Whether you get it from a sweetheart, from a friend, or just buy something for yourself, Valentines’ Day is a time to remember those you love. The Accessories Council stimulates awareness and demand for fashion accessories, and among their many activities, they sponsor seasonal trend events for media. At the latest one, for Valentines’ Day, I was able to check out and talk to many of the company owners and designers of accessories showcasing V-day perfect products. I’ve reviewed a few separately in other advicesisters.com posts (enter “accessories council” in the search box at the top right hand side of this page and they’ll come up). However, I’ve also chosen some of the items that really impressed me the most from this incredible V-day preview event, to share with you. You are sure to find something you love, for someone you love, or for yourself (to show yourself some love).
BOY MEETS GIRL: The logo is obvious: boy meet girl. But will they be friends, lovers? Who knows? What I do know is that the hoodie is adorable, and the cuff is something that will attract attention (wear it to a club, bar, party…and you might just be the girl who attract…the boy!)
ROMAN AND SUNDSTONE SILVER BAR AND CRYSTAL BRACELET: don’t let the simple, braided, black cord fool you, this lovely bracelet packs a lot of fashion into one piece. Each side of the three-sided silver bar has a sentiment to remind you what life is all about : living, laughing, and loving. And each is accented with tiny crystals that sparkle every time you move your wrist. It’s lovely and affordable, actually my top pick for a “gift it to yourself” selection.
EYE OF THE SEA ROSE QUARTZ BRACELET: You might not know this, but rose quartz is the stone of “unconditional love” that is supposed to open your heart chakra to all sorts of love, be it romantic or platonic, so it’s a great choice to remind yourself to bring love into your life every day. According to creator Susan Bartholomew however, The Heart of the Sea bracelets in various semi-precious gemstones and bead colors will beckon to you, depending upon what you are seeking or need in your life. Choose one or more of these stackable bracelets to share with someone special, or just for yourself.
BLACK LACE SKIN JEWELRY: The Advice Sisters reviewed Black Lace Jewelry back in December and I admit being totally captivated by these luxurious, very elegant, high end temporary tattoos. I hate to call them that, because what they really are, is “skin jewelry.” They are stick on designs in velvet, made with glitters, Swarovski elements, silks and satins, and metallic gold and silver foil inks. All body jewels are handcrafted in the United States. They are Hypoallergenic, Self- Adhesive and Waterproof. They’re a fabulous way to make a statement without spending a fortune on truly expensive jewelry, and these will last a few days if you don’t add cream to your skin. For Valentine’s Day there is a collection with red velvet, which didn’t arrive due to bad weather issues, but take a look at the closeup of one piece I did photograph at the Accessories Council event: gorgeous, right?
MONDRINA AND BETSY JOHNSON HANDBAGS: A new handbag can lift your spirits and show your style. The fringed handbag on the right by Mondrina is super-soft and feels funky and fun. The Betsy Johnson Pushing Daisies Wallet ($58.00) on the left is from a designer who is always funky and fun (and her totes are terrific, too) . These flirty handbags remind me that Spring is coming!
KRYSTAL KODADA LIMITLESS TOTE: Creativity runs in Krystal Kodada’s blood (both her parents were in fashion…and she did some modeling…you can tell!). Now she designs fabulous handbags that editors (including me) went wild for. The one on the right is the large, limitless tote and it’s beautiful and comes in a variety of colors with outside pockets large enough to hold those new phones that definitely don’t fit inside your handbag in those small pockets (designed years back) anymore. The one on the left, however, is the perfect bag for walking around town, touring, traveling. I loved that bag with it’s chain detail and lots of pockets as well.
ALANNA BESS CUFF BRACELET: Alanna Bess’s jewelry looks good in photos, but when you see it up close and personal, it’s really good! I liked the featured Cleopatra cuff, but I thought the smaller bangle was even more interesting as it has a hinge on one side to let you slip it on your wrist, easily, but then it closes to keep the bracelet in a comfortable fit. If you’ve ever had trouble getting your hand through a bangle bracelet, you will love this feature! Of course, there are plenty of other styles of choose from in rings, pendants, earrings, etc. but I modeled these two together because I just liked the contrast of a wide cuff with a thinner bracelet.
CAROLEE HEART COLLECTION: I don’t have a good photo of the pieces (my camera phone let me down) but trust me on this, the glittery, red hearts will make yours beat faster! The pieces are not just beautiful, they’re affordable, and perfect for V-day. The string of hearts necklace and bracelet are true head turners no matter when or where you adorn yourself with them. Even better, CAROLEE is donating $5.00 of each purchase to Go Red For Women, an organization that helps build awareness and fight heart disease in women. You can only get these at Macy’s or Macys.com and they’re well worth it to make you look good, and feel even better. These make a fabulous gift idea for a special woman.
SWAROVSKI PADLOCK BANGLE: I don’t have a great photo of all the Swarovski jewelry (and sunglasses) shown at this event, but there is nothing more festive than wearing a bit (or a lot) of bling. If there’s a company that is synonymous with high quality bling that makes a heart sing, it is definitely Swarovski. One of the pieces shown at the event was this padlock bangle. Locks are meant to show love (if you visit Paris, on the Seine check out the bridge upon which lovers affix locks with their initials to show their commitment). Show your commitment with this bangle, or get it for yourself because it’s trendy and sort of “50 Shades-ish” as well.
ALSO WORTH OF NOTE: X by Trollbeads is now offering their chic rubberized bracelet links in red and pink as well as the more traditional glass bead jewelry, Jing Ai lip pencils are tote-able “Raspberry Ice is a perfect color for V-day lips,” Pico Design earrings are fun and gift-able, Robert Graham cufflinks are cute for him, but you can borrow them, Chuao Chocolatier has unusual chocolate that is sure to melt his or her heart.
