Prevage creates a huge amount of buzz, every time Elizabeth Arden ads another product to the line. The Advice Sisters reviewed the original Prevage in our What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion review column Spring of 2009, and then suggested Prevage Day Ultra Protection Anti-Aging Moisturizer SPF 30 PA++ as a luxe, holiday gift idea in Holiday 2009.
Very recently, Elizabeth Arden announced the launch of another PREVAGE® Face Advanced Anti-aging Serum with Idebenone with a “new & improved” deliver system. *just so that you are not totally confused: In the US, Prevage Face Advanced Anti-Aging Serum has just replaced Prevage Anti-Aging Treatment. The product’s star ingredient is still Idebnone, a very powerful antioxidant and the only one to receive the highest EPF® rating of 95 out of 100. It can act on all three levels of free radical damage, working deep within the surface layers of the skin to restore skin cells. But the new Prevage® Face delivers the Idbenone to your skin in a new way that advances its protective, preventive and corrective benefits. The formula has been re-engineered to help create a reserve within the skin to release protective and corrective benefits when and where needed most. According to the Elizabeth Arden clinical tests, here’s what you can expect:
** Immediately – Fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and discolorations appear reduced
** After 4 weeks – Redness, minor scars and existing sun damage look minimized
Re-engineered to help create a reserve within the skin to release protective and corrective benefits when and where needed most. Measurably diminishing the appearance of lines, wrinkles, minor scars, redness, age spots and sun damage so skin looks younger than ever. .
PREVAGE® is produced by Allergan, and sold via Elizabeth Arden. Allergan and Elizabeth Arden are known for high tech, high quality, high performance products, so of course, I was curious to see if this product would be better than the others I have tried (all were good, although they have to be right for your skin, applied properly, and regularly — and there is no denying that they are pricey).
The packaging is impressive. The hard sided, silver, metallic cardboard presentation box with clear window holds the shiny, silver tower pump bottle that holds the unscented, peach-tinted serum, like a precious work of art.
If you look at the package insert (and you always, really should) you will learn that the product could potentially irritate sensitive skin, or those with skin conditions. They suggest a patch test on your arm before you go whole hog and spread the precious serum all over your face. Then, if you have sensitive skin, the suggested dose is once per day for two weeks, and then twice per day thereafter. This makes sense, except that if you’ve already plunked down $155.00 for 1.7 fl. oz. of PREVAGE® Face and then can’t use it, that’s a pretty pricey loss. I don’t know if there are sample packettes available out there, but if so (and your think your skin might react), I’d try a sample, first.
However, I DO have sensitive skin, and like the true guinea pig that I have to be, to review products, I just applied the PREVAGE® Face to my skin, and waited. I felt a cool tingling and worried that I’d break out in a rash, or worse, but to my surprise, I didn’t. I liked the lightweight consistency that made my skin feel smooth. For the technically curious, moisturizing and hydrating benefits also come from: butylene glycol, C12-15 alkyl benzoate, glycerin, sodium hyaluronate, caprylyl glycol, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, propylene glycol, sodium PCA, trehalose, urea, and phospholipids.
Does PREVAGE® Face, work? Some say it’s the best thing ever, some say it’s good, but maybe not for them. As with all the skincare products I review, I am reluctant to unequivocally claim that something works, or doesn’t work. It depends so much upon your type of skin, your skin’s needs, how you apply a product, and how regularly you use it, I haven’t been able to use this one long enough (not yet, anyway–but I am going to use it a while longer) to claim that the product works better than another other powerful antioxidant skin cream, but my skin did look and feel great. Based on my previous, personal, experiences with PREVAGE® and other Elizabeth Arden premium skin care products, I’d say that this one should work well. This product has been reformulated, and as someone who often can’t tolerate powerful skincare, I found this one very tolerable for my sensitive skin. That is a real plus.
The Advice Sisters suggested PREVAGE® as a holiday gift idea. I’m suggesting the new & improved, PREVAGE® Face Advanced Anti-aging Serum with Idebenone as a luxurious Mother’s Day gift suggestion. Maybe mom can’t or won’t splurge $155.00 for 1.7 fl. oz. on her skin, but you can show her she’s worth it!
