When the sailors in the musical, South Pacific, sang: “There is nothing like a dame,”it’s highly unlikely that their vision was anything like Dame Edna Everage. “Dame Edna” is not really a woman at all, she’s a popular character played by Australian comedian Barry Humphries. Dame Edna’s iconic look features lilac hair and huge, rhinestone-encrusted, fancy cats-eye spectacles.
Dame Edna may be no lady, but she is loved by many for her outlandish looks and sense of humor. In gloomy times, it’s easy to see why Dame Edna was chosen as the latest muse for M.A.C. Cosmetic’s post holiday makeup collection. I am a bit late with my review of this collection, but it’s in stores now, so hurry to get the limited edition items while they’re still available. Collectors will be snapping these up!
The idea of a man dressing as a woman and selling cosmetics (primarily to women) isn’t all that shocking. M.A.C. Cosmetics has embraced gender-bending spokespeople in the past, including the gorgeous Ru Paul, who looked better in high heels and a mini than many women. Dame Edna isn’t gorgeous, but you can’t help but like her…and it’s that the most important thing? This new collection is one you just can’t help but like. The packaging, like Dame Edna, is a bit over-the-top, but when you look inside, the colors are pretty and wearable, including warm shades like coral as well as pinks and reds. The packaging and the makeup for this collection feature Dame Edna’s favorite shade: lilac.
