Asian skincare is trendy in the United States but, of course, it has been a fact of beautiful skin for women throughout Asia for a long time. Among the many upscale lines of skincare from Asia that have migrated to the United States is NNNY Skin Care created by Yuko Nishio, who went from model to esthetician to entrepreneur and owner of the ‘Nature Sage Phytoaromatherapy Salon’ in Tokyo, Japan. Aromatherapy as medicine has been used for thousands of years. Yuko Nishio believes that this ‘restoration-to-health’ method is the most important principle in rejuvenating youthful, beautiful skin. For 20 years, she worked on developing natural skin care with the most effective plants and essences, now used by top actresses and models in Japan as well as worldwide.
The NNNY Skin Care line features 5 retail products, including a cleansing soap, brightening moisture-repairing treatment, hydrating mist, moisturizing face mask, and a body toning gel. All products are dermatologist tested and approved, hypoallergenic, and free of parabens, colorants, and fragrance and good for all skin types. This is an upscale line and you’ll pay for it: suggested retail prices range from $60 for the Gentle Camellia Facial Soap to $295 for the iconic brightening treatment, Nano Whiteen® Cream EX.
Looking at the ingredients on the NNNY web site, I did see a lot of seaweed, fruits and other botanicals that are often included in effective skincare. NNNY micro-sized ‘nano’ natural molecules of proven healing vitamins, plant oils, floral essences, and amino acid peptides penetrate skin’s deepest layers in a gentle, safe manner. Over time, the daily regimen purports to diminish wrinkles, firm skin tone, restors softness to skin’s keratin structure, and works to stimulate circulation to bring about the most natural inner healing. The NNNY exclusive series of skin care protects and hydrates skin with over 55 plant botanical essences in just one formula, the best-selling skin brightener, Nano-Whiteen® Cream EX. the natural, nourishing elements from Japan include some you’ll recognize and some that may be fairly exotic: The star ingredients are:
Fucoidan, Found in the viscous coating on seaweed, Fucoidan works to prevent seaweed, from drying and protects it when damaged. Its high antioxidant benefits strengthen your skin’s ability to combat environmental damage and stress. The moisturizing effect of Fucoidan can be higher than that of Hyaluronic Acid.
Yuzu: Cultivated in the Tokushima region of Japan, this lemony fruit helps tone and brighten skin.
Camellia Oil: This delicate antioxidant oil helps diminish the appearance of discolorations and wrinkles as it penetrates deeply to nourish rough, dry, UV damaged skin.
Prunus Lannesiana : The extract of a rare, wild flowering Cherry from the Izu Islands helps minimize the appearance of glycation for firmer, brighter, more resilient skin.
Satsuma Mandarin: Rich in limonene, carotenoids, and Vitamin C, this legendary fruit helps reduce visible signs of irritation.
What you get for your money: NNNY Skin Care treatments are the result of years of research into natural, botanical ingredients and phyto-aromatherapy.
According to Founder Yuko Nishio, “The source of so many skin problems is dryness. Dryness reduces the defense function that the skin’s horny layer provides. By protecting that defensive layer, you prevent environmental pollutants from entering skin to deteriorate healthy, resilient structure and cause premature aging. Dryness is the thief of radiance.”
I didn’t try the skin brightener, but I did try the Gentle Camellia Facial Soap ($60.00 3.8 oz.) which arrives in a round solid soap bar that looks like it has a glycerin base. After gulping a bit at the cost, I checked to see what is in it. Normally I’d give you just a snapshot of the star ingredients, but since this is a rather pricey product, here’s the entire list as detailed on the NNNY web site: Soap Na/K, Dipropylene Glycol, Water, Glycerin, Sucrose, Sorbitol, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Squalene, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Butylene Glycol, Camellia Seed Oil, Taurine, Lysine HCL, Strawberry Fruit Extract, Kiwi Extract, Glutamic Acid, Glycine, Leucine, Histidine HCI, Serine, Valine, Aspartic Acid Na, Threonine, Alanine, Isoleucine, Allantoin, Phenylalanine, Cladosiphon Novae-Caledoniae Extract (Fucoidan), Lowbush Blueberry Fruit Extract, Argenine, Praline, Loquat Leaf Extract, Satsuma Mandarin Fruit Extract, Lemon Fruit Extract, Satozakura Cherry Flower Extract, Tyrosine, Aloe Vera Leaf Extract, Inosinic Acid 2Na, Guanylic Acid 2Na, Ascorbic Acid, Malic Acid, Tolybiguanide, Phenoxyethanol.
If this means little or nothing to you, I understand. So here’s the lowdown on what is in this soap. For starters it is rich in Fucoidan, a natural seaweed with exceptional antioxidant and moisturizing benefits. It helps prevents dehydration and helps protect and restore dry, damaged skin due to UV radiation and harsh environmental stress. Satsumi Mandarin Fruit and Camellia Flower Extracts combine with 16 repairing amino acids to restore brightness, smooth skin’s texture, and keep it firm, resilient, and calm.
You get a white, mesh sponge with this product and like anything else, using the soap correctly will give you the best results. You should cleanse your skin with the soap in the morning and at night before bedtime. Wash hands and then lightly moisten the cleansing mesh (included), and rub with soap. A resilient creamy foam is created (tip: to create a rich foam, avoid adding too much water to the cleansing mesh. The mesh is for creating the foam and not for use directly on the skin. So lift the foam from the mesh and smooth foam over your face, massaging into skin with your hands). Rinse well with warm water. Pat skin dry with a towel.
If your skin is sensitive, dry, tight, aging, the soap really does hydrate well without leaving any tight feeling or dryness or residue behind.
Another product that is very pleasant to use, splurge and a treat for you, is the Nano Mist. ( $95.00 3.33 fl. oz.) , Most mists just seem to my my skin moist, which can be very refreshing, but I wonder if they do more than just act as a pick me up, The NNNY Nano Mist does more. For starters, it’s unscented, and it is lightweight. It visibly brightened my face after a few spritzed, and it is very, very emollient. Lipidure®, a precious moisturizing complex, is twice as hydrating as Sodium Hyaluronate and it binds moisture deeply into the skin’s cellular structure to ensure optimal, long lasting results.
The light, but concentrated formula is rich in ceramides to make skin feel velvety smooth and soft. Evening Primrose helps to ease skin irritations. This super penetrating mist holds natural moisture in the skin and helps prevent harmful pollution and environmental elements from clogging pores and stripping away the skin’s protective moisture barrier. The “dewy glow” promised, was delivered, but I sprayed a bit too much and in about half an hour had to wipe some of it off.
How to use it: Hold bottle about 6” away from face, close eyes, and spray lightly to moisten skin. Pat into skin with fingertips or allow to penetrate naturally. Reapply anytime skin feels dry. Excellent to set and freshen up makeup. Don’t massage or rub over the skin. You can also use this on e43Z hands, neck, and décolleté. Simply spray onto skin and press it in. A few spritzes on my dry hands made them come alive, instantly.
