Most of the time, The Advice Sisters focus on women’s or unisex products. But we love our guys, and we know they need a little pampering, too. Today, I’m suggesting two products (a fragrance from Nautica and a new shampoo from Redken) just for him. Both are luxurious, but not so costly that you’ll cringe when you reach to pay.
If you’re seeking a little pampering for your special guy, check these out!
For men, Summer can be a time to smell seriously sexy, especially with some of the lighter (but not wimpy) and fresh (not overly fruity) fragrances cropping up to beat the heat. One that both the lads and ladies are loving for Summer 2013 is Nautica’s Aqua Rush Gold . The bottle looks like a sleek sailboat heeling over in the brisk wind. How sexy is that?!!
Created by perfumer Joachim Correll of Symrise, Nautica Aqua Rush Gold is a masculine, citrus, woody scent enhanced with marine notes, featuring citrus and lime. I immediately smelled the citrus that starts the top notes, but The Advice Sisters’ male tester deemed the scent “blue” smelling. After I had a giggle over that, I realized that for him, “blue scented” meant that he smelled the sea. And there is a seaweed marine note ion Aqua Rush Gold’s top notes. At drydown, our male tester finally said he smelled “woods” (bingo! there is sandalwood in the bottom) but he still insisted that the marine notes were sticking around “like a really, really nice smelling pool,” he opined.
Scent is highly personal, but to guide consumers to what makes Nautica Aqua Rush Gold special, the press literature says that the fragrance is “for the male that embodies nautical adventure.” I can see that. But the overall vibe is fresh, not too light (but light enough) and will work well with a man’s body chemistry even when he’s “hot” (in all the ways you can think of). For those who want to know the notes more exact;u. the scent begins with a fresh burst of Lime, Pitanga (Surinam cherry) and Seaweed Accord. These blend with Pink Peppercorn, Waterlily and Jasmine Flower, and at the bottom, there’s a blend of Vetiver, Amber and Sandalwood.
Packaging is an important part of the reason someone will purchase a fragrance, especially if they have more than one, already. This bottle is stunning. the clear glass bottle with gold top looks like a sleek sailboat, and it leans to the side as if the sails are full. It feels almost like a large touchstone in the hand, large enough to satisfy a man’s need to grip it, but still slim and elegant. The gold topper over the spray diffuser adds a bit of elegance, without going overboard (no pun intended). The only design element on the bottle is a subtle “Nautica” embossed into the side of the bottle, where you might find the name of a racing yacht. The outer carton has the same sailboat design, on a classy, brushed gold background. The presentation is not only attractive, it looks really expensive, but luckily, the fragrance price is right in line with other department store brands, with the 1.7 fl. oz. Eaude Toilette is just $49.00 and the 3.4 fl. oz. bottle is $65.00. . The matching deodorant body spray is a bargain at $10.00!
Nautica Aqua Rush Gold is available at Macy’s department stores and other fine retailers nationwide
A man’s hair and body needs extra special care when it’s hot outside. But if a guy has thinning hair, he might not want to wash it as often. Wrong! All he needs is the right product. Redken has a new, Full Impact Bodyfying Shampoo for Men, that helps plump up fine or thinning hair, while keep it clean. The products has what Redken calls “Thick-Lift Technology), with patented “Intra-Cyclane” and protein. This helps strengthen and provides body. The product also includes cellulouse, which is a volumizing polymer. The thing about cleansing products for guys, is that for most of them, a product that doesn’t foam, somehow doesn’t clean. So Redken has included a foaming surfactant to make sure the guys get their hair thoroughly clean, with the pleasure of the type of foam they expect.
While “volumized” wasn’t in our male tester’s vocabulary, he said he liked the way his hair looked and felt. He reported that he really liked using the Redken For Men Full Impact Bodyfying Shampoo and “definitely would keep using it.” He reporter that his hair felt “clean” (duh!) and soft (yay!) and he said it felt “puffier” (by that he meant “fuller”).
Not all men have the issue of thinning hair, but plenty, of men do, and it worries them. This is an easy way for a man to feel more confident, and make the hair they still have look better. But every guy can enjoy Full Impact for even thicker, shinier, softer, sexier hair.
That being said, men like their products to be uncomplicated. All they have to do with this one (deemed “really good and fresh smelling” by the Advice Sisters’ male tester) is to massage the shampoo on the hair for one minute, and rinse. That 60 seconds is crucial to help plump up the hair and get the results they want. At just $12.00 for a nicely sized 10.1 fl. oz. grey plastic bottle with red graphics, it’s a “buy” and a little luxury that will quickly become a must-have for him.
Redken products are sold only in authorized salons. Visit http://redken.com to find one near you.
