A few years ago, a dear from of mine went to a very luxurious hotel, and came back practically drooling over the bath and body products he used there. The products turned out to be Tarocco by Baronessa Cali ‘You absolutely must get these and review them,” he insisted.
Never one to disappoint a reader, or a friend, I contacted the powers that be, and reviewed the Tarocco Travel Set (was $20.00 back in 2008 and now it is still just $24.00).
What I learned about the line is that the products are made with Sicilian Red Orange extracts. In fact, “Tarocco” is an Italian name for “Blood Orange” and “Red Orange.” It also means” beautiful” in Sicilian dialect. I couldn’t find out a lot about Baroness Cali, except that she was born in Sicily and moved to her family’s ancestral castle outside of Rome, when she was just five years old. Apparently a part of the family’s lands has been operating as the Cali Beauty farm. The romantic story line for Tarocco’s lovely products is also lovely: Baronessa Conseulo Cali’s great great grandfather, from the town of Rapsi, in the provence of Francofonte,Sicily was walking through his orange and olive groves one day, and found an orange with a unique red color, sweetness and flavor. Tarocco (also know as “Blood Orange” and “Red Orange”), was the fruit he discovered.
That blood orange is of course, the star ingredient in the Tarocco brand. There is another line, Olivia, that focuses on olive oil benefits (of which there are many), plus collections for children, for home, spa and more. You can even purchase olive oil from some of those famous, ancestral trees!
All of this makes me want to run to Italy, but does any of this matter to your skin, back home, today? For Tarocco, blood orange is a fruit rich in antioxidants, to help make your skin softer, replenished, and even more toned. And then there’s the fragrance: a cross between a fresh-squeezed orange with a touch of tartness of a pink grapefruit. It’s intoxicating and makes you feel positive. The scent is so enjoyable, I almost hate to rush through my morning routine!
For exfoliation, the Body Scrub has that same, lovely, blood orange scent that I can’t get enough of. But there is more than aromatherapy going on here. Tarocco Body Scrub exfoliates those dead skin cells and improves your circulation when you apply it in a circulation motion. Mediterranean sea salt is mildly abrasive, so even those with sensitive skin can use it regularly, and it has aloe vera to moisturize, soothe and calm, plus white ginger to moisturize. This is not a harsh exfoliator, but one that used regularly, will keep your skin smooth and hydrated, just as you would like, without ripping it to shreds with harsh abrasives. I’m in love with it for that reason (and that scent!)
Another thing I really like about Tarocco products is that at least some of them are available in a range of sizes, so there’s something to fit every size family, and budget. The body wash, for example, is available in: 50 ml – $4.00 (US); 200ml/7.5 fl.oz – $14.00 (US); 256ml/ 8.7fl.oz – $18.00 (US) ; 500ml/16.9 fl.oz – $32.00 (US) and even a 664ml/22.5 fl.oz – $42.00 (US) . However. the Body Scrub is available in just one size $24.00 for 8.7 fl. oz. But this size will last you a while unless you are truly obsessed and use it more than once a day (which I don’t recommend).
And for spa night, or just to add some positive vibes to your space, there’s a Scented Candle $26.00 11 oz. The nicely boxed votive makes a great gift, but with a burn time of 65 to 75 hours. And the price is reasonable for the size and quality of the candle. You’ll want to get one for yourself so be forewarned to order at least two. The orange-tinted candle in a clear glass votive is strongly scented. I put my review sample on my desk to consider it, and realized that I was already enjoying that gorgeous, blood orange scent, and I hadn’t even lit the wick, yet. If I was planning to buy a man a scented gift, the Tarocco Single Wick Soy Candle would be one of my top picks because it has that clean, fresh, citrus smell that is neither sweet, fake or cloying. As I said previously, it was actually a man that first introduced me to Tarocco.
Now that’s food for thought! Visit the Cali Cosmetics Web Site to learn more and to order.
