For Spring, Clarins is introducing the Neo Pastels Colour Collection. The palette features soft pastels inspired by watercolour paintings. But while you can get a subtle look, you can also add vibrant pops of color. This makes the collection, much more versatile and fun to use.
I snagged a sample of the new Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour ($28.00). The slim, shiny, gold compact arrives in a rich, red Velvet pouch. The compact itself is smooth except for the tiniest indent bearing a diminutive Clarins “C.” Inside, there’s a large mirror, a mini-sized, clear plastic-handled blush brush, and a large square of deep, medium and light matte and shimmer tones, arranged in a Mondrian-style, color-block. You can vary the effect by choosing more matte, or more iridescent blocks of color. Plant and mineral ingredients help add a subtle glow and light to your face. Six colour harmonies, in complementary shades add colour and light to the cheekbones: a matte shade to sculpt the face and an iridescent one to highlight the facial contours. Mine, in “#04 Coral Sunset,” added a subtle glow to cheeks, with just color from the deeper matte browned rose to produce contouring that looked natural, not nutty. There is also: #01 Lovely Rose; #02 Soft Peach; #03 Miami Pink; #05 Rose Wood and #6 Spiced Mocha. The blush blends seamlessly, the colors, universally flattering, thanks to mineral pigments and plant extracts, plus bamboo powder and tomatoe extract (for a luminous glow). You can’t go wrong adding this multi-tasking blush/highlight/contour to your color wardrobe.
Among the new Limited Editions are the gorgeous, Neo Pastels Eye Colour and Liner Palette $40.00 and the Clarins Rouge Hydra Nude Smoothing Cream Lipsticks
The Neo Pastels Eye Colour and Liner Palette comes in a red, velvet pouch and inside that there’s a sleek, shiny gold palette so elegant, you’d think it was 14K. You just can’t help but feel special, pampered, worth it when you hold this in your hand. Open the lid (with the recessed, magnetic push-bar) and there’s a long mirror, a double-sided applicator with a sponge tip on one end, a liner brush that comes to a point, on the other. But it’s the shadows and liner inside that count, of course. The shadows are watercolor-subtle, delicate tones of browns, pinks and violets. A counterpoint is the black, gel solid liner on the right hand side of the palette that adds definition for a dramatic eye. You can apply dry these dry for a wash of color, or dampen the sponge tipped applicator, and the colors morph into deeper intensities with a slightly metallic finish. With these six colors and the black liner, you’ll be ready for day or evening, and have a lot of fun trying out different looks. Be trendy, be classic, be bold–it’s all in this classy gold compact! I just love it! It is now one of my must-have suggestions for Spring 2011. Well worth the money for this multi-tasking eye palette.
I also got a tube of the special, limited edition, Clarins Rouge Hydra Nude Smoothing Cream Lipstick $24.00. According to Clarins, the skin on the lips is five times finer than that of your face. The epidermis is very thin with few sebaceous glands, so your lips can try out easily, and they’re fragile, folks! Clarins lipsticks are known for their silky, luxurious, nurturing formulas, but this new lipstick combines high performance makeup with a high concentration of skincare. In fact, it’s made up of 25% skincare ingredients to moisturize, help repair, and protect. Key ingredients include: Hydracire®S and mango butter; Vitamins A and E and Clarin’s Maxi Lip Complex (to repair and replenish). The chic, square, ombre-colored cap covers a shiny, lipstick tube with a slanted tip. When the lipstick makes contact with your lips, it becomes a cream that glides on smoothly and leaves just enough color to be flattering and natural. This lipstick also has SPF 6 (thanks to 5% Octinoxate) to help protect your lips, at least a little, from the sun’s damaging rays. The lipsticks smell simply divine, like rich vanilla, and they feel like silky cream on your skin. The colors are subtle, and moistly, matte, #02 Pastel Coral and #04 Pastel Brown, work for everyone.
4 Shades. Retail Price: $24
