make every day national tequila day, no excuse needed
National Tequila day is July 24th, but tequila is something you can enjoy every day, no excuses needed.
Although tequila has been popular in America for a long time, its’ history of tequila goes back to Jose Antonio Cuervo of Jalisco, Mexico, in 1758, after he was given the rights by King Ferdinand VI of Spain to cultivate a portion of land. The king then banned tequila, but I guess the demand was high, so he removed the ban.
1800 is widely known as the year in which tequila was first successfully aged in wood, and the 1800 Silver tequila I’m writing about today was originally known as Cuervo 1800 Tequila,[launched in 1975 as a premium sipping tequila. I remember that the “Tequila Sunrise” was especially popular with my friends. Silver, Añejo and Reposado labels were introduced in 2004. In 2008 the Select Silver label tequila waas introduced as the first and only 100 proof clear tequila.
1800® SILVER ($33.00 srp.for 750ml) is made from 100% blue agave handpicked from the family’s ranches in Jalisco, Mexico. In terms of “terroir” the agave plants are grown high above the sea in mineral-rich soil in the highlands. They take eight years to ripen and can only be harvested once. The Tequila is then double-distilled and matured in French and American oak wooden barrels selected by the 1800® Maestro Tequilero. The result, however, is a very smooth tequila. If you’re ever knocked back a shot of well-worthy tequila at a bar and found your mouth and throat on fire, you know that a smooth tequila is really a must-have, worth a little extra cost. We drank shots of this tequila straight and it was pleasant, however….
….Tequila is one of those liquors you can drink as “shots” (don’t forget the salt and lime) or mix with lots of other things. I am including a recipe from the 1800 Tequila web site below, but above is the frozen mango margarita I made that tasted as good as it looks!
For the holidays: Each year, world-renowned artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gary Baseman and Keith Haring share their art on the 1800 tequila bottle. These limited-run bottles, filled with 1800® Silver Tequila will make an excellent gift for the person who has everything and for tequila lovers and bottle collectors.
