Physicians Formula Bling For Your Eyes: Physicians Formula is offering a collection of colors for eyes that are keyed to your iris color. The products are “glam” with versatile colors and formulas:
The Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow and Liner – Eye candy Collection costs just $10.95 for nine color-keyed-to-your-iris, eye shadows, beautifully packaged in a thick, clear, lucite compact (looks elegant and expensive) and it even includes a clear-handled, mini-sponge-tipped multi-purpose applicator brush (use the point for a lining eyes with wet or dry color, the flat side for applying lid color, and the top for contouring). There are four color combos: Green Eye Candy; Brown Eye Candy; Hazel Eye Candy; and Blue Eye Candy. Within each of the compacts, the colors are arranged in trios from Natural (lightest shades) to Playful (medium shades) and Dramatic (deepest shades). But there’s really no right or wrong way to use them. These shinmmery shadows can offer a light wash of color, or wet them for intense color and a metallic look. It is also important to note that Physicians Formula cares about the needs of people with sensitive eyes, and those who wear contact lenses. So the shadows are paraben and fragrance free, dermatologist approved, hypoallergenic, and safe for contact lens wearers and people with with sensitive eyes, I am in the latter category, and while my experience might not be exactly like yours, I had no problems with any of the Physicians Formula eye products. Nine great shadows for $10.95? That’s a bargain! I have blue eyes, so I tried the collection for blue eyes (in the photo), first. Predictably, it featured green and blue shades both light and dark. While I’m not a fan of light blue eye shadow, I liked the medium ocean blue, midnight blue, the two shades of grey, and the deep rose that helps shake things up a bit! Equally as flattering was the palette that is meant for brown eyes, with earthy tones of bronze, brown, gold and copper, with a deep amethyst thrown in for accent. The other palettes were equally lovely. My point is that even though Physicians Formula has designed palettes to specifically flatter your eye color, you can make your own rules. Mix them up and make all these colors, work for your unique look.
*keep flexibility in mind when reading the rest of this review where Physician Formula is featuring color-centric collections. If you like the product designed for an eye color other than your own, you won’t look crazy, hideous or uninformed if you choose it. While the makeup designer thought specific colors would flatter your eyes the most, all of these colors are options.
What comes after shadow and liner? Mascara, of course. Physicians Formula has nice ones so I’m focusing on the latest, first. It’s also part of the color-centric Glam collection: Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Mascara Duo ($10.95) gives you a dual-ended mascara wand (in a chic, rectangular wand) offering a daytime look of a a black mascara with a hint of shimmer, while the other side provides a metallic overlay to add more glam to your lashes. The dual-ended compact has a clear side so you can see the color, and a really nice, metallic mirrored side for the overlay, (in the color of the metallic overlay) with a mirrored surface you really can use. As you might suspect, the collection is color-keyed: GLAM Blue Eyes (black and Silver); GLAM Green Eyes (Black and Pewter); GLAM brown eyes (black and bronze) and GLAM hazel eyes.( black and gold). I liked the generously-sized bristle brush that really lets you coat your lashes thoroughly and quickly without having to go over them several times (that can cause flaking and clumping). The mascara also lasts a very long time, great especially if you are going out or traveling, and you’re not planing to lug more than a lipstick with you. This mascara is also free of parabens, fibers, oil or fragrance–good for contact lens wearers and even those with sensitive eyes. I tried the black/silver combo for blue eyes. but honestly, I also tried the others, and I liked them all, The metallic overlays are not headlight bright, they’re pretty subtle. There is no reason why you can’t enhance any color eye with gold, bronze, pewter or silver. Just pick one or pick them all, and have fun!
Although it’s not part of the color-keyed GLAM collection, there is another mascara option that I really love, and I think you will, too. For starters, it arrives packaged in a huge, metallic, bright green “leaf” that is just fun to use (and it’s 100% recyclable_. Inside, the mascara wand is a bulbous, large one with bristles that grab and coat every lash without having to go back over them a gazillion times. But the real reason this mascara is different is that this Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash Mascara ($9.95) carries the ECOCERT Organic Cosmetics Certification. For those who know and care, EcoCert is an organic certification organization that conducts certifications, globally, and it is one of the largest organic certification organizations in the world. To be EcoCert certified, products must include ingredients that are at least 95% natural and 10% organic. That being said, this particular mascara is not only made of 100% naturally derived ingredients (including rice protein and organic tapioca starch to help boost volume), it also has Physicians Formula’s own EcoBlend which is a complex of naturally active OrganiSoy and EcoOlive to condition and protect lashes. It is free of genetically modified organisms, synthetic preservatives, drying synthetic solvents, synthetic polymers and dyes, harsh chemicals, parabens, and fragrances, and it’s 100% fiber free, hypoallergenic, Ophthalmologist approved, cruelty free, and of course, good for contact lens wearers and those with sensitive eyes. That is very impressive, but what about the mascara? Actually, it’s quite good! You can get it in Ultra Black Organics, and Black Organics. Even if you didn’t care a bit about whether this mascara was 100% organic or had an ECOCERT certification, you can’t help but love the way it looks. It’s not just green, it’s gorgeous, and very good!
