Look what we found at The Icing Stores and Online!
by advicesisters.com staff
Icing/frosting is delicious on cakes — but The Icing Stores (and their sister stores, Claire’s) are deliciously fun for shopping!
We are in love with these stores for finding accessories and beauty products that make life more glamorous (and look like they should cost much more) at ridiculously budget-friendly prices.
Mostly, advicesisters.com has reviewed accessories from Claire’s and The Icing, but we’ve found some makeup products for Spring that are so exciting, we have to share them.
So here’s a preview:
A Perfectly Portable Makeup Palette
It’s safe to say we’re dying over the Wake Up and Make Up Booklet Cosmetic Set (Item: 29026 $19.99) from The Icing.
This hot pink beauty has everything you need to do a great face look, from applicators and brushes (and a mirror) to an entire face-full of color cosmetics.
The tri-fold cardboard box opens to showcase three “pages” – eye shadows in in shimmery and matte neutrals, a pink blush, highlighter and bronzer, four pans of semi-sheer lipstick and red/pink shades, and two mini-sized lip glosses in nude and red.
The cover proclaims: “Wake Up and Make. Up” The .6 1/4″L x 7″H x 1 1/4″W .
While the 6 1/4″L x 7″H x 1 1/4″W booklet is too large for a purse, it will be your “go-to” when you travel with a tote or suitcase.
A Makeup Palette of Many Colors
For those who like to play with color, and contouring, the Expert Eye and Face Palette (Item: 23670 $24.99) from The Icing is impressive not just in size, but in scope.
One long slim 1 3/4″ x 5 5/8″H palette is actually 3 palettes in one, with three individual clear plastic covers that snap into place to keep the products clean and safe.
One part of the palette has 25 powder eyeshadows in neutral colors, the middle palette features 12 face powders from light blushes to deep bronzers and an ivory highlight.
The last part has 4 contour creams in medium to deep intensities, in warm and cool tones.
There is even a graphic on the back to help beginners blend and contour. But even if you get it wrong, you can wash it all off and try again,

At this price you can afford to experiment until you become(as the palette suggests) an expert!
Faux Nails that Last More Than an Instant
We like faux nails for those moments when your own are just not great looking, and to make a fashion statement.
However, many of the press on type just don’t stick around for long.
The Icing has Instant Nails are just $8.99 for a box of 24 nails in enough sizes to fit just about every nail type and in every type of color and style you can imagine. Nail Glue is included.
These are glue on nails (nail glue is included) so they’ll hang tough until you want to take them off.
Blue? Metallic? Mint Green? Designs? Each store (and online) will feature different patterns and colors from mild to wild. Our photo shows just three (copper, glitter and nude).
Our photo shows just three (copper, glitter nail, and natural nude).
Note: these are not press-on nails. When you’re ready to remove them, soak them off with acetone as you would with a gel manicure.
Buy Makeup Brushes, For Less
Not every person who wears makeup needs a gazillion makeup brushes, but if you want them, The Icing has a large collection.
The quality is good, especially for the price (none of the brushes are over $14.00).
We tried the ones in the photos, which include eye, concealer/foundation and powder brushes. All performed well. We now have a new favorite(see middle right), a Black & Rose Gold Dual-End Short Kabuki
A standout is the Black & Rose Gold Dual-End Short Kabuki Brush (Item: 99913 $12.99) /
It is so soft and diffuses bronzer so well (especially the colors that are just a bit too intense) it’s our new favorite.
These brushes are perhaps for travel and the budget-minded, but they’re particularly glamorous, with rose gold accents and synthetic brush hairs featuring UV coated shiny black handles.
Brush Up Your (Shakespeare), Uh…Your Makeup Brushes
If you don’t’ clean your makeup brushes the colors you apply get “muddy.” Worse, they are a magnet for dust, dirt, and germs.
What we like about it is that the 4″ rubber tool can be well cleaned itself (not so much with pads and rags) and the hot pink color cheers us as we do a boring task.
You may not be sure what to do with it, so we’re providing directions:
- 1. Run brush under water.
- 2. Apply brush shampoo to the cleaning tool.
- 3. Swirl brush on the bumpy side of the cleaning tool using the small dot section for smaller eye brushes and the long line section for larger brushes.
- 4. Rinse off brush and cleaning tool under water.
- 5. Move on to the next brush!
Buy a Great Makeup Bag
Makeup bags get dirty fairly quickly and when you want to replace them, you still want a good looking, quality bag but not a big investment.
Most of the makeup bags at The Icings are under $15 and many of them under $10 (FYI, the three piece sponge set in our photo is also under $15).
We have selected three bags from The Icing (they have plenty more) that are different sizes.
You could stash a lot of makeup brushes in the white and black glitter bag with the winking eye (other side is black with hot pink letters says: “I Tend to Lash out) at just $14.99.
There are two snap open pockets so use one for makeup, the other for brushes or other items for a nice weekend beauty bag.
The shiny black “Play Dirty” makeup bag ($12.50) is just the right size for a larger handbag or tote, The other side features a hot pink background and gold letters saying: “Look Pretty.” T
The large, square, nearly clear black striped bag is $16.50 and would hold larger makeup items for storage, or travel plus you can see what’s inside.
There is a sponge set on our photo. It’s …and to the sponge set: If you’ve ever used sponge applicators you can’t live without them for applying any kind of liquid or creme makeup.
Hair Accessories Galore to Adore at Claire’s Stores
There are so many different kinds of hair accessories at The Icing (and Claire’s) we are just going to show you a few of our favorites that will be available for Spring 2017. Each store and online will have slightly different selections:
Headbands are so trendy, and yet they’re just a nicely made as the ones your find in department stores and none of the headbands on the entire site are more than $17 and most are under $10.
The cat ears are fun for a party and the rose gold wreath can be worn “Roman style” on your forehead or as a more traditional headband (lovely for a special occasion)
The faux hair is another trend that won’t die. These color clips from Claire’s are so easy to use. press
To use them, press the clip open, slide it into your hair, and that’s the way to add a stripe of brilliant color, instantly.
When you’re ready to remove it, just press the clip again and slide it out.
This is a sensible way to wear the bright hair color trend without having to grow it out or cut it out.
The strips are very long — just about waist length, so you can cut them to suit whatever length your hair is. The same with the faux hair clips which are currently available in a slightly different style for $19.50/set of four.
This is just the tip of the proverbial tip of the iceberg for The Icing (pun not intended) and Claire’s Stores. Visit and find a budget beauty and fashion bonanza.
You can find these stores most everywhere, but if there’s not one near you, check the websites and shop at home. For The Icing visit http://www.icing.com/us/ and For Claire’s Stores visit http://www.claires.com/us/
