For some, Fashions Night Out during Fashion Week in New York is a time to stay in. There are just too many people milling around and too many crowds. But on that night, September 6, 2012, Swarovski introduced its new Limited Edition fragrance, Swarovski Edition and I wish I’d been there! The fragrance is inspired by the iconic clutches worn on the red carpets of the Cannes Film Festival, the Academy Awards and the Toronto International Film Festival, created by the House of Swarovski .
Swarovski Edition has unique packaging. For starters, the outer carton features two shades of hot pink, sparkling with a gold embossed metallic “Lizard” design on the front, and the inner part of the carton is lined with dramatic hot pink, But the other side of the carton is entirely different. It features a photo of the fragrance, top off, lying over two golden evening bags. It looks like the owner of the bags has just pulled the bottle out of her purse, and is spraying it either before going out to a black tie event, or as a touch up at the event itself. The carton lends an air of excitement to the other part of the product, the very unique bottle. The Swarovski Edition bottle features not a classic shade, but a slender, white, plastic bottle that looks like a clutch purse full front, but is heart shaped, when you view it front the side. This heart-shaped bottle has a “lizard” patterned golden metal belt that, on one side, features 14 tiny, blush gold, sparkling Swarovski crystals positioned to look like they could be the “clasp” for this fanciful “clutch bag” bottle. In fact, the bottle is a combination of metalized leather and golden shadow crystals.
It obviously is no stretch to imagine that this is one of the newest and chic-est fragrances around. And, for a 1.7 fl. oz. Swarovski Edition, 2012 Limited Edition Eau de Toilette Spray, the cost is surprisingly reasonable– just-$70.00. It’s going to be a collector’s “must-have,” and unless it sells out before the holidays, it is going to be an “it” gift for anyone who loves fragrance, and fashion, and Swarovski.
Back in the Spring of 2012, the Advice Sisters introduced our readers to Swarovski Aura, the first fragrance by European luxury house Swarovski for the United States market. French luxury beauty brand Clarins partnered with Swarovski to create this luminous, fruity floral scent, and also auxiliary items. That fragrance has an immediately recognizeable top note of juicy lychee, plus notes of pure white tuberose and a spicy, pink pepper, with a heart of amber, benzoin, and white musk, and the end results, a sensual floral where a nod to the fruit, still shines through. And while the fragrance seemed light enough, it stayed nicely on the skin.
Swarovski Edition, as the name suggests, is a limited edition. This fruity floral was created by Sonia Constant for Givaudan, again partnering with Clarins for Swarovski. But while the packaging is the first surprise, the second is the fragrance and how it changes to delight your senses. It starts out strong, with a burst of bright, fruity energy, Then, quite suddenly, you smell a lot of feminine rose and gardenia. But that’s not the end of it. You get true “fragrance theater” as the scent dries down to a more mellow, balanced fruity floral where the fruit blends with the other notes and, yet, as with Aura, still makes its presence, known.
The actual notes are top notes including a light sweet sparkling melange of clementine and red currant jelly, with a heart of wild rose blossom and gardenia (with a green note), and a drydown of white musk and cedar wood. The end result is pretty, feminine and sophisticated, but modern. And like Aura, this one stays strong and long on the skin, even though it’s not a bowl-you-over-with-a-big-scented-stick kind of fragrance. I love that about it.
Swarovski Edition is available this Fall exclusively at Swarovski boutiques nationwide.
