.00 comes in a variety of colors and fabrics, including a cordouroy (which I didn’t wear test). This leggingg i 95% cotton and 4% spandex so you don’t feel like you are wearing skin tight “plastic” on your legs all day, but you can machine wash them. Also, as you can see from my photo, the waistband is wide and the legs are stitched and “skinny” but not clamped to your ankle. What I like most about these leggings is that they stay UP. If you’ve ever worn leggings that just seem to “migrate” down as you walk around, it’s simply annoying to be tugging and pulling them up. These fit on or near your waist and remain there until you remove them. If you are traveling on an airplane, for example, and you are sitting for long periods of time, these details matter. With Hanes products, however, size is critical. I am a size medium in some items, a large in others, and another size entirely in other products. These leggings come in Black, Grey, Brown and Wine and in sizes small (4-6), medium (8-10), large (12-14) and XL (16). Depending upon your budget, you might buy a couple of these for a friend or family member, or pair one with a colorful tunic and make an outfit. visit the Hanes web site or just to your favorite mass market retailer or department store and shop.
Hanes and Leggs are known for pantyhose, of course. When you think of giving these as a gift, you have to think of ultra luxe or multiples, but Hanes has some pretty exciting holiday offerings, including some of the ones you see in my collage above. Gift yourself with the Silk Reflections Shimmer Control Top Sheer Toe Pantyhose ($10.00) for a holiday party and turn a workday frock into a party dress (just add heels or glittery flats). The silver with silver shimmery is a way to add sparkle without going over the top, but the black with gold shimmer makes a little black dress into something seriously special. There are only three sizes in this style, AB, CD and EF and the Control top on the super-sheer leg is fairly substantial to keep even clinging knits looking sleek. And if you just want an elegant look, Hanes has Silk Reflections Ultra Sheer Control Top ($11.00) with run resistant technology and super-sheer legs so every imperfection on your skin is diminished. Your legs look better than bare! If you like a truly natural look Hanes even has an Ultra Sheer toeless version ($10.00) which I really like if I’m wearing sandals, because then my stockings don’t slip so much in my shoes, and it looks like I am not wearing stocking at all, but I get the benefits! There are four sizes to choose from. and plenty of colors. For those who truly love multiples, here’s a tip: A 6-pack of the popular Leggs Sheer Energy Pantyhose Suggested Retail Price is just $32.16 in 7 classic colors and also in Q (queen size). These give your legs a bit of an all day massage with a stretchy knigt that comes in regular, not control top, so you can feel comfortable all day long. Good for travel, too. Visit your favorite mass market retailer!
IMPORTANT! Size: Pantyhose must fit or it feels miserable. Do check the size chart for each item you want, and look at the weight and height measurements to get an approximate feel for the size. Don’t assume that if you normally wear a small, for example, you’ll be a small in every Hanes or Leggs product. I am a different size in just about everythign! Check the size chart for the best fit.
