Skylight Picture Frame is Fab!
By Alison Blackman
I’m really excited about this new digital picture frame called Skylight that takes the enjoyment of viewing your digital photos, one step further into the “social” realm.
Skylight lets you upload your photos to the frame via a special email that you create (@ourskylight.com). Share this email with family, friends, etc. and they can also send you photos directly to the frame.
Once the photos arrive on your Skylight, you can view it, add it to a gallery or slideshow, or simply delete the photos you don’t want to keep using easy, on-screen instructions.
There’s even a “like” button shaped as a heart (as on Instagram). If you press it, the sender of the photo gets a thank you note.
Make a Connection!
The idea fascinated me, not just because it works so easily and so well, with a setup that took literally, minutes, but because it connects your “tribe” in a powerful, visual way.
Obviously, you won’t give the special email to everyone. However, let’s assume, for example, that you’re in a long distance relationship where being able to send each other photos is a way to stay close and connected.
Whether you want to send your parents photos for their frame from your wedding/honeymoon, or photos of the baby, or whatever you or they want to share, it’s a customizable and (nearly) instant way to do it. Photos sent with your special email arrive within 60 seconds, but in my test it was less than 30 seconds. That’s almost instant gratification!
High Quality, Counts
There is no downside really, but if the resolution of the photo isn’t good to begin with, Skylight isn’t going to enhance it. If you watch the video below, you’ll see some of the first photos I sent to the Skylight, but they were mostly copied from old slides and a Blackberry.
This won’t really be an issue for most modern camera and smartphone users.
The video above shows some of my photos on the Skylight. The 10″ frame features a color touch screen (Screen resolution: 1024px x 600px)
The unit connects via Wi-Fi and accepts JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF file formats. There’s 8GB of storage which the skylight website claims is enough for 8000+ photos.
The unit also comes with a standard 2-prong plug to power it. As long as you have WiFi you can use your Skylight anywhere in the world.
If don’t love it for any reason there’s a 30-day money back guarantee.
